During their latest financial statements, EA revealed that the cumulative install base of the PS4 and Xbox One is at 55 million worldwide as of December 31, 2015.

Given that the PS4's sales as of December 31 are at 35.9 million, this means that the Xbox One's worldwide sales come to 19.1 million units sold worldwide as of December 31, 2015.

It's not a bad number at all- though, of course, the worldwide ratio currently seems to be tending towards 2:1.

The standings for all consoles this generation, with last known numbers:

3DS: 55 million units (as of September 30, 2015)
PS4:
35.9 million units
XB1: 19.1 million units
Wii U: 10.5 million units (as of September 30, 2015)
PSV: 10.4 million units

PS4: 35.9 million units

Wow, almost doubled up X1

PS4 IS on a ROLL.

Wii U: 10.5 million, no wonder Nintendo wants to drop it and have NX come out.

Doubled up on that sum'bitch. Time to grab some much deserved high end champagne and celebrate SONY's success with the current gen 8 console leader, PS4.

The future is looking very grim for Microsoft. Its reconciliation of exclusives between PC and X1 isn't helping either.

BTW PS4 in the last three months of 2015 shipped 8.7m units, almost as many as there are WiiUs LTD.

I can see NX getting some momentum at the expense of X1 worldwide and at the expense of PS4 in Japan, though.

All in all, I say those numbers are quite solid. This means we could expect maybe 35-40 million units sold lifetime. Is it as good as 360? No. but all in all that is quite respectable in console sales. Especially considering all the hurdles they had to clear to even get this far. That would put it in the SNES/N64 area, which is not too shabby.

It's about 8 million behind where the 360 was at 3 years on the market.

no, the xbone is a bit of a disaster compared to the 360.

the real question is if ANY future MS console can be as successful as the 360, they may have peaked too early, lol

Where are these statements? All I see is a link to some guys twitter who 'tweets about the video game industry' and says "EA say".

Where is the actual source? Not trying to be that guy dude but no one else would get away with this shit...

@nyadc: Christ almighty. Have you ever asked people to provide sources for financial earnings calls? No?

The source is the financial earnings call, if you'd rather, you're free to wait until next week when the transcript is posted on EA's investor relations website. Meanwhile, you are also free to dismiss the reports made by people actually attending the call.

It could be as credible as gravity, but this is the internet, you could be a gorilla for all I know.

As of right now there is nothing tangible to prove this is true, that is the point, you are the one who should wait. If you want to post things like this you should at least put in a citation that documentation and evidence is pending.

You need to be held to the same standards as everyone else, I don't care who you are.

@nyadc: This is a guy who runs his own website that thrives and subsists in reporting accurate financial earnings numbers. He has reported plenty of numbers from financial earnings before, they have all been true. He's not going to start making shit up now out of some misguided propaganda against the Xbox One.

Hell, I have literally never seen anyone question reports from financial calls before. We get so much news and numbers from them, and you've never once spoken out against them. Now, news regarding the Xbox One comes from one of these (and it's not even bad news!) and suddenly a financial earnings call by the biggest third party in the world is not a viable source?

Lol okay.

I'm not saying this is a positive or negative, I don't care about the substance, I care about your lack of ability to tangibly prove this took place.

You can't; thus me saying all of this.

Credibility doesn't mean anything, burden of proof is all that matters.

@nyadc: the burden of proof is that he attended the financial earnings call, and is reporting from it. He has reported from EA's own calls before, so we know he is attending it this time too. Therefore, what he says is true. That's it. End of burden of proof.

Also, burden of proof and credibility can't be divested, one is necessary to establish the other. Why do I have to tell you something as basic as this?

That's not burden of proof, that is hearsay based upon credibility and trust of this individual, that's an appeal to authority fallacy.

This is also not true, you could have absolute credibility yet report falsehoods and have absolutely no credibility and report the truth.

Seems the only thing which is basic here is your understanding of these rudimentary realities.

Pretty good numbers for XB1, but man the PS4 is killing it.

Lastly, the poor Wii U. Those numbers are hella depressing even if its up to 11 - 12 million by now. I think we know what Nintendo is going to do to the Wii U this year.

Most importantly, no RROD issues this generation. You can bet 360's numbers were artificially boosted by millions of people having to purchase replacement units.

LOL at the thread title.

No, the Xbox One has not 'sold 19 million.'

EA gave nothing more than an estimate of the number of combined consoles sold. An estimate.

In other words EA has no actual worldwide sales numbers for the Xbox One.

Absolutely not, that's the problem when you don't have evidence, it's a shit show of 'this is what I think' and I don't give a rats ass what people think, it's what you can prove.

The Wii U was never outselling the Xbox One, it has a larger market share because it was on the market 369 days before the Xbox came out, it's about to be surpassed in both countries.

Those threads are just Charizard trying to be a wordsmith and pull a veil over peoples eyes, he's a cow/sheep hybrid and it's pathetic.

But i think this year it will fall behind because 2008 was solid sales wise for the xbox 360.

HD-Era games are much more expensive to develop than Gen6 games, though. That could pose a problem for third party support.

You're absolutely right- after all, why would we expect the biggest third party in the world, one whose success is defined by the number of consoles (which it sells its games on) sold to the market, know what install base it is selling to?

Such a sensible thing to say.

@thedork_knight said:

I'm sorry, how are the subject of this thread, and Xbox One being outsold in Germany and France mutually exclusive?

And what are you? A hybrid fan of a company that was so great at making consoles that it drove itself out of the hardware market, no longer makes consoles, nearly went bankrupt, was bought out by a different corporate entity, and is now a soulless shell of its former self; and a company that is so great at making consoles that it has never once won a generation that it was in, and has a complete inability to secure and maintain exclusives games, and all of this in spite of the fact that it is the biggest company in the industry? If I am pathetic, what does that make you?

EA said over 55 million units.

Ms ships to 40 countries 20 million

Sony ships 120+ countries 35 million.

Far from a disaster as some people n here want people to believe. MS terrible reveal of the xbox one in 2013 and resolution debates should have harmed the xbox one even more than it has.

People forget Sony dominates Europe, but places like Germany have banned games like Gears of War so that was never going to help MS over there.

MS Software sales are up and hardware is 20 million nothing wrong with that. 20 million xbox one gamers is not bad.

Absolutely. The Xbox One sales are nothing to sneeze at- they're good, respectable sales all said and done.

It's not- it's just either hardcore cows trying to claim that it is, or hardcore lemmings with a solid persecution complex trying to think that this thread was intended to paint those numbers in a bad light. But 19 million sold in two years is in no way at all bad.

Ah.

Yeah, the Xbox 360 came into its own in 2008, so the Xbox One probably can't keep up starting this year.

HD-Era games are much more expensive to develop than Gen6 games, though. That could pose a problem for third party support.

Sure, but Xbox One is easy to port to from the PS4 and PC; minimal investment opening up even a potential audience of a million or so would be worth it to the extent that most games would be able to justify having an Xbox One version- at least in the west.

The gap between the PS4, X1 and Wii U looks similar to the gap between the PS1, N64 and Saturn.

Let's hope, then, that the NX is not Nintendo's Dreamcast. I kind of want them to stick around.
