Xbox Series X disc drives are making random clicking and machine gun like noises world wide. This is not an isolated incident or 2 and unlike the overheating issues that might have been fake, this is not @xantufrog

https://www.polygon.com/2020/11/11/21560233/xbox-series-x-disk-drive-sounds-inserting-game-issues-microsoft

"Microsoft did not return a request for comment in time for press."

Excuses like "what do you expect, it's a launch console" shouldn't apply when there's been ample time to thoroughly test this thing out. I hope no one here is experiencing this because this sucks.

Save the bag of salt bro. I actually feel bad for anyone experiencing this. Gen before last it was red rings. Last gen it was jet engines and now it's machine guns...

When will the fuckery stop?

Definitely a faulty unit. That's crazy lol.

These cases with regards to PS5/XSX are gonna be hella slim... I doubt we're seeing anything like the DRE or RROD.

Yeah man. Definitely check it thoroughly by running a few games because if there's an issue, you want it nipped in the bud early my friend.

@lundy86_4: Idk man...I'm sure not all of those cases of PS5s and XSXs overheating are fake...but this disc drive issue sounds pretty serious.

Well that certainly sucks for anyone who gets that but these things happen unfortunately. Hopefully it’s not a serious and widespread issue.

Serious? Definitely. Whether it's widespread is completely in the wind.

MS already poked fun at the smoking XSX:

I watched a Gremlins 2 DVD on mine and I heard no noise. One pet peeve I had is I initially put the disc in upside down and the machine didn’t immediately spit it out but gave me a read error.

So far everything seems good, haven't put a disc in yet because I have mostly been digital for the last several years.

This isn't the first time they've used garbage disc drives remember the thompson drive on the original xbox it stopped reading discs and the laser was garbage and the drive was loud and garbage.

@ProtossRushX: the drive in the og Xbox was a disaster. I went through multiple repairs, and finally got rid of it for that reason (when it stopped opening).

I ran in to hard drive problems on the OG Xbox and had disc problems with the PS3. All 3 of them.😑

When folks were complaining about Xbox 360 (I owned one much later in the gen), I was feeling the pain of owning a PS3. My first system got stolen, second one YLOD, third disc drive died and then the fourth survived.

Lol that's why I don't take pleasure in seeing other people's consoles fail. That sucks!

My PS3 YLOD on me too just when I was starting to use the Linux feature.

I saw his video and it looks realish (there is always a slight chance it is fake like 1% since it is the internet :D ) that said is he hoping that Twitter is the best way to ret it resolved? Did he try calling the store he bought it from or filing an online claim with MS on their tech website

The guy replied to someone that he already sent the unit back to Xbox and Xbox will exchange. Looking at his replies the dude was maybe frustrated everyone downplaying and calling it fake so he plugged the thing back and recorded it.

I guess the fix for this is to apply a little force to the disc. The seals are tight is what they are saying here

@louixiii: just watched the video in the OP.. that is not the disc drive that is a wire hitting a fan blade (first 2 videos at the link .. the 3rd is fixable but applying a little force to open the seals on the drive)

This is one of the reasons I wouldn't have early adopted the PS5 or Series X. Only got the Series S straight away, because the chances of them messing up a fan installation (the only moving part) is slim.

Hopefully they didn't use cheap little rubber bands for tension of the disk drive like they did with the OG Xbox and the 360. Keeping a screwdriver next to my console to pry it open and put the disk in real quick before it snapped shut was a highlight of my Xbox experience back in the day.

Amen to that.

My 60Gb PS3 also got YLOD. It was the original EU model so it didn't have the eject button even when console is dead ability. I had to take the disc drive apart to get my game out. Of course it had to be dark souls 2 that i was playing when it popped....i tells ya me and dark souls is like Homer Simpson and New York.

I also really miss my vita. i was enjoying Ys8 when it went :(.

And this year my PC decided all of a sudden that it didn't want to be a PC anymore......dang it.

so you guys with new ps5's, why are you in here commenting on this? Nothing to play? Or did you finish the only launch game that is single player cinematic already? Kinda confused? Early adopters are idiots.

Hardware failure sucks, the only sistem that died on my was my 40gig ps3 after a power outage. I hope this is fixed soon.
