The question is rather, ''Do you think there will be a modern atheist president, who wishes to publicly reveal his or her lack of belief?'' :wink:
Yes. I personally think Obama is in the closet in terms of religion.The question is rather, ''Do you think there will be a modern atheist president, who wishes to publicly reveal his or her lack of belief?'' :wink:

[QUOTE="Genetic_Code"]If I were to run for atheist, I wouldn't mention my presidency. :Phelium_flash...what? :?
I was going to type out this long response, but I was so tongue tied (mentally) that I decided that was the only thing I could type.
I was going to say that any atheist running for President simply shouldn't make their atheism public. Unlike Barack Obama for instance, where promoting his diversity is somehow viewed as a good attribute.Â
don't you think people overreact and act dramatic?Teenaged
Definitely. Just wait 'till he does something to piss them off; then they'll be changing their tune. ;)
Back on topic though, I think some day we may have one. But not real soon, because as btaylor mentioned above, it's unfortunately become a big part of the political system.Â
Would an Atheist president have to have a pastor give a prayer? Or is that optional?helium_flash
Its optional just like you dont have to use a bible to take the oath
H_F I believe that is optional. But it's never really come up so who knows. Once the religious right gets out of politics, they see what it got them the last 8 years, let that happen again and they'll move on to a 3rd party, anything is possible. As much as I wanted it, I wouldn't have bet a cent on Obama being elected 18 months ago.btaylor2404Do you think that Obama is secretly an Atheist? I was told that he dabbled in Atheism when he was young. And if it is true... I have a hard time believe you can go from Atheism to sitting in a church every Sunday for 20 years believing everything that guys is speaking.
