@last_lap: Yeah, they probably weren’t big sellers and that would certainly impact their possibilities for sequels. Not saying that there’s necessarily angst or bad blood between Mistwalker and MS, just saying that there may be simply different things that they want to pursue. Maybe Mistwalker just wanted to pursue different projects or whatever. Also I don’t think everything is based on what Phil does or doesn’t want. Has he even ever said anything about those two games? Maybe he would be interested but others either in Microsoft or Mistwalker aren’t. I just think that you can’t just automatically assume that these games aren’t getting sequels because Phil doesn’t want to spend the money when there’s so many other factors that come into play when developing games.
I was searching for reasons that these games haven't had sequels, and I wasn't saying you said there was any angst, I was just looking for a multitude of reasons as to why.
I found this where Phil professes his love for both games, and wants to bring them to backwards compatibility to the Xbox One.
I also found this where he said
"RPGs for me personally, that's the genre I grew up playing, starting with the old Ultima series," Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer told Eurogamer at Gamescom.
"Those are games that are in my heart. When we launched 360 we invested in Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon with Sakaguchi-san. Those were really important games from us."
So he speaks a good game in public, but in reality it means little, just PR speak as he has done very little in the almost 10yrs he's been there.
You might think i'm being critical of Phil, but he's done little with the IP's MS owns and is just buying up more studios.
Anyway I hope that something gets announced tomorrow that isn't just third-party partnerships.
