Well, they're both really good games. If you get LA, you should get the DX version (for the color dungeon). If you get ages/seasons, i HIGHLY recommend you to pick up the other one as well at one point. it completes the story and gives you access to all sorts of goodies (of course you could get passwords from the internet to get the goodies, but still...).
LA:
Pros.
fun, challenging but not too hard, BOMB ARROWS! ^_^
cons.
The sign puzzle is annoying, maybe a bit too much on the easy side if you completed it once (also, i think there was a glitch in dungeon 3 where you can run out of keys, locking yourself out from the boss. You have to do some stupid things though).
seasons/ages
pros.
very original puzzles and bosses. great music and graphics (in GBC terms at least)
cons.
Sometimes gets repetitive. Forced trade routes. MOOSH!
I think i'd recommend Ages/Seasons over LA.
