What is ‘next gen’ about Control Ultimate Edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S?

At least the Xbox One S All Digital had a funny nickname, the Xbox SAD.

These consoles weren’t ready for raytracing. Well, neither was AMD for that matter. I played some of the cloud version on Switch and was shocked at how well it ran.

Control had lots of issues on the previous gen, if the XSS is able to run it at (close to locked) 60 FPS that is a big improvement.

I'm sure, having it run games at 60fps is nice. If you have a 1080p TV than sure, a XSS is nice.

However, I saw games on PS4 and PS4 pro running at 1080/60 so that makes it less of a feat to me :P

Getting an Xbox Series S is such a waste lol. You might as well save some more money and get a PS5 or XSX and get your money's worth.

But that logic you may as well save the money and get a shit hot PC.

To be honest, Control was having framerate drops on Xbox One/PS4 but nowhere near as bad as CP2077. But at the same time, seeing XSS running Control in 900p/60fps is actually a good thing and I always value better framerates to better graphics myself. To the average console gamer, they wouldn't care for better performance but I do. Do you really need RT on console over better framerates? That depends on you but nevertheless, if I can get my games to run 60fps and I can only get it in 900p, then so beat it. XSS for the price its going and 60fps without the eye-candy features is a winner in my books.

Well if consoles had Nvidia tech instead they could have RT and 60fps :P

1440p is more than enough for my 9th gen games, assuming they run at 60fps, of course. 900p and/or 30fps is not acceptable.

A PS5 all digital is only $100 more. A XSX is $200 more, but you at least you don't have buy digital And for that money, you get a significantly better console. As for PC, go ahead and spend your money as you wish lol.

@davillain-: From what I understand, Nvidia just comes in too expensive every time the bidding process starts. But really, why would Nvidia budge? They have a huge market share in the GPU market, gaming and beyond. Then there’s the Switch. Their margins must be excellent there. AMD NEEDS the console contracts. They would be in a really bad spot otherwise. Especially before Ryzen

Console gamers and devs would greatly benefit from Nvidia hardware. I’m just not sure we’ll see it in a Xbox or PlayStation every again.

I don't have to buy digital anyway I have gamepass. The XSS is for my 9 year old daughter a PS5 or XSX would be wasted on her.

Its funny how RT was hyped as the next big thing, but no games support it in 60fps. Outside of taking screen shots, i don't see myself playing a single game across this whole generation in 30fps with rt. Sad.

Oh ok, I thought Nvidia would make SOCs again like AMD does for consoles, with them buying ARM.

I mean the positive thing about this next gen is that they allow players to choose for 60fps performance modes for the first time.

I hope this feature stays because I will always pick 60fps mode over more eye candy or higher resolutions.

That's the best thing about current gen, yes. Its just not enough. You have 8k on the box while games are already running below 1440p, and its been two months, not to mention that this is a reasonably old last gen game. Its looking real bad for the future. I am sure that developers like ND will deliver visuals that will trigger hermits, but it will run in 30fps.

Or the PS3? :-S

It can do RT, not very well. Neither can the Series X and PS5. AMDs RDNA 2 isn't good at the job. When it comes to RT, RDNA 2 is like the RTX 2000 series cards. You can do it, but it's not a good f**kin idea.

So what, the Series X and PS5 can do RT on a last gen game? What about a true current gen game when they come?

And at the end of the day, the Series S is a cheap console aimed at those who can't afford or are unwilling to pay for the other two consoles. It's officially sold at around the same price or cheaper than the Xbox One S and PS4. And anyone who has chosen it, isn't expecting UHD or RT or will care about them.
