VAMPIRES THE MASQUERADE BLOODLINES (PC).
Cant wait for VTMB 2.
Well?
The game that got me into RPGs,
Chrono Trigger. My no1 rpg of all time and my second most favorite game ever.
Zelda II - The adventure of Link. This was for the 8-bit NES and a lot of people didn't like it because it played very different than the original great Zelda. I loved the original Zelda but this one I just really spent a lot of time playing and loved it. A lot of this is nostalgia but this is my favorite RPG of all time.
Another old RPG that I don't hear mention lately but was great for it's time is Cosmic Fantasy 2 for the TurboGrafx-16 CD.
Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. Perfect balance of story and combat, with a huge world packed with interesting quests and a huge diversity of scenery and enemies. Party members that had their own motivations, and could leave or fight you if they were displeased. Tons of spells and abilities at your disposal. This was Bioware’s last game before they started overusing fake choices so much, and IMO they’ve never and will never make a game this great again. Every few years I install from from disks and play it again, and get sucked in all over again.
I understand the enhanced edition got console ports recently; though I can’t imagine it controlling well at all without a mouse and keyboard, anyone who hasn’t experienced Bioware’s masterpiece should try it out.

Portal 2.
Witcher 2 and 3. And for some honorable mentions;
Mass Effect trilogy (Fight me!)
Knights of the Old Republic
Dragon Age Origins
Divinity Original Sin 2
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Fallout New Vegas
Path of Exile
it's really hard to pick just one. It's probably a toss up between FFVIII, FFX, Persona 4: Golden, or Chrono Trigger.
Incredibly hard to pick just one. Suikoden, PDS, FF7, KotOR, P4, Deus Ex...
... I'm gonna go with KotOR. Because it's still the best Star Wars game for me.
Do the Mass Effect games count as an RPG? If so, I'd go with them (the trilogy).
Otherwise, probably Witcher 3.

They are cover based third person shooters, gears of war with dialogues.

No... Mass Effect has RPG elements in it. Gears does not.
I genuinely couldn't say. I have such fond memories from games like Chrono Trigger, KotOR, FF6/7/8/9, Mass Effect, etc. I think I have to say FF7... Not because it's the be-all-end-all, but because that was the game that got me heavily into RPG's. My bro and I used to bug my Mum and Dad every weekend to take us to rent the game for a few days.
xenogears. years has passed, i havent played any game where in i was engaged emotionally. ff7 and 8 are fantastic gems, but im still hoping a remake or even remaster
