The Nintendo 2DS was recently announced and already due to release October 12th for only $130 dollars. This handheld will play all 3DS titles, but without the 3D capabialty. The 2DS is not hinghed, making it feel more like a tablet. Link

I just sort of wonder why. I mean the 3DS is selling fine even if people aren't using the 3D feature that much. Some speculate that it's coming out for kids who want the next Pokémon who can't afford the standard model as well as if you've seen those warnings about young kids not using the 3D feature.
But still I just don't see the point of it.
I certainly agree, you're able to play the 3DS without using 3D effect. The overall design is simply trash in my opinion. Having the control pad futher up looks comfortable, and there's no sign of an additional pad. It obivisiuly appears they took little time with this.I just sort of wonder why. I think it's a good idea for children and younger users. It's not as easy to break and it is more sturdyThe_Last_Ride
These are pretty much my thoughts. The 3D is not good for young children, as displayed on every 3DS box.Â

Well everyone seems to forget that it is for kids.
Anyone who sees a 3DS game box sees the warning of not letting kids younger than 7 use the 3D and Nintendo wants to appeal to kids especially with Pokémon coming out, not to mention it's cheaper. God knows people who said they'd get a 3DS but don't like the 3D and then you mention it can be turned off to which they say "then I'm paying for something I never use." Yet there are people buying Xbox Ones who will have a hunk of plastic that will stay in the box or get thrown away aka Kinect.
The other complaint is "It can't close." Last time I checked the PSP and Vita didn't close and that didn't bother anyone.
I just don't get the Nintendo hate. If you don't like the WiiU or 2DS, don't buy it and move on with your sad pathetic life.
Any specific differences on the 2DS for kids to enjoy this version?Noteldnep
It is built more like a tablet, and it is much more sturdier than the clamshell 3DS.
