Link has made quite legacy for himself, not only within The Legend of Zelda games but his name and likeness have been seen many times outside of Hyrule. Let's take a look at some of his cameo appearences.

  • Kirby Series - When Kirby obtains the “sword” power-up, he also gains a green cap similar to Link’s.
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars - At the Inn at Rose Town, Link is sleeping.
  • Tetris (NES) - After winning a B-type game at or above level 9 with a height of at least 1, Link appears playing a flute.
  • Tetris DS - This version of Tetris features Link prominently and includes a number of Zelda-themed games.

Now there are other Legend of Zelda cameos and refernces in other games like Animal Crossing, Final Fantasy, Donkey Kong and others. However out of all of these his most notable roles are that of his inclusion in Nintendo's popular brawler, Super Smash Bros. series and Namco's highly acclaimed Soul Calibur II for the GameCube (as well as PS2 and XBOX but Link is only available in the GC version).

Soon Link will be appearing in Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii. With this brings his 4th playable inclusion in a game. Previously appearing in both the original Super Smash Bros. for the N64 and the top-selling GameCube game, Super Smash Bros. Melee. You can bet that Link will be fully equiped to kick some ass. Unfortunately, we've yet to recieve a release date for Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Till then I think it would be a great idea to take a look at the impact Link has made outside of Hyrule and give him some much needed spotlight in his roles in the Super Smash Bros. series and Soul Calibur II.
