Hellow my fellow lovers of Castlevania series. Hellow newcommers to a great universe. Hellow all CUU members and all of you visiting.

In this thread we would try to give you a summary of how a game is, so either if you are a newcommer to the series, or you have played some of the games and are trying to decide which one to get next, or you just need an opinion on X game. You can come here and read or/and ask.

What would you find here??

1. Title of the game, image of cover, release year and link to info about characters and such; as well as screenshots. Image (the work of putting together all these image) and information linked on that section below to Mr P`s Realm. Also there were a couple of screenshots taken from the page of that particular game here in GameSpot. NOTE: the release date are NA, unless otherwise specified.

2. A Summary of Pro and Cons by proffessional reviewers. In here I have just read the reviews availale on two majors review sites: GameSpot and IGN and tried to put theirs opinion under a Pro or Con cathegory. I have included "The Good" and "The Bad" section of GS`s review if it was avalaible. Also I have quoted some part of the reviews. These are their opinion and the copyright below to them.

3. Link to the review of our members. Copyright to each member, I have just link the review after preview autorization.

4. Availability.

Some rare or old-school games may be found in old-school stores (some have them as new) One that I know is Videogame New York (no online store, yet. But if you call and then have it, they ship)

Search on ebay.com and Play-asia

Also remember GameStop, Toys-R-Us and other commons stores.

5. Extras.

A list with synopsis of canon and non-canon games. - Due to the recent addition of Lords of Shadow to the series, this list would be divided into: 1. "Canon" vs "Non-Cannon" according to IGA`s Timeline and 2. Canon according to COX`s Timeline. - i.e. LoS is non-canon by IGA timeline, but it is by COX, there for this game and hopefully more to come would be consider under a new COX timeline.

Ranking Average: 89.8% based on its XBox 360 Live version

Rankings. Average: 93.4%, based on its PS version

Pros and Cons based on the PS version by: GS 8.9, IGN 9.0

Pros

* RPG-like features added to the clasic Castlevania Gameplay. This deserve a quote (from GS`s review): "....different weapons and items, each of which is kept in an RPG-like inventory subscreen...Experience is gained from killing enemies; attributes are raised whenever Alucard levels-up,..special skills are learned....you can find and use numerous magic items during your quest..."

* Map system added.

* Music is great.

* Art sty.le has a Roman look. (anime-sty.le from Dracula X replaced)

* Storyline awesome (I quoted from GS`s review)

* Game is very large (to give you an idea: I, as well as others user reviews, will say it gives you around 30h of gameplay)

Cons

* Graphics are limited to 2D, exc for backgrounds (IGN`s) Thus they say: "...once you get over the shock that this is a retro-2D game, you begin to really appreciate the detail and subtleties of the graphics. They're not in-yer-face effects-laden super lens flare 3D eye-candy. Instead they're gothic, atmospheric and, when it comes down to it, perfectly suit the game.."

* Extraordinarily easy

* Has been found to be exceptionally glitchy, with maps reaching up to nearly double the normal percentage

Extras

Part of GS`s intro: "The latest installment - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for the PlayStation - is quite possibly the best 2D action side scroller ever."

Part of IGN`s closure comment: "All those things work together to create what is one of the finest 2D platforms game yet seen..."

GS 8.2 and also IGN 8.2

Pros

* Two differents character to select from, each with a different ending and some exclusive stage. Both characters with what could be a nice addition to the story. (Personal note: please know that Igarashi do not include the N64 games on the storyline of CV)

* The subweapons are back: axe, cross, knives...

* Some puzzle implemented, nothing very impressive. The game kept its plataformer roots. "There are a few other thought-provoking puzzles in the game (similar in ****to the ones found in Resident Evil), but otherwise most of the emphasis has been placed on well-timed jumps and old-school platform-clas.sic gameplaywell-timed jumps and old-school platform-clas.sic gameplay" quoted from GS`s review.

* Overall well level design, and nice graphics. Music, limited but good.

* Despict the remove of RPG SotN sty.le the games still have a few RPG and adventure elements. Including a simple items selcetion system and to be able to buy powers-up at some points during the game.

* Night/day real clock. Implemented but no as good as you would have expected (below more details)

Cons

* The RPG element of SotN was remove. The game is more linear and items that you can collect were reduced to mainly only health recovery items.

* The night/day clock function is not used as good as it should have. It also affect the strengh of enemies, being stronger during nights. (Personal Note: This was once introduced in CV2, but the for some annoying alert was remove)

* Camera. "All things considered, it's not that bad, but it does seem to get out of whack at the worst possible moments - especially in high-risk areas or during fast-paced battles" quoted from GS`s review. Also IGN pointed this problem specially while going on and off plataforms. Thus they mention the ability to "lock-on" bosses and face the enemies being on the right direction.

Extras

GS`s Closure comment: "Despite these minor gripes, Castlevania definitely excels. The developers have done a fantastic job of capturing the atmosphere and spirit of the series, while providing a well-balanced, challenging gameplay experience that's filled with pretty visuals, awesome (though limited) music, plenty of secrets, and some incredible bosses"

Part of IGN`s intro: "It's not as good as Symphony of the Night, but it's certainly one of the top third person action games on the N64."

Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness

1999, Nintendo 64.

Info here. SPOILERS

Screenshots.

Professional review.

Rankings. Average: 64%

GS 7.3 and IGN 6.8

Before I point the Pro and Cons based on the already linked reviews I should mention that now we could describe this game as a expansion of the original Castlevania for N64. This is pointed by no just GS and IGN but also on Mr. P`s Realm and would be notice/mention by most of CV fans.

I quote this from Mr P.`s realm (alredy linked above)

"When Castlevania 64 finally arrived for play on the Nintendo 64, many of its promised features were inexplicably missing. Due to those always-troubling deadlines, KCEK was forced to cut down on the number of playable characters, the number of stages, and a number of smaller details that worked to make Castlevania 64 feel like an unfinished product. Konami was prepared to remedy its miscalculation by commissioning a special edition, an upgraded version that more fit the developers' original vision. Its final form is Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness, and while upgraded in different ways, its gameplay mechanics are identical to Castlevania 64's."

IGN have a interested FACT section about this game that also point this out, and that I`ve quoted below..

The Facts

  • Same 3D engine as Castlevania 64.
  • Many of the same levels, characters, weapons and monsters from Castlevania 64.
  • Game takes place eight years before Castlevania 64.
  • Includes two new playable characters.
  • Brand new levels and storyline.
  • New weapons and three different levels of powerups for each.
  • New in-game cut-scenes and music.
  • 4MB Expansion Pak support for an optional high-resolution mode.
  • Memory Pak compatible (ie: required).

Now that this has being clear out I would move on with the Pro and Cons mention by these proffessional reviewers.

Pros

* Top quality music and sound effects.

* Addintion of 2 playable characters, each one with different objective, levels (some recycle from CV for N64) being the playtrought with Henry Oldrey the simplest and less interesting of all.

* Cinematic and cutscene are nicely presented.

Cons

* Bad camera angles, worst that with Castlevania (for N64) in some parts like with Bosses.

* Even thus some details were improve from CV for N64, the graphics overall are lacking. Even thus the 4MB axpansion pack is there to increase the resolution, the slow framerate make the game hard to play, if not impossible.

Extras

GS`s Closure comment: "Complaints aside, Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness is exactly what it sets out to be: a better version of the original. If you loved the first one, there's enough added value to justify picking this game up, even though it feels a little dated now, and its price is pretty steep. But if you're one of those people who felt that Castlevania should've never made the jump into 3D, Legacy of Darkness will do only a little more than the original in convincing you otherwise."

IGN`s Closure Comment: "Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness is better than Castlevania 64. It features a more complete quest, more characters, more levels, weapons, cut-scenes, bosses and even 4MB Expansion Pak support. It's what Konami originally intended Castlevania 64 to be. And had Legacy of Darkness been Konami's only Castlevania offering, we might have enjoyed it a lot more. As it stands though, the game comes off as a rushed regurgitation of last year's offering, adding only a handful of new levels and characters and totally ignoring all of the shortcomings that weighed down Castlevania 64. And yet we're expected to shell out $60 more? No.

Castlevania 64 was already a tad outdated when it arrived last year. Legacy of Darkness, bringing almost nothing new to the table, is downright ancient. We shouldn't be forced to accept the same game twice and this is why we've given Legacy of Darkness a considerably lower score than Castlevania 64 despite the fact that it's the more complete title.

Only recommended for those who have never played Castlevania 64."

Castlevania: Chronicles.

2001 Sony PlayStation and Sony X680000, and 2008 for PSN.

NA EU

Info here. SPOILERS

Screenshots.

Something to know about this game is that is consider a compilation/remake of the original game released in Japan. In short we could say that this is for Akumajo Dracula on X68000 PC only released in Japan, what Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles is for Rondo of Blood on the Turbo (exclusive released in JP as well). That said and because there is noone better to explain this that the creator of Mr. P`s Realm, I quoted from the link above:

".... eager to bring the Japan-exclusive titles out of the vaults and introduce them to the fans that may have missed the titles' original campaigns. It starts with Castlevania Chronicles, which is a remake and repackaging of Akumajo Dracula X68000, a game originally released for the Sharp X68000 computer system back in 1993.

Chronicles has available two modes: (1) The Regular Mode, which contains the actual X68000 game ported perfectly, with the same intro and ending sequences, the same character and level graphics, and such. And (2), as its main draw, there's the Arranged Mode, which is the superficial remake featuring spiced-up ending and intro sequences, updated sprite designs for Simon Belmont and Dracula, and some new graphical effects. It's also the proverbial "easy mode" (at least for the first five levels), whereas the original game is more difficult throughout. The objective, in either mode, remains the same: You must guide Simon Belmont through eight stages of horror, in clas.sic fashion, to reach the castle keep, where Count Dracula awaits for a duel to the death.

As a bonus, Chronicles has its own art gallery that you can unlock by clearing stages in either mode, and it includes work from Akumajo DraculaX68000 and KCET's previous Symphony of the Night. Also included on the CD is an interview with the game's director, Koji Igarashi, who hints as to what the next remake could be.

Professional review.

Rankings. Average: 74%

GS 6.1 and IGN 7.8

Pros

* Original linear gameplay. (Personal Note: for what I understood this was a Pro in IGN and a Cons in GS`s. It depends how much you like the clas.sic approach on CV games)

* Soundtrack.

* Some nice unlockables, including artwork by Ayami Kojima (thus most are old design from SotN).

Cons

* The gameplay was downgraded on the fact that the playable character has its movement extremelly limit again, which put this game one step behind Super CV 4 released 2 years before.

* Dated graphics. None of the levels were updated to take advantage of the power of the PSX

Extras

GS Closure Comment: "Hard-core Castlevania fans will definitely appreciate the return to the clas.sic gameplay sty.le but if your first encounter with Castlevania was Symphony of the Night or even some of the Super Nintendo games, you'll be disappointed by the dated graphics, static gameplay, and lack of replay value. However, its low price tag might offer enough justification for you to pick it up."

Castlevania Circle of the Moon

2001, GameBoy Advance

Info Here. SPOILERS and a thread with detailed info based on the same site in here

Screenshots.

Professional review.

Rankings. Average: 89%

GS 9.6, Editor`s Choice and IGN 9.0

Pro

* Used the SotN formula, adding a collection feature that add replay value.

* Beside the Whip, and usual subweapons adds a Magic System based on collectable cards called DSS. The lastest used to attack, defend or heal yourself. I quoted from IGN`s: Features: 80 DSS Spell Effects, 10 magic summon attacks...

* Conserve the RPG element of being able to equip armors and accesories that we saw in SotN. As well as leveling up of your character.

* Soundtrack

Cons

* Graphics, even thus a the background are impressive this feature of the game is hold bakc because of lack of animation on the the main character as well as on the enemies. Point also supported by IGN`s review, whom I quoted: "...Character sprites are very limited in animation frames, especially in the lead character --.." The game is also too dark on the already dark screen of the GBA, which was done trying to create the mood of the game.

Extras

GS`s Closure Comment: "When all is said and done, Circle of the Moon is a game that really picks up where Symphony of the Night left off and stands out as one of the best portable adventures ever created. Anyone craving an amazing 2D adventure--not just Symphony of the Night fans--would be absolutely foolish to pass on this one."

The game recieve a perfect 10 in gameplay from both reviews, I quoted the part of IGN about gameplay: "The game is incredibly deep and challenging, with tons of technique you'll have to learn and utilize throughout the adventure."

Reviews by members of CUU: no available atm.

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance

2002 GameBoy Advance and on 2006 as part of the Double Pack for GBA

Info here. SPOILERS

Screenshots.

Professional review.

Rankings. Average: 85% based on its original release

Rankings. Average: 80% based on it re-release as part of the double pack

Pros and Cons based on it original release by GS 8.2 and IGN 9.2

Pro

* The secondary weapons are back with a little extra, I quoted GS`s: "Castlevania's clas.sic secondary weapons, from.... all return here......., but now each has a unique effect when coupled with a spell book. You still can carry only one secondary weapon at a time, so while you'll only be able to choose from a few different magic attacks at any point, you'll still end up having access to a good variety of different powers."

* Keeps the "open-world" feature from SotN and CotM.

* Beautifull graphics and backgrounds.

* Over 10 hours of game play.

* A unlockable Boss Mode and a second character that become availale after you beat the game.

Cons

* The main character relies mostly on the whip, which is no a bad thing per se. But the compare to its precedor it can come a little short, due to the fact that the magic system end up as simple. I quoted GS here: "It was strange that seemingly so much effort went into the system, many of whose effects were either too subtle or more interesting than useful." (Personal Note: I know I have put the attack system in both Pro and Cons, but GS presented as so. I guess is all depends from taste and point of view. Or in how much you compared HoD with CotM)

* The battles against bosses are not much of a challenge.

* The map system could have being better. Thus in IGN`s review they stated: "The castle is absolutely massive with dozens of different areas to explore, with an "alternate dimension" version of that castle overlapping it; the game's level design is so clever that you have to traverse from one castle to the other, performing one task that will affect that area in the other castle. The secondary castle design element can get a little confusing, especially when transporting from one area to another; the only way you're going to know which castle you've appeared in is to either check your map,..."

* The music even thus decent, no as good as you would expect from a Castlevania title.

Extras

Part of GS`s intro: "Boasting better visuals and lots of gameplay, Harmony of Dissonance is not just a fine Castlevania game--it's also one of the better Game Boy Advance games to come around in a while."

Part of IGN`s Review: "It's very much like the designers looked at everything that was successful from the past 2D Castlevania games, and created an adventure using all these elements."

Part of IGN`s Closure comment: "If there's any one thing to complain about (besides the music), it's the drastic change in difficulty. Circle of the Moon was definitely a much, much harder challenge in the boss battles...almost unfairly so. The developers went back and reworked the bosses, giving them attacks that have patterns that can be avoided, dodged and countered. There are no cheap attacks in this game, other than maybe the very last boss in the adventure.

If you haven't already put this on your "must-have" list for Game Boy Advance titles, now's the time."

Rankings. Average 88% based on its original release

Rankings. Average: 80% based on it re-release as part of the double pack

Pros and Cons based on its original release by GS 8.6 and IGN 9.3

Pro

* Excellent balance in difficulty between CotM and HoS (from GS`s review) and I quoted IGN`s review: "...But where boss battles aren't troublesome, the standard array of enemies can certainly cause problems."

* Great gameplay that kept the RPG feature of SotN and CotM with a big selection of weapons, armors and accesories that can be equip and the addition of a new huge system based on the power of Souls taken from the different enemies that you would face through the game. Quoted from GS`s review: "....Basically, each time Soma strikes down a foe (of which there are more than a hundred different types), there's a chance that he will absorb that enemy's spirit and be able to use it in battle."

* Graphics is great. With smooth animation and even thus some graphics have being recycle they look more colorfull and sharp.

* Simple actions like accessing the menu inventory, map, and saving the game are more easy and faster than preview games. With the introduction of a "quick save" feature.

* Sountrack and music is an improvement over HoD and overall is great.

* Several ending plus a hidden character that become playable after you beat the game.

Cons

* The game is not as long, thus they GS did mention an 10 hours gameplay to reach final confrotation and I quoted from theirs review : "...you might be a bit disappointed to find that Dracula's castle is actually pretty straightforward and doesn't give you too much opportunity to really get the most out of all this stuff."and I quoted from IGN`s: "So, while getting through most of the castle and defeating the final boss is a short journey, it's not over until you've finished other things. And that might take you a much longer time."

Extras

Part of GS`s intro: "It's a good thing you can't truly kill Dracula. Otherwise, Konami would have to stop making these excellent Castlevania games for the Game Boy Advance. Aria of Sorrow, the third Castlevania for Nintendo's portable system, is probably the best one yet, both in terms of its gameplay and design and also in terms of its production qualities."

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence

2003, PlayStation 2

NA EU

Info here. SPOILERS

Screenshots.

Professional review.

Ranking, average: 79%

Pros and Cons based on GS 7.7 and IGN 9.0

Pro

* Gameplay even thus has its down, this does not say that the action is bad. The simple way of killing the undead with the whip do not get old. YOu would have access to the clas.sics subweapons of Castlevania universe. Also you would be able to find "orbs" to enhance your subweapons and learn some new combos with your whip.

* The addition of using health items from a "real time" menu while in battle make thing quite interesting.

* The challenge, specially from some bosses is still part of teh clas.sic castlevania series. I quote from GS`s: "...Overall, the game is challenging but not overly difficult....."

* Story, plot is quite interesting. Giving fans of the series what seems to mark the "true" beginnings of the Belmont Clan.

* Best Soundtrack since SotN.

* Graphics and animation great with a gothic atmosphere that match the music and sound perfectely.

Cons

* Level design can be simple and repetitive. Gameplay suffer a downgrade in amount/variety of items, weapons and enemies. I quote GS`s: "...on the downside, Lament of Innocence simply lacks the depth of games like Aria of Sorrow and Symphony of the Night. Unlike those games, this one has virtually no role-playing elements to speak of, the level design is particularly simple and repetitive, and, overall, the game just has less content by comparison." or as IGN`s put it: "Castlevania's other hitch is that it may be a little too big for its own good. ....., there's a ton of transitional hallways that do nothing more than serve as empty pathways from one populated room to the next. While we'll be the first to admit that breather rooms like these are definitely necessary and important to survival, there comes a point when you have to cut down on them. It's not uncommon to move through several rooms in a row with nothing to do...."

* RPG elements like learning new abilities and leveling up has being practically remove, except for some max up that you`ll find through the castle. Thus IGN put this as a "good" thing: I quote: " It's a much fresher approach to the typical RPG type level-up system found in more recent Castlevania titles and manages to accomplish three important goals at the same time: 1.) It keeps your character from leveling up and growing to powerful too quickly; 2.) It ensures that regardless of how strong your character gets you'll always continue to utilize your player skills to succeed; and 3.) It provides a legitimate reason for needing to explore the castle grounds."

* Suffers some camera control issues.

* A bit short, around 10 hours of gameplay. That said the game have a extra playable character as well as several "secrets" through the castle that would keep you exploring. As well as an unlockable "crazy" hard mode.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.

2005 on the Nintendo DS.

Info here. SPOILERS

Something to know about this game is that it is the DIRECT sequel to Aria of Sorrow on the GBA.

Screenshots.

Professional review.

Rankings. Average: 90%

Pro and Cons based on GS 8.9 and IGN 9.3

Pro:

* Follows the tried-and-true Castlevania formula. keeping the RPG-like element of SotN, where you would find armor/weapons/accesories. And new part of the "Castle" would be open once you have new abilities.

* Gameplay. Extracted from GS`s, A "open-world" system that we already saw in others great CV games like SotN, CotM and AoS. The Soul system once used in AoS is present here as well. But with an extra: you would be able to mixed the souls with weapon that way creating a new/more powerfull weapon. I quoted IGN`s who seems to agree that DoS have a great gameplay: "Though it's an adventure game in genre, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is all action, and the Nintendo DS game doesn't disappoint with a never ending onslaught of enemies with different attack patterns and strengths."

* Smooth animation and detailed backgrounds, I quoted from GS: "The backgrounds are intricate and gorgeous, with layer upon layer of fine detail and some interesting pseudo-3D effects. The character sprites range in size from tiny to massive, and some creatures fill the entire screen.....Even the enemies that you've seen before have been updated to look and behave much more lifelike....Although the character sprites still retain the faceless Konami look, they are quite detailed. For instance, when Soma is outside in a snowy village area, you can see his breath puff out into the cold air as he breathes..."

* Excellent music. I quoted IGN`s "Fantastic use of the DS hardware for the audio -- impressive music compositions and some really cool stereo effects used throughout the adventure."

* Wide variety of bosses and enemies to keep you busy.

* Unlockable playable character and a Boss Rush Mode. As well as multiple endings.

Cons:

* Doesn't do much to distinguish itself from previous Castlevania games.

* Touch-screen controls are more cumbersome than they are enjoyable. A point express by GS`s and supported by IGN where reads: "The touch screen elements created for the game aren't entirely creative, though there are some cool ideas in place: the best element, the ability to hack at ice walls to create platforms and staircases, isn't used nearly enough in the level design. The more prominent touch screen control comes in the form of "seal drawing" to banish boss characters after defeating them -- as unique as this feature is, it's not all that necessary and actually makes boss fighting, especially towards the end, a little unfair if your penmanship sucks."

Extras:

Part of GS`s review: "Dawn of Sorrow is fairly easy as far as Castlevania games go, but the challenge here lies in collecting all the souls and opening up every nook and cranny in the castle rather than merely staying alive. You can beat the game in less than five hours if you know what you're doing, but you'll miss a whole lot of the game if you do that. And even after you beat the game you'll want to keep playing for the extras."

Part of GS`s closure comment: "The bottom line is: Whether you're familiar with the series or not, you can't go wrong with Dawn of Sorrow."

Part of IGN`s intro: "Though the Nintendo DS is clearly far more capable in its hardware power to drive a more contemporary 3D design, the development team stuck to the game's roots on the handheld and have produced the best portable Castlevania game to date." (review written on October, 2005)

Professional reviews.

Rankings. Average 70% based on its ps2 version

Rankings. Average 73% based on its xbox version

Pro and Cons based on the reviews by GS 6.8 and IGN 7.8 of its ps2 version.

Xbox version: GS 6.7 and IGN 7.8

Note that GS reviews of each version reads the same, If I have failed to notice any difference pointed out between the two reviews please let me know. Thx.

Pro:

* Combat looks pretty good and controls well--lots of weapons to choose from. Togetther with the new "Innocence Devil" system give the player a nice combat experience where you need to summon the better companion for each moment. this aids the game considering you`ll spend most of your time in combat. I quoted from GS`s: "Overall, the combat is fast and responsive, though the lock-on targeting system is wonky, forcing the camera perspective to do crazy things...." And I quoted from IGN`s: "What makes them cool though is their general use throughout the game. As you can only have one summoned at a time, there's a cool bit of management going on with what abilities you want available to you at any given time, coupled with which Innocent Devil you'd like to feed experience to..."

* The new crafting and stealing mechanics are fun and well designed. I quoted from GS`s: "..though in practice, the crafting system is functionally the same as just finding new weapons and armor. Still, the ability to combine weapons with new materials to make even stronger weapons is pretty satisfying, and having to make tough calls about how to apply your best materials is interesting...."

* Excellent music and some great voice acting.

* Story presentation. From IGN`s: "Odd yet very well told story, with great CG cutscenes and great voice acting there in."

* Map design/used is very good. I quoted IGN`s: "Luckily the map is very good, allowing you to place markers for important places so that you can remember where critical spots are, and save and warp spots are nicely highlighted,...

Cons:

* Monotonous, boring level design. From GS`s: "Curse of Darkness doesn't take place just in a labyrinthine Dracula's castle; it takes place all around Valachia, so you'll venture through swamps, mountains, valleys, temples, and much more......Unfortunately, the world of Valachia is terribly bland. All the different environments are little more than just window dressing..." A desing that could get you lost very easy, if it not were because a map done really well. I quoted from IGN`s: "It's simply copy-and-pasted hallway after hallway or wooded area after wooded area."

* Monotonous, boring enemy design.

* Visuals are technically smooth but artistically bland.

* Too easy most of the way through. I quoted GS`s: "You'll probably even beat most of the bosses on your first try...that is, until you start nearing the end of the game, when, all of a sudden, it turns hard."

Extras:

Part of GS`s closure comment: "Curse of Darkness failed to improve on the most serious problem of its PlayStation 2 predecessor, which was that it suffered from the same sort of completely bland level design on display throughout this game."

IGN`s Closure comment: "Castlevania: Curse of Darkness isn't the most memorable game in the longstanding franchise, but it's a solid one. Its nicely implemented Innocent Devil scheme and its varied, and useful, assortment of weapons are great, but its environments are lackluster. The story presentation is well done, and though it can seem quite odd at times, it does a pretty good job of holding the game together, even if you're just running down random hallway X and slaughtering enemies left and right. In the end, Curse of Darkness will be a fun and enjoyable play through for fans of the series, but those who require as much variety in their settings as they do their battles may want to give this one a rental."

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin.

2006, Nintendo DS

Info here. SPOILERS

Screenshots.

Proffessional review.

Rankings. Average: 85%

Pro and Cons based on the reviews by GS 8.3 and IGN 8.9

Pro:

* Team mechanic puts a new twist on the familiar Castlevania formula. The formula presented on the recent Castlevania games with the addition of a complementary-duo system. Changing and playing among the two characters is easy and fast. I quoted from GS: "You can switch characters at any time by pressing the X button, and you can also call your character using the A button to help you do battle, push an object, or stand on a switch.... Each character has unique special skills..." Thus GS`s reviewer points out a flaw on this aspect, which I quoted: "The only problem is that the game isn't always designed to take advantage of the team dynamic..." Supported by IGN`s: "The amount of times the two characters will need to partner together can be counted on two hands, and for a game with maps as huge as Portrait of Ruin it's hard not to be let down by the lack of them."

* The addition of side quests. I quoted from IGN: "Most tasks are pretty straightforward,... But some are actually demanding and require a little thought."

* Tons of weapons, items, and secrets to find. As well as Magic Spells.

* Huge "castle" to explore. I quoted from IGN`s: "...the game's significantly larger in size and length than any past 2D Castlevania to date."

* A handful of fantastic boss battles. From GS`s: "...the game really shines in its boss battles.....There are a few weak boss battles that you'll quickly forget, but the majority of them are very fun and quite challenging"

* Excellent music. Thus IGN`s reads: "And the soundtrack, while not as memorable as some Castlevania ****c compositions, definitely gets the necessary focus with upbeat and creepy tunes accompanying the action."

* Great-looking environments, character designs, and animations.

* Differents endings, unlockable characters and extra mode to play.

Cons:

* Level design is slightly dull compared to previous Castlevania games. I quoted from GS`s: "....it feels like a bunch of template pieces that have been connected in the simplest way possible to form one long, often-looping pathway....Instead of remembering an area for its unique design or **** you'll remember it for the enemies that you fight there."

* There are only three short levels available for co-op play.

Extras:

Part of GS clocure comment: "It may be more of the same, but nevertheless Portrait of Ruin succeeds in rekindling old flames for Castlevania veterans and sparking new ones for people who are just looking for a great 2D action adventure game."

Castlevania: Order of Shadows.

Info here. SPOILERS

Konamimobile.com To check the game. (Thx OmegaAce)

Professional Reviews.

Rankings. Average 30% Please not that for some reason only 1up review is consider here.

Pro and Cons based on the review by IGN 6.7

Pro.

* Even thus few, you would have some learning through the game. "As you progress through the game, you unlock a few abilities that allow you to..."

* Alchemist System. IGN`s: "....This new spell-based device allows players to pick up scrolls throughout the castle and use them as one-shot attacks or stat upgrades..Sadly, most alchemy hits your enemies with fairly light damage, as if you were throwing a cotton ball their way. It's just better to use a whip with clas.sic secondary attacks like the cross.."

Cons.

* Plot is simple. I quoted IGN`s: "The story is presented rather tepidly, so it doesn't have much impact aside from setting up the showdown with Dracula himself."

* Gameplay is basic and can be frustated. "Though the slower-paced game play could baffle newer players, gamers that marched into Dracula's castle with Simon Belmont twenty years ago will feel at home."

* Gameplay is linear. "Exploration has always been a huge part of Castlevania. This entry is extremely linear. There is no map (and no need for a map), making the game feel like a step backwards. What's a Castlevania game without finding hidden areas or bosses?" (Personal Note: IGN have put this as bad, but if you are looking for a old-school gameplay, this can be good for you.)

* Glitches. I quoted from IGN: "...Basic collision detection with enemies felt a bit off. Main character was injured when he wasn't touching anyone, or an enemy avoided damage despite the fact that a weapon clearly made contact."

Extras.

IGN`s closure comment: "Castlevania: Order of Shadows is a decent entry in the series, but we just weren't wowed. The game play is a bit slower than we preferred, it still provides a modest escape, if just for a short while. In the past decade, the Castlevania series has championed replay value, but when we were done with this game, there really wasn't much else to do, and that's a disappointment. There are still a few kinks to work out, but hopefully Konami can learn what works and what doesn't so next time out, we get something a bit more dynamic."

Info here. SPOILERS

Something to know about this game is that as stated above, Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles is a compilation that includes a remake of the original Dracula X: Chi no Rondo - Castlevania: Rondo of Blood - as well as the original version and the clas.sic of PSX Symphony of the Night. Professional Reviews.

Rankings. Average 81%

Pros and Cons based on reviews by GS 8.0 and IGN 8.0

Pro.

* An English version of Rondo of Blood, plus the original 2D Rondo and an improve Symphony of the Night. which will give you hours of old-school side-scrolling fun.

* Rondo remake boasts 3D graphics, new audio, and other enhancements. The graphics on the original RoB are average, quoted from GS`s: "The 2D graphics in the original game are nothing special, even by 1993 standards, but the backgrounds are sufficiently detailed, and certain enemies are positively mammoth..."

* Gameplay, putting the difficulty aside GS as well as IGN seems to indicate that the gameplay is pretty good. You have 2 characters to choose from, each with different abilities and stats. As well as would go true great bosses battles. From GS`s: "However, the payoff for memorizing each level back to front is that you get to see some truly inspired level designs and participate in one memorable boss fight after another..." " The Choose Your Own Adventure-Clas.sic level progression and the forgiving save system also help take some of the edge off....many of those levels offer branching paths and optional areas to explore, and those optional areas often lead to different bosses or alternate levels that replace the ones you'd normally visit by following the linear path..." From IGN`s: "One of the cool things about Rondo of Blood is the branching level design..."

* Have some Co-op. From IGN`s: "If you have two copies of the game, you can even face Rondo of Blood's boss fights cooperatively with a friend over ad hoc, which definitely adds some spice to this deal"

Cons.

* Gameplay: Rondo's difficulty and steep learning curve aren't for everyone. And this can be point out where GS`s review reads: " Rondo's old-school sensibilities are obvious..." and from IGN`s: "You could clear massive amounts of space and even pass into different sections of the stage, but sometimes death will set you back all the way to the beginning, even though it may seem like a later checkpoint would have been more natural." and "Very hard. If you think you can handle the old-school mentality that could crush casual gamers, the mechanics are relatively fun and satisfying."

* Some parts of the original RoB were not subtitle. From IGN`s: "Although the remastered title offers a Japanese language track, not all of the scenes are subtitled, which means you're out of luck if you don't know Japanese...even though most of the scenes without subtitles are brief and inconsequential to the story, it still felt like we were missing out."

* Kept some of the old-school "problems". From GS`s: "....walks at a decent pace, but he practically crawls up and down stairs, and you have to push up on the control pad just to get him to ascend them. Otherwise, you'll fall right through. He also gets knocked back when hit by an enemy, which, coupled with the stair thing, means you'll endure plenty of cheap hits..." from IGN`s: "For one thing, jumping can be a huge problem. Some of the jumps, even when timed precisely, can still plunge you to your death.....If you jump when on a stairwell, you have to continue to hold up on the directional pad when you land, or else you'll fall through the stairs, which often results (once again) in death."

* The other two games are locked until you find certain items in the remake.

Extras.

* SotN was posted above but here I would quoted part of GS`s about the improvement on this version of the game: "For the rendition of Symphony of the Night that's included on this disc, Konami fixed a few trivial bugs and added Maria to the list of playable characters. They also came up with a new script translation and recorded new voice dialogue to replace the literally translated, stiffly delivered lines that plagued the original game. As intended, the new script reads more naturally, and the new cast of voice actors manages to deliver their lines smoothly and with appropriate inflection. If you've already played through the game before, you'll want to play through it again here just to see how much better the experience is when the dialogue doesn't seem so wooden."

SPOILER WARNING.

*****************************************************************************************************

Red: games release. Orange: game confirmed, not yet release. Blue: unrelease, unconfirmed games. Story here is mostly based on others games or others CV related release.

Canon Games.

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence: 1094 AD

Leon Belmont, a elite soldier and co leader of a company of soldier, along with his close friend Mathias Cronqvist, has been battling monsters for an extended period of time, while Mathias remains bedridden, sick with grief from the loss of his beloved Wife, Elizabetha. Mathias, struggling from his bed, informs Leon that his beloved fiance, Sarah, has been kidnapped by the evil vampire Walter Bernhard. Leon immediatly sets out, abandoning everything he had in life, even his sword. He encounters an alchemist living near Walter's castle, named Rinaldo Gandalfi. He grants Leon the powerful Whip of Alchemy.

Leon must battle his way through Walter's deadly castle to save his fiance, in a visually beautiful story of love, courage - and betrayal. This is the first game in the timeline, and, as you play, will reveal the full story of why the Belmonts must eternally hunt Dracula, and just what the Vampire Killer Whip truely is.

Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse: 1476 AD

Notes: First ever Death, setting the first point for his natural ressurections.

Dracula arrives on scene nearly 300 years after LoI, believing the Belmonts to be dead. It was to his great suprise, then, when Trevor Belmont arrived, and began to battle his forces all over Walachia, gaining several key allies, Syphia Belnades, a witch, Grant Denasty, a pirate, and Alucard, a mysterious vampire.

Together, they must travel all throughout Walachia, and eventually challenge the prince of darkness himself. Although victorious, a horrible, evil curse would spread throughout the continent...

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness: 1479 AD

Prior Trevor and Co.'s victory, Devil Forgemaster Hector betrayed Dracula, and fellow Forgemaster Issac blamed him for his masters fall, and lured him back to Walachia by arranging for his wife to be killed as a witch. Hector, enraged beyond belief, reaccepted his dark powers, and hunted down issac, meeting a french monk called Zead, A witch named Julia, a mysterious time traveller named St. Germain, and Trevor Belmont himself. Through a series of battles, he challenges Issac for a final battle, which, as it would be, was nothing more than a trap, meant to kill Hector himself.

Castlevania: Adventure: 1576 AD

Notes: First ever natural ressurrection after 100 years

Dracula rose again, believing his curse had worked and the Belmonts no more (remember, he never actually encountered Trevor in CoD), was quickly challenged by the suprisingly powerful Christopher Belmont. *Taken completely by suprise, he fled the battle, and hid, laying in wait for the right moment.*

Castlevania II: Belmonts Revenge: 1591 AD

Notes: 2nd death after a natural ressurrection. 100 years before a natural return.

On the eve of the passing of the whip to his son, Soilyu, Christopher was horrified to discover his son gone. When 4 strange castles rose out of nowhere, he grabbed his whip, and charged off at them. He discovered his, possessed by dracual, and in a series of powerful battles, finally killed The Dark Prince.

Castlevania I: 1691 AD

Notes: 100 years have past, 2nd natural ressurection and 3rd Death.

In his first ever natural ressurection, Dracula prepared to take down the Belmonts once and for all. Simon Belmont, legendary for his skill and strength, arrived on scene, and quickly destroyed him, unaware of any plots.

Castlevania II: Simons Quest: 1698

Simon had begun to feel sick and weak, and on the word of a soothsayer, discovered that Dracula had cursed him. He must travel throughout Romania, locate all of Dracula's parts, and burn them in his castle, lest he die of the curse and end the Belmont linage forever. He successfully located every part, brought them all to the castle, and burned them. However, a mysterious 6th piece appeared, reviving the count, just as planeed. Simon once again faced down the King of Evil.

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance: 1748

Juste Belmont, grandson of Simon, arrived at a castle with his injured friend, Maxim. He had informed Juste that their childhood friend, Lydie, had been kidnapped and brought here. Travelling through the castle, Juste slowly unravelled the truth: The castle was created by a possessed Maxim, Lydie had been brought here by him. Through a series of battles, Juste killed Maxim, and saved Lydie*

*It should be noted that this ending, while not the "best" ending, is widely considered the canon ending. the "best" ending consists of Juste freeing Maxim from Dracula, and defeating Dracula, saving both of his friends. But is considered to be cliche.

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood: 1792

Notes: Revived in 1791 (3rd natural revival, 4th death), was alive for a year before killed

Dracula again rose from the grave, and ordered a full out assault on the town of Aljiba, to both kill Richter Belmont and to capture women from around the town. Richter survives the attack, and sets out to save the women. Teaming up with the magical girl Maria Renarde, they save all the women, kill the dark Priest Shaft, responsible for Dracula's Ressurection, and defeat Dracula once more.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night: 1797

4 years later, Richter vanished. Maria set out to find him, and discovered Dracula's Castle. However, the Greater Forces felt the imbalance, and awoke Alucard from his slumber, the same Alucard who fought with Trevor Belmont. He entered the Castle, alone, and battled his way through. He encountered Maria there, and later informed her that Richter was now one with the foe. Horrified by this, she fled further into the Castle. Deep in the castle, he encountered her again, who, after battling him to test his power, granted him the Holy Glasses, allowing him to see past curses. Using them, he freed Richter from an ethreal Shaft, and continued into the "Inverted" Castle. In there, he faced off with many of Shafts challenges, including his 3 friends from 400 years past, and finally destroyed Shaft, and had a final Showdown with his Father, Dracula.

There are now two real endings:

1: Upon exiting the ruined castle, Alucard speaks to Maria and Richter, explaining that his bloodline is too dangerous, and he intends to remove it from the world. He leaves, and Maria/Richter leave.

2: Upon exiting the ruined castle, Alucard speaks to Maria and Richter, explaining that his bloodline is too dangerous, and he intends to remove it from the world. He leaves, and Maria, with Richters blessing, follows him, and successfully convinces him to stop.

It is also here that the last Belmont would weild the whip for almost 200 years. This has only ever been explained as "It is prophecised that they may not touch the whip".

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia: 18??

With the Belmonts M.I.A., humans with magical abilities began to look for ways to destroy Dracula. A powerful, but unnamed organization seized control of Draculas remains (in the form of a large coffin) and eventually gave it to the most promising of the groups, the Order of Ecclesia. Ecclesia, led by Barlowe, had two tools, Albus, a young genius with magical abilities and a skilled sharp shooter, and Shanoa, a powerful witch who posessed the ability to absorb Glyphs, literally the magical essence of nature. Barlowe developed a way to destroy Dracula, in the form of the Glyph Trio Dominus, with the aid of Albus. However, though he promised Albus the glyphs, he lied, and attempted to give them to Shanoa. Enraged, Albus stole the glyphs, and as a side effect, Shanoa lost her memories and emotions.

As time went on, she began to regain her powers. Shanoa sought out Albus, and in a series of encounters, re-obtained Dominus Hatred and Anger. However, she also began to learn the truth, that Dominus was the very essence of Dracula himself. As she traveled, searching for him, she found he was kidnapping Villagers and stealing their blood for reasons unknown. When she at last confronted him, he absorbed Dominus Agony (a feat thought exclusive to Shanoa, however, his research and use of the Belmont Clans blood lead him to gain this power. As it would be, the villagers are all of Belmont Blood) and was promptly posessed by Dracula. When she confronted Albus, it is more like she actually battled Dracula in Albus, and killed both. Upon absorbing Dominus Agony (and thus, completing the Trio), she regained Albus' memories and began to regain her emotions. During the ensuing scene, she regains sorrow and anger as emotions (although this is never actually stated, rather infered)

Albus tells her that Dominus was originally to be his, and that it was to protect her, as it would require the soul of the weilder to use in its full extent. He makes her promise to never use Dominus, and she agrees. When she confronted Barlowe, he reveals that Dominus was created to be nothing more than an elaborate method of gaining the needed human sacrifice to break the seal on Dracula. Barlowe sacrifices himself, and Shanoa realizes she alone must destroy Dracula. She does so, and is forced to use Dominus, lest she be killed needlessly. Albus reveals he is still trapped within Dominus, and he allows himself to die. However, Shanoa regains joy here, as Albus begs her to smile for him, one last time, which she does.

At this point, Ecclesia and the events at this time are lost forever to the ages. Shanoa remains an unsung hero, and the secrets of Dominus were hopefully lost forever. This game does show that Dracula is weak to an overload of his own power, but doesn't much answer any questions. Just what happened to the Belmonts? And who are all these villager belmonts?

Brahm Stokers Dracula: 1897*

Notes: Dracula revived in 1892, and stayed alive for 5 years (something of a record for him), he now revives on years ending in 97

Dracula rose again, and had Johanthan Harker captive. In a series of battles, Quincy Morris and Harker defeated Dracula. Unfortunately, Quincy Morris was killed. All were unaware that Quincy's son, John and his friend, Eric Lecarde witnessed the whole ordeal. While this is a canon incident, it is not explained how a two year old travelled across Romania.

Also, Eric Lecarde remains a point of interest. His last name appears to be a mix of Alucard and Rendarde, giving evidence that Eric is Alucards Grandson, meaning that Maria successfully stopped Alucard, despite his wishes to never continue the bloodline.

* Please note that this game was not made by konami, but the 1987 reference was made in the poster-timeline that was released with the limited edtion of PoR.

Castlevania: Bloodlines: 1917

John had inherited the Vampire Killer whip, and with Eric, seek out Dracula. They are unaware that the entire time they are travelling across europe, they are being led off the trail by Dracula's Niece, Elizabeth Bartley. They finally defeat her, and, with out warning, must battle against Dracula.

This game came out of nowhere, and was expected to be removed from the timeline by IGA. However, he instead canonized it, and even created a sequel, much to the debate of many fans. What happened to the Belmonts? How did the Morris' get the whip? How did Eric manage to get Alucards spear? None of these questions have, as of yet, been satisfactoraly answered.

Note: Alucard confirms in Judgment that he gave the Lecarde family the spear to act as a helper to the whip, much to young erics displeasure.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin: 1944

In the midst of World War 2, Dracula's castle has risen. Vincent Dorin, dispatched by the church, encounters the two protagonists, Johnathan Morris, and Charlotte Aulin. Johnathan, although he posessed the VK whip, cannot use it. Inside the Castle, they encounter first the Ghost of Eric Lecarde, who explains that the Castle is now posessed by the Vampire Artist Brauner and his two daughters, Stella and Loretta. It is later explained that Stella and Loretta are Eric's daughters, stolen by Brauner after the loss of his daughters. Upon freeing the daughters, they explain that they can unlock the full power of the whip. Johnathan accepts, and, weilding the full power, defeats Brauner and later, Dracula.

Some of the questions are now answered. The Lecardes are needed to unlock the Vampire Killer whip's full power, for anyone but the Belmonts. It is also now explained that for anyone but a Belmont, using the whip requires a part of their soul. John Morris apparently used too much of the whip, and died with out telling Johnathan how to use it.

One Thousand years later: 1994

Lament of Innocence ended 1000 years ago, the war has now reached the quadruple digits.

Dracula's Final Revival: 1997

As we all know, Dracula naturally revives every 100 years. His last natural revival had to have been in 1892 (as he was reborn naturally in 1792 and killed in 1792, non-natural ressurections have no effect on the 100 year cycle), and he was alive until 1897, when Morris killed him. Therefore, Dracula was alive and well for two years prior to Demon Castle Wars, meaning that either the Belmonts were MIA until exactly 1999 (which is very possible), or the war was ongoing for two years (also very possible). We'll find out eventually.

Demon Castle Wars: 1999

Julius Belmont, teamed up with unnamed warriors, Challenged Dracula once more. However, because it coincided with the Solar Ecclipse, Genya Arikado, AKA Alucard, arranged that members of the Hakuba Shrine be used to seal Dracula's Castle forever within the Ecclipse. Once he was defeated, he would be seperated forever from his castle, thus ending the regeneration cycle forever. Julius successfully defeats dracula, sealing his whip within the castle to further weaken it, but loses his memory.

This game is also as of yet, unreleased. There are, however, many new questions. Where did Alucard come from, and why is he "Genya Arikado"? Where did Julius come frome, and where did he get the whip?

Update: Judgment confirms that while Julius may have laid the killer blow onto Dracula, it would be Alucard who performs the ritual to seperate the Castle from Dracula.

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow: 2035

Soma Cruz, japanese exchange student, along with his childhood friend Mina Hakuba, were drawn into the Castle during an ecclipse. In there, Soma discovered his power to absorb monsters souls. With the aid of Hammer, Genya, Yoko Belnades and Julius, he defeats self proclaimed Dark Lord Graham Jones, only to discover that He, Soma, is Dracula. With only a limited time left, he races to defeat the Dracula's Power, manifesting itself in the powerful and dangerous Chaos. Upon victory, he escapes the castle, along with everyone else.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow: 2036

Celia Fortner, inspired by Graham Jones, locates two other Dark Lord candidates, Dimitrii Blinov and Dario Bossi, and attempts to kill Soma in order to make on of them into the Dark Lord. He successfully defeats both Candidates, when Celia attempts to make him into the Dark Lord. The game then splits into two paths, to which fans still debate

1: Celia's plot is exposed by Genya, and Soma is saved. However, Dimitrii's soul has been residing in Soma, escapes and enters the doppleganger, now with the Power of Dominance. He gains dominance over many demons, kills Celia, and then succumbs to the power, spawning the massive Menace. Soma defeats the Menace, and escapes alive.

2: Celia succeeds, by killing a Mina Doppleganger. Soma kills her, and then become Dracula incarnate. Julius, Alucard, and Yoko then team up, and defeat Soma.

Non Canon games.

Look down. Down I say! Down!

SPOILER WARNING.

*****************************************************************************************************

Red: games release. Orange: game confirmed, not yet release. Blue: unrelease, unconfirmed games. Story here is mostly based on others games or others CV related release.

Non-Canon Games.

Castlevania: Legends: 1450

Sonia Belmont is enjoying life, what with being someone who would normally be burned at stake for witchcraft but instead is pretty much left alone. Dracula rises, and she goes out to stop him. On the way, she encounters Alucard, who wants to defeat his father. Through a series of battles, he decides that she is worthy to do the job for him. She continues on, collecting the future Holy Subweapons, and defeats Dracula. She then is revealed to have given birth to a baby, widely believed to be Alucards son, and also believed to be Trevor.

It should be noted that this is the only non-canon game to not become a "Gaiden" game, mainly because, well, the story kills the rest of the storyline.

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon: 1830

Awakened by unknown means, Carmilla seeks out her master, Dracula, and successfully revives him, albiet weaker than usual. Morris Baldwin, Hugh Baldwin and Nathan Grave rush in to stop him. Dracula remembers Morris, and takes him, dropping the two "children" into the bottom of the castle. Nathan sets out after Hugh, who later is revealed to be posessed by Dracula. Nathan saves him, then defeats Dracula, who teleports into another realm, seeking his true power. Hugh enters to save his father, and Nathan defeats Dracula's final form.

This game created much controversy. Not only did it create the Baldwin and the Graves family, both of whom are no longer canon, but it raised the question of what happened to the Belmonts, and why all these people have the whip. Since then, it has been explained that Nathan weilded the "Hunter" whip, instead of the VK. It is now hoped that there will be a re-release of the game, changing last names to Morris. This is a "Gaiden" game in the timeline.

Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness: 1844

A partially revived Dracula wakes up, and seeks a sacrifice for true power. He kidnaps children from all over the land, looking for a suitable one. When his sister Ada is kidnapped, Cornell sets out to find her, with his ability to transform into a wolf at will aiding him. He tracks her down, and successfully defeats a weakened Dracula, but is forced to separate his Wolf form from himself and use it to save Ada. This turns out to have been the whole plan, as his power is greater than any of a child.

This game is the "expanded" version of Castlevania 64, detailed below. It is infamous for its bad gameplay, and overall bad design, however, it has been re-added into the timeline as a "Gaiden" game.

Castlevania 64: 1852

Reinhart Schneider and Carie Fernandez set out to find more missing children, eventually discovering the demon castle's connection. They set out and destroy Dracula, while overlooking the missing kids. Fortunately, Henry, a child in LoD that you save from a chainsaw weilding Frankenstein, sets out in a suit of armor and a shotgun, and saves the children.

The game was the original N64 CV game, however, it was renown for its incomplete feeling. Even worse, when LoD was released the same year, people complained that CV64 should never have happened, and LoD should have been what they got first. It too, has become a "Gaiden" game.

Castlevania: Judgment: "Time Rift"

Enter Aeon, a man with a huge clock. A time traveller, and leader of the "Order of Time", he seeks out the 13 soul keys, and choses to gain them by dragging the following into a time rift: Dracula, Alucard, Simon, Carmilla, Cornell, Grant, Maria, Trevor, A Golem, Eric, Death, Shanoa and Sypha. After gaining all the keys, they all must battle Aeon, in their own individual storys, so that one of them may challenge the Time Reaper (more on that later). Because this game takes place in (literally) an alternate universe, it may very well be a "sub-canon" game, one that is sort of canon. Regardless, though, it does give details to canon events.

The Time Reaper is a servant of Galamoth, who looks to destroy time in the Castlevania world in order to take the throne of the Lord of Darkness. Because this would disrupt time, Aeon himself goes into the universe to put a stop to this. It should be noted that St. Germain is presumably a member of this "Order of Time". As far as we can tell, the Aeon storyline is the canon one.

THE NEW CANON

Due to the arrival of Lords of Shadow, we may very well be seeing a brand new timeline for the series. Therefore, all games listed after this are part of the Cox timeline, while all previous games are part of the IGA timeline. Any overlapping games will be mentioned.

1047: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Gabriel Belmont seeks to revive his murder wife, who exists in a limbo between this world and the after life, via an Ancient and Powerful Mask. He is also a member of the "Brotherhood of Light", who seeks to bring peace to the world. Gabriel must defeat the Three Lords of Shadows, and other story stuff is unknown
