Xenoblade Chronicles Announced Exclusively for New 3DS

This isn't all, by the way, as Nintendo has confirmed that new games are in development that will run only on 'New 3DS.'

That said, I don't like it. I'm glad the new upgrade exists- it seems like the definitive version- but I hope there aren't too many New 3DS exclusives, not just yet. I hope it's more like 'Color Enhanced' or 'DSi Enhanced Games' (such as Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver!) to begin with, and maybe two or three years from now, they can do 3DS exclusives.

unless they make a bigger version of the new 3ds with a real 2nd joystick I have no interest. I like using the circle pad pro with my regular 3ds.

I have a pretty mixed bag of thoughts on the whole "New" 3ds thing.

The biggest selling point to about the new 3ds is the improved 3D. I'd enjoy 3d more if I didn't have to constantly adjust.

I'd rather play it on PC, a small screen for this game just kind of kills the immersion.

Pretty sure a new generation handheld is around the corner. I'll wait firmly with my old 3DS XL.

I was of this opinion until last night. But the last time Nintendo pulled off a mid generation upgrade like this, with GBC and DSi, they extended the lifespan of their products by 2-3 years, at least. I don't think a new handheld generation is coming until 2017-2018 now.

if they start making tons of new 3ds games I can see it becoming a problem.

It's probably going to be like GBC and DSi, where they will only make 'Enhanced' games to begin with, and a year or so down the line, they will start doing exclusives.

The 3DS is probably going to be around for quite a bit longer then. I'd really like to play this game, but it's impossible to find around here, and I don't buy stuff online.

@charizard1605: The more I think about it, the more I think that maybe this was necessary.

Think about it. If they came out with a brand new console, right now, it probably wouldn't sell. The old 3DS couldn't handle big games like Xenoblade and others. (Like maybe Mario Galaxy 3D and Wind Waker 3D) So maybe this was the only way Nintendo could release those games for 3DS without releasing a new console...

I dunno. This sucks, but maybe they could release a thing to play the new 3DS games on the old 3DS, like they did with the N64 expansion pack.

It's a bitter pill to swallow, but maybe the pill is what's best....Still sucks though.

@charizard1605: well the dsi only lasted about 2 years before they rolled the 3ds out. I wouldn't jump the gun on a purchase just yet

My old 3DS is old. It's a launch model, I was going to upgrade to an XL this Holiday. Now I'm not actually sure anymore if I even want to upgrade. To any Nintendo handheld. Ever.

I agree. Hell, just rending the game natively in full HD with AA does Xenoblade wonders. I've done it with Dolphin and the Wii hardware doesn't do that art justice. The 3DS even less so.

@charizard1605: I'm still rocking my og 3ds with my ambasador games and It's done me good. My stance on this is I'm gonna probably skip this because whatever nintendo's next handheld is going to be, it will probably have all the features this thing has

I'll bet this new 3DS is at least powerful enough for them to put GBA games on the eshop, so that is a bonus.

Yeah, Nintendo does this with pretty much all of their handhelds. I'm probably done buying 3DS models (unless the one I already have stops getting support, which would be infuriating), but if the exclusive library of "new 3DS" ends up being good, unlike the DSi, I might get the next handheld at launch if it is backwards compatible.

Why? This has always been Nintendo's strategy when it comes to handhelds.

Do you still remember the Gameboy color? There also were a lot of exclusives games for that device that were unplayable on a regular gameboy. Although I understand the frustration if you're an early adaptor... That's why one must always follow the golden rule: Never buy at launch.

Anyway, I'll definitely buy this even though I bought an XL a year ago.

To be fair, I'm sure a lot of people who are not early adopters feel burned by this. The 3DS launched like 3 or 4 years ago. My biggest gripe is that we should be getting details on the next handheld in the near future, rather than a revision to an old handheld that will squeeze a little bit more life out of it with a few exclusives.

Yeah, the game looks bad enough on the Wii. Playing the game with even worse graphics on the 3DS doesn't interest me one bit. They should have handled it like they did Bayonetta 2. Or just put Wii games on the eshop.

@charizard1605: DSI barely had any exclusives, and GBC had exclusive games piled on at the start. Only some games were cross compatible for awhile.

Looks like I sold my 3DS at the right time. Unless Nintendo goes third party, I'm done supporting them. They've completely lost me with their systems.

@charizard1605 Well to me, this N3DS should have been Region-Lock free if you ask me, I would have jump on board with this thing but to me, I didn't get 3DS until they lower the price and last year, I upgrade to XL which I love by the way but now this, I like the new features it has really I do but considering this was a surprise for me, Nintendo should have just announce this back at E3 2014 and I'm sure they would have gotten better reception from the fans. Also I do believe a Special Promotion is in order for those of us who want to switch for the new one or a bundle. I will wait for a bundle with Xenoblade+N3DS since most games will require to play with the N3DS anyway. So charizard1605, will you get a bundle or wait for a special promotion? Also I don't plan on seeing a new Handheld anytime soon as you put it.

I wouldn't be surprise if Pokemon Z now requires N3DS.

I say why bother? XBC is something you can miss as it's not really that memorable of a game. Xenogears was great, the Xenosaga trilogy was amazing, but Xenoblade was just plain garbage. Bad graphics/art direction, gameplay, ugly setting and oh my god, the forgettable characters. Being put on the new 3DS (an even more underpowered hardware than Wii) is not going to change a thing and it shows they're desperate for DS level sales.

Hopefully they fix that terrible framerate. It's a 3DS so, what can you really say about graphics. I don't know why Nintendo didn't just include this with Xenoblade Chronices X or do a HD remaster rather then release a gimped version.

@speak_low: you can barely compare the two, a 'new" copy of xenoblades is like 60 bucks and up. I could get a copy of tlou of the ps3 for less than 30 bucks

Used copies are $60 and up. New copies are more than $100.

This is a really dick move. Making exclusives against your own most successful handheld. Great way to promote a trusting relationship with your customers.

I guess Nintendo had to do something to address the declining sales of their current models. Good for them for doing what Sony lacked the will to do with regards to the PSP. Beyond this title (and possibly other ports), I believe Nintendo will most likely refrain from making new games that are exclusive to this console. After all, their two final DS releases (Pokemon Black 2 and White 2) were not DSi exclusives. I just hope they are competitively priced and come bundled with micro-SD cards.

@charizard1605: actually, the GBC and DSi had fairly short lifespans really. Both systems were replaced with true successors in less than 3 years. I'd be genuinely surprised if a successor isn't out by 2017, especially given Nintendo's compulsive desire to release new handhelds every couple years.
