Dear gamers in the System Wars board!

What's your personal favorite vehicular combat game of all time?

My favorite of all time is Burnout Revenge 360 version then followed by Blur.

Yeah burnout had really intense crashes you could get into with other cars. The cars were too weak though, they broke in just a few hits.

For myself, I'm thinking Carmageddon 2. I always liked smashing into and grinding away at the other cars until they completely stop working, its a good feeling. I got a lot of speeding tickets and a careless driving charge in real life because of my Carmageddon driving skills.

Easily Vigilante 8 (if anyone even knows what that is..) and by a long shot. Blew any and every Twisted Metal out of the water in my opinion. It had awesome characters/vehicles, sound effects, mechanics, and basically, in my opinion, felt the the driving/shooting equivalent to the Timesplitters franchise. I would have said something like Mario Kart, but I just feel like the only battle mode I really ever liked in that franchise was the experience the SNES brought.

I REALLY hope we get a Vigilante 8 and Timesplitters (Future Perfect was by far my favorite) game next gen. They are past due, and both have a LOT of potential. Those games were both amazing.

Oh I remember that, it is essentially the spiritual successor to my other favote vehicular combat game Interstate 76. Both great games.

I never played Interstate 76 but it looks really cool. Might have to put that on my list of "games to get."... as if that's not already 10 miles long. meh oh well. What's one more game? :P

I missed Spy Hunter but it's a shame that Warner Bros decided to discontinue the franchise since after the release of Spy Hunter 2012 for PS Vita/3DS (Probably due to mixed reviews).

I didn't like the second one, but my vote goes for Vigilante 8.

As for the OP i'm not sure Burnout qualifies for vehicular combat as it doesn't have weapons that can be used.

Does bf4 count? Because the feeling of absolute power I had when in an attack chopper or a tank....unrivalled.

I'd say Twisted Metal 4. I love the majority of the Twisted Metal games but 4 was one I think I spent the most playing when I was a kid. Vigilante 8 was also pretty damn fun.

@mclarenmaster18: I use to play Spy Hunter in the arcades 30 years ago. Then I owned it on NES. I liked the arcade version a lot.

I think I played a demo of Vigilante 8. I haven’t played a lot of games in the genre.

@dagubot: Twisted Metal 4 is the most overlooked game in the franchise. I think people hated 3 so much, they skipped out on it. It's a shame as it holds up best out of the PS1 entries.

And now to make myself seem even more contrarion, Twisted Metal 2012 is my favorite car combat game of all time. It disapointed me at first, mostly because I hated that characters were no longer tied to their car, most of them were gone, there is way to much story for the three characters were left, and the story suuuuuuuuucks.

But, once you unlock everything and can ignore the story mode, the gameplay is great. Arenas can be sectioned off to be as big or small as you want, nice variety of weapons. In all the ways that really matter, this is easily the best game in the series. Shame how hard it bombed.

Now, for a racing combat game, I'd say Split/Second or Blur depending what time of day you ask me. Both great but in different ways.

@judaspete:

I had very limited experience with the Twisted Metal games. Only played the PSP one a little but I enjoyed the PS3 game quite a bit.

Since nobody has mentioned it, I'll mention Jak X. I replayed it last year and it's quite alot of fun.

Nobody has mentioned Crash Team racing either I think, always preferred it to the Mario Kart games for some reason.

Sonic Allstars Racing transformed is pretty cool too.

Also want to shout out a game that most people have never head of called Gas Guzzlers Extreme. It's on Steam and Xbox One. Pretty fun.

@my_user_name: I have the PS2 port of Twisted Metal: Head On, and it is great. Halfway between a sequel and remake of Twisted Metal 2. Basically Black's gameplay, but with the goofy, colorful style of the PS1 games. The way it should be :). Car combat is too absurd a concept to give a dark, gritty tone like Black and 2012.

Jak X is awesome. Would actually prefer a sequel to that over a mainline Jak game.

Never heard of it, but will check out Gas Guzzlers Extreme.

Some Mario Kart, Double Dash probably. F-Zero GX too, if it counts.

Carmageddon 2's a classic.

Blazerush is an awesome little game. Just wish they would add some more content.

Edit: Oh, and Wreckfest is great too.

F-Zero is sort of like vehicular combat because since during the gameplay, the player has the option to knock down opponents by double-tapping a button to make their vehicle spin and ram into them.

Starting from Burnout 3, players have the ability to take down opponents by ramming into them in demolition derby style.

Burnout was great. I wish there was at least one racing game like it that wasn't open world.
