Yakuza and Persona are 'on that list' of games Sega wants to bring to PC

"Of course it's something we're talking about it… that would just be incredible to bring that to the PC audience."

Speaking to John Clark, Sega Europe's senior vice president of commercial publishing, at E3, our Samuel asked that very question.

"If I asked you to write me a list of ten games you want Sega to bring out on PC, it probably isn't any different from the list [we have]," says Clark. "I could ask anyone at Sega: write me a list. And what motivates it? I think there's a certain catalogue that people just have an affinity with.

"If you send [your] list over I'll tell you which ones we can tick, which ones are on our list, which ones are possibilities, which ones are not possibilities, which ones we've talked about, which ones we're talking about, which ones we're working on, you know, they'll be on that list."

It seems Sega is conscious of community expectation, then, something the company itself has somewhat perpetuated with the porting of the aforementioned fan-favoured classics. So, is a game like Yakuza one that might fit that purview?

"It's on that list," continues Clark. "Of course something we're talking about it… that would just be incredible to bring that to the PC audience."

When pressed about Persona, Clark echoes the above. "Of course, of course—I keep trying to get in ahead of you, I'm trying to guess what you're going to say next. We don't feel that anything is off the table in terms of these conversations. The fact that as an organisation we're having these healthy conversations, they're constructive, we recognise the value, we recognise the value of the community, the IP. The IP has got continued life to grow and get bigger."

Nothing confirmed, then, but I'm suddenly very confident we'll see the likes of Yakuza and Persona on PC at some point down the line. Speaking to the former, though, how would Sega approach release as far as the chronology of the series is concerned? The original 2005 game was remastered and launched in Japan last year—named Yakuza Kiwami—and is due to launch on PS4 in the west this year. Would that mean prequel Yakuza 0 comes first, followed by the remade original—or would Sega stick to the schedule as per its console run? Speculate away in the comments below.

And before you go—keep your eyes peeled for Samuel's interview in full which offers some really interesting insights into the process of porting Japanese games.

On one hand, PC seems like a very good match for both games, especially Persona where there is a definite untapped market. On the other hand...

I don't like it when people nag me to play games I dont want to play. I dont want to play generic jRPG X. I don't want to play another CCG, I don't want to play anything (modern) Persona ever again.

But I might just give the Yakuza games a shot. That actually sounds remotely interesting.

You're so mad at Persona lol

Honestly, I'm not a fan of either of them, Persona is turn-based and that's utterly off-putting for me but I'll definitely give it a shot to be sure, and Yakuza, again not sure, gotta try it.

Plenty of people. But the most obnoxious example was when someone nagged me to get 999 a few years back. Appearantly "Sorry for not playing 999, but I am too busy studying for next week's exam", is not a good reason to not be playing certain games at the moment.

I just mentioned CCG and jRPGs in particular because those 2 are my least favorite genres.

Interesting, putting it on Windows would bring in a pretty huge audience.

I'm down for this.

They could make a Yakuza 1-5 remaster, put on PC and PS4 then add 0, Kiwami and 6.

Not sure about Persona.

Yakuza does at the very least look interesting. So I might just try it out. Persona 4 was the worst combination of awkward (underage anime girl dating sim) and boring (dating sims are boring, period). Nothing I have seen has convinced me that Persona 5 will be any different.

And those steam sales shall save us all by shaving off those prices :P

It'll be more power to Sega to put them on the PC. They make and publish good games. They can put whatever game they want on the PC that they have.

I think it would be great for Yakuza as those games have small budgets, and could use the extra sales. Plus the series is very under appreciated so the more exposure the better.

Good of Microsoft to unify the Xbox & PC together to attract a larger range of audience rather than competing "who has the bigger "internet pen..." with Sony...lol.

Glad to see Persona 5 & Yakuza might make its way to PC!

How's the gameplay?

I'm still at the beginning so there's a lot I haven't seen yet, but so far it's a mishmash of solid fighting, rhythm based karaoke, and collecting stuff in a highly detailed representation of 80's Japan. Having played a couple of the previous games, it's only the the tip of the iceberg. There's tons of stuff to do in these games, all wrapped up in an intriguing story of betrayal, hot Japanese chicks, and the criminal underworld. There's really nothing else quite like it.

oh that's quite interesting, hope they release it asap

I say do it. More people who can enjoy the games, the better. May as well put it on the Switch and X1 ecosystem too. The more sales, the better for the franchises.

I always found her to be quite... uncanny. But she definately has her appeal, she has to be very popular for a reason.

Yes to a Switch version. I'm pretty sure Persona 5 would sell horribly on Xbox 1. Just look at the difference in FFXV sales between PS4 and XB1. Most of em' don't want games like that lol

I'd trust SoE to get it done if they're given the green light, but this is more of a question for SoJ and probably more so for Atlus. I'd double dip for both game series anyway.

Probably skip on Persona.
