Well Quick-Time Events are becoming noticeably more popular, and in some cases they do work in my opinion. But since we like to gather other opinions here at The Gamers Planet, I figured we needed a topic to discuss a few things Quick-Time Event related. Starting with Need For Speed: The Run. This is the first racing game to my knowledge to feature Quick-Time Events through on-foot stages. Your thoughts?

God of War is phenoemanl and we all know that scientifically speaking Heavy Rain was the best game of last year. So when used well they can be awesome. However in Need For Speed they seem forced in and not great, most of the time I dislike them a lot (especially in Resident Evil), it seems God of War and Heavy Rain are the only games I have played in which it makes the experience better.

Being a simpleton, I don't really mind whether they're in a game or not. So far they haven't ruined anything for me, and the ability to interact with cutscenses isn't a bad feeling either. In Need for Speed I'm just wondering about the whole getting out of the car thing. I mean, I suppose that would make it a tad bit more realistic in terms of you trash one car, you gotta find another, but wouldn't breaking up the racing like that become tedious?

Yeah, God of War did a great job. Haven't tried Heavy Rain, but I know the other game like it(forgive me, I can't remember the name), did a good job too.:P I like them for the most part, but sometimes they feel too forced.

First off, I'd like to disagree with Steve and say that Heavy Rain is vastly overrated. :P

And quick time events are fine as long as they aren't overused or feel contrived. If a quick time event means that I get to play a cinematic sequence and enjoy the moment without being removed from the game and place into a cutscene, I'm completely fine with that.

I don't mind them. They worked great in Heavy Rain, and also in the GoW series... don't know about FFXIII-2 ones will be any good though!

They can be fun, sometimes. But they rarely objectively improve the experience, usually becoming repetitive.

Also just remembered, MGS4 has possibly the greatest use of Quick Time Events ever. There it makes the experience in the one bit it's in.

I fully agree. It was one of those rare moments when a game realises that they can make a moment far more intense and emotional than it could be in any movie, just because of interactivity.

I perfectly neutral about it. I don't mind if they put it in a little or a lot in a game.

Well, I think something like the entire game being a quick-time event might be ridiculous in terms of "a lot".

I really wish there was a possibly way for you to play that game dad. That's the only positive thing about a PS4: The PS3 will have a price-drop... Hopefully.

Also they don't tie into the action. Cue comes up, you press it, then the dude hits you and a second later you hit him. The button should come up then, also then you proceed to pummel him like mad and no of these pummels are linked to button prompts. How can you do QTEs that wrong?

For action games it suits well not for FPS games so they should not included it in first place.

Some animations are thirty seconds or more long, but only one or two button prompts are needed. And the button prompts don't make sense. If X means, you'd expect a QTE involving jumping a gap or climbing to use X as a button prompt instead of O or R1.

He's not talking about there being QTEs, but of their implementation in the game.

Except for racing games, because then you end up with Need for Speed: The Run, which ends up looking like a cheesy Michael Bay film on steroids.

Uncharted 3 makes good use of quick-time events.

Oh, and it took me about 30 minutes in a Burnout Paradise demo until I finally found out the car could be damaged.:|
