Well, they're supposed to be reboots for the franchise are they not?

Popular does not equal good and I can say with confidence as the person here who's seen the most sci-fi that the Abrams Trek films are the worst things in the franchise.

Worse than the Star Wars Prequels. Almost on the same level of bad as the 10th and 11th Doctors of Doctor Who.

They're in that rare category of "so bad in such obvious ways" that I have to question the intelligence of anyone who likes them.

At least I would if there were any signs of intelligence from the fanbase, but I've seen them and they could be collectively beaten in a battle of wits by a rotting broccoli stalk.

I never stated anything about popularity, I'm just saying those movies are well received by people(both critics and fans), popular or not. Even poorly received movies like Twilight are popular.

Dredd 3D for example is well received but not popular at all, it flopped hard in the box office too.

You can find "well-received" in the thesaurus as a synonym for popular.

They are the same thing.

And frankly, Twilight is probably at the same quality level as the Abrams Trek films.

It can be used in different cases as there are well recieved games and movies that aren't really popular at all. What I mean is that it can get good reviews but do poorly being recognized by a lot of people.

Well Kristen Stewart is one of the worst actresses ever and there isn't anyone really worse than her for comparisons of those franchises.:P

Well-received basically means that a lot of people liked it, which is the same thing as "popular." Even if you're just looking at the critical reception it has nothing to do with whether or not something is good. Critics are just as fallible as everyone else.  And the critics who praised the Abrams Trek films are just as brainless as the other fans.

And all the actors in Star Trek were terrible. At least Kristen Stewart has the excuse that her character was intended to be a blank slate to make the wish fulfillment element easier. So, in that area, Abram's asinine version of Star Trek is worse than Twilight. Because those characters are supposed to have something to them but the script and actors failed to illustrate it in any meaningful way. Going instead with the darker and stupider, "they behave and act as the plot needs them to at the  moment" convention.

I don't always rely on critics either as I hated movies that critics praised a lot on. There are 80%+ movies that I even find to be abysmal. Not to mention some are actually trolls, yep, I read critics reviews as well.

Well... I've still yet to see it. :P The only reason I haven't seen it yet is likely due to it being too violent/gory for me.

Then I guess you don't have my type of fear/anxiety, and aren't real prone to panic attacks.

The former, yep, I only get panic attacks from other things.

As you can see, movies aren't "real" so I don't fear the violence in them despite how overly violent they get, not to mention I watch a ton of violent and gory movies.

But it is realistic and looks real and can still be intense. For some reason though its usually only movies that get to me. violent video games usually don't phase me, heck doesn't feel like real life does either... its strange. :P

I treat it like video game violence, only difference that it looks real. I've seen body decapitations, eyes, hearts, rib cages and intestines being pulled out, and yet I watch it like normal, guess I'm into that.:P
