I am a rusher/flanker type of player that uses split second strategies to get the objective done quickly. That said, I prefer SMG's. This is a list of guns found in a lot of shooters that I use regularly.

1. Probably going to have to go with the MP5

2. MP7

3. P90

4. Something similar to a KRISS Vector which many games use

5. Although I like most close range guns I reserve this slot for just about anything since I like to use the kitchen sink to screw with people.. lol.

Now if we are talking categories I'd say

1. SMG's

2. AR's/LMG's

3. Melee's

4. Bows/Crossbows/other 1 hit kill skill weapons like the harpoon gun from Battlefield hardline etc.

5. Sniping

Heck yeah, I love playing tanker in Battlefield:

G36C and MP5 are mighty fine weapons

A lot of good choices here already.

But I will add:

The shotgun from the original F.E.A.R. (still my favorite shotgun to this day. It had so much oomph).

The Laptop Gun from Perfect Dark (both a decent assault rifle and a wonderful trap in multiplayer)

The flare guns from TimeSplitters: Future Perfect.

Idk about top 5, but my all time favourite weapon is the Lancer in Gears of War, satisfying to shoot, great at close and mid range, and being able to melee enemies with a chainsaw is just awesome.
