Right after you get the ocarina you have to return books to the library. The books are inside the peoples houses. The second book you have to get a dog is blocking the way. I got the dog out of the way. I can't get into the house. It keeps on saying you can't come in. Can you help?
I was stuck here too. Go back to the library, and talk to the lady at the front desk. She will give you the title of the next overdue book. Now go back to the house, and you should be able to get in.
The first book is easy to get. Go into the house with a cat and no one is in there. Put some water in your bottle. Then put out the fire in the fire in the fire place. Once you put out the fire walk into the fire place as a minish. It will send you to the top of the roof. Talk to the girls in the house next door. After you talk to them you have to go back to the house where put out the fire. A book will be there. Push the book shelf and it will move. Then climb the ladder and you will get the first book. There is a guide here on Gamespot. Type in zelda and click on the minish cap. There will be a guide there.

you need to talk to the librarian, they tell you to go talk to the mayor, he tells you to talk to the masks on the wall, use the pegasus boots and sword to dash into the wall and knock down the masks, talk to the minish behind the last mask to figure out where to go.
I know about that. I can't figure out how to get to his cabin.

You equip the pagasus boots and ram the tree behind his cabin. Then you shrink down and walk straight down. You'll find a lily pad. Use the gust jar and you'll come to a piece of wood that leads inside. Go in and push the bookshelf I think. Then climb the ladder you just found and push the book off.
