Most Atmospheric Game

Atmosphere cannot be summed up and decided simply: It is subjective. The way a world makes you think, feel, play and live is the beauty of atmosphere: It's very essence is made just for the person experiencing the journey, and most people will have different feelings on what they experienced. Some people may hate a atmosphere you love: Others may love it just as you do. Atmosphere is one of the most unique things in story-writing: In my opinion, all stories should work really hard to build their own unique atmosphere.

Atmosphere has existed in games ever since the start: Atari had that amazing arcade atmosphere, Nintendo built their atmospheres from colour and music: Darksider uses many shades of colours and distinctive artwork to create their unique world.

So which game has your favorite atmosphere?

My favorite will probably always be Shadow of the Colossus followed by Deus Ex and Journey. I'll talk about that more later.:P

   Now hear me out, when it comes to atmosphere, I tend to notice a gaming atmosphere more if the game is really dark. For example,  Dark Souls' atmosphere was choking, stifling and palpable. I noticed it when I first turned on the game and was really slayed down by it. I supose I could say it's easier for me to like.

   However, for lighter games, it's hard for me to find and enjoy the atmosphere the game is trying to create. For example, in Oblivion it took me a while to get a good feel for the game and it's atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, I loved Oblivion.

1: Shadow of the Colossus

2: Journey

3: Deus Ex

From there it's impossible for me to list.:P

I like the atmosphere for these games but am not a huge fan of the games.

The Blinding of Isaac

There are others, just these are what come to mind right now.

The Mass Effect elevators have the best atmosphere in games!The_Last_Ride

Most atmospheric game I've ever played is Majora's Mask. The repeating three days cycle amde it so all the characters had a schedule. This, in turn, made them feel like truly real people. While many people say that a lot of games "feel alive" Majora's Mask is the only game that I can actually say feels reall inhabited by individuals, rather than simply NPCs waiting to hand out quests. There are tons of other reasons, but I'll just leave it at that. 

^That's actually really cool. Soon we'll have completely dynamic AI reacting to different days of the week, but a three day cycle is still awesome.:P

Exactly. Right now we don't have that. Like I said, there are plenty of other reasons MM is the most atmospheric, that's just a major one.

Catherine had a really good atmosphere,Every video of the game had my heart racing and having a night life at a bar,talking with people and drinking while remembering your wrong decisions really putted me on the protagonists shoesrandom991

It has a pretty messed up plot...The weird is,this plot could happen to anyone...Before the point of getting extremely messed up latter as It is on the game...

I tried it, and well... I'm not feeling too well anymore. I have a problem I'd rather not discuss, and I don't know who to talk to. I just don't know what happened, I can't remember much from it, but now I'm just hiding out, ya know? Hiding out and waiting, and trying not to fall asleep.

I really shouldn't have tried this. Next time have me try something like Wii Sports or something. This is just bad.

I like MGS's atmosphere, but it's not the best in my opinion. SotC, Journey and even Deus Ex I like more. The reason I love MGS is because of it's story.bugbag

nah i suck badly at them and i just don't like the gameplay to be honest. It's too slow and meaningless if you ask me. But i don't like zombie games either, except for Walking Dead

We'll see if it delivers with scares and not action. Here's hoping. 

@TLR So,your weakness is shooter games with slow gameplay? Or just zombie games? And is It a weaknes or you just don't fancy playing them?

i don't really like Zombie games to be honest or the undead usual horror theme with the supernatural thing. Now i get people like it, but it just doesn't float my boat just like people don't like racing, sport, rpg games like i do
