Also USA Xbox One sold 100 000 consoles while PS4 sold 50 000 consoles.

Xbox One has been the UK's "best-selling games console for four weeks in a row", according to an MCV report.

The console is reported to have benefited from PlayStation 4's hardware shortages and Microsoft's official £30 price cut, which came into effect three weeks ago. The launch of Titanfall has helped as well, with Xbox One sales rising 96 per cent during the game's launch week.

However, Microsoft's recent sales success, PlayStation 4 allegedly remains the overall best-selling console of the two, with new supply boosting last week's hardware sales by 72 per cent.

Well it does matter if you want to sell more consoles. It does make a difference. You'd have to be a complete idiot not to understand that. I know you aren't an idiot. If XB1 were in the same number of countries as the PS4 is pretty obvious it would have more sales then it currently does.

Okay, but once again, who cares? It may have more, but it's doubtful it would be significantly more, and most likely still out sold by the PS4. X1 is released in its major markets. I think the only market that would be a major seller would be china if they managed to get a footing there.

But the thread title itself is already misleading, as it fails to mention that it is only in the UK.

Titanfall has helped but i think it's mainly the way the price has crashed, the "official" £30 opened the floodgates. You can find the X1 at £365 atm, only £15 more than the PS4. That's £70 off, i don't think even the Wii U had it's price slashed like that.

I don't think this'll hold for long, the PS4 is still massively supply constrained given it's pretty much impossible to get hold of one at it's £350 base price and Amazon aren't getting more till April. I can't find any at a price less than £390 currently so the X1 has the price advantage atm.

Whatever bump this is, it's as big as it's gonna get. So, it's a good thing XBone is clearing some of that backed up stock they have. Retailers were probably worried they'd have to take it on the nose to clear space for stuff that really moves.

Honestly, the jump is all about the price drop. MS needs to drop the one to 399 or even 350. Yeah, I know I'm not an investor so its easy to say what a company should and shouldn't do. But realistically the One has games and features and more big games to come. It is simply to expensive. Titanfall is a huge game, but just one game. Its one of the powerful titles the One has even though its not exclusive. MS should bite the bullet and drop the price. That will help in sales being stronger over a longer period of time. Then when the Gears and Halos and Quantum Breaks arrive they will be in good shape. Titanfall has likely done its job. Sold a couple hundred thousand Xbox Ones, reviewed very well, and added value to the console. That's all you can ask from a big name game.

NO. even in all those combined territories, ms already knows its not going to catch up in sales, thats why they are waiting for september. its not like xbones are supply constrained. they are everywhere. they stand a better chance catching up by concentrating in the uk and us

@shawn30: I usually don't agree with you, but I agree with you, problem is if MS drops the price now it'll piss off investors and fan base alike, right now at 500$ the xbone isn't looking to hot but will still sell regardless, and more or less we will see a price drop next year after E3 at the same time if Sony gets wind they'll do the same as well, since they would already be making a profit at this point, it's to early to tell but I hope MS makes the right decision I don't know if halo or gears will boost it that much but time will tell.

It's in September because M$ was original going to launch the XB1 in Sept 2014. They didn't have everything ready for the international market. The Kinect voice recognition for foreign countries weren't in place yet. It doesn't matter if they would catch up immediately or not. The fact is, they would have more sales then they do now. It's always a priority to build sales quickly after launch so that more developers will jump on board to make games. So you're completely wrong about that. Why do you think Microsoft keeps saying it's a marathon, not a sprint race? If they could have launched in all those countries at once, they would have.

We'll here's the thing. Its never any one game. Halo 4 sold 10 million and didn't vault the 360 millions ahead of the PS3. No Uncharted did either. Neither did Gears of War or TLOU. Its always about price and a number of quality games. Sometimes a price drop is the necessary thing. investors at MS are in this for the long haul and profits through apps and Live will make up for the price drop. Its better than systems on the shelves. The One needs to be 399 or even better 350. The funniest thing about the Xbox One is that if the PS4 wasn't selling so great and we just looked at the One alone, to likely be at 4 million sales with short-term price drops in recent weeks only, but mostly being a 500 device, the One has done very well and is ahead of the 360's pace. All in all we're talking about 6+ million PS4 and about 4 million Xbox Ones within 4 and a half months worldwide. The 360 and PS3 are all 80+ million. This gen has a loooooooong way to go, and all it takes is price drops and great games. It really is that simple. The PS3, despite 10 million sales behind at launch, being more expensive, had the so-called inferior multiplats and missing or betting late DLC for key big name games crawled its way back simply by hitting the right price and making great games. Their strategy wasn't rocket science. MS has to price drop and have a killer E3 game wise, Kinect apps wise, features wise, and a price drop. Over time they will do very well this gen even if they end up losing to Sony overall. More people in the world care about price, great features, and great games than the name on the box. Millions bought every CoD for the PS3 despite the 360 being the better version and getting DLC first. Same thing will happen with Destiny. The PS4 will get DLC first and have better performance, but the One owners will still buy it cause it'll likely be a great game and Bungie rarely disappoints.

I dont think Xboner sell that well at all, only reason it selling is because retailers from those contries that have to wait for septermber 2014 just import Xboner from other places like UK. Here in sweden it is not a problem at all get a imported Xboner, they are flooding the shelves while Ps4 is sold out:P

The PS3's main success wasn't due to 'solid games'. Exclusives didn't even account for over 15% of entire software sales in the entire generation. What lunged the PS3 to outsell the Xbox 360 by 10 million (if you only count their head to head respective years) was,

1. Blu-Ray technology and media function

2. Certain packed in features Wifi, free PSN

And the last one, the biggest factor amongst sales

3. Brand Name perception and Prestige

These 3 factors epically the 3rd one are factors Microsofts Xbox Brand has nothing going on.

Microsoft won't be able to compete with Sony unless a massive price cut is enacted, something they can't afford to do this early in the generation, not only would stock price drop due to leery investors, Brand perception would plummet, and profits would drop massively.

Microsoft, as it is now won't win this generation. Technology will vastly improve whilst Kinect will remain dragnet rendering its 'novelty wow' and actual usefulness factor less prominent/needed.

Kinect/TV is Microsofts only real meal ticket to a generation of dominance/extreme success. An advantage/factor they'll lose overtime to inevitably superior offerings like Smart TV's, Roku/Chrome sticks, and plainly new tech.

Wow, quite the psychic here. You can't see the forest for the trees. First of all I'm counting all years, its worldwide to date only. Creating new ways to make your point of view valid in the face of facts reek of silliness.

1. Blu ray never shot the PS3 above the 360. It helped, but that was it. Streaming began to take over.

2. Free PSN is one of the reasons the PS3 never made any money ever and had them operating in the red for years and years.

3. Brand name and prestige didn't stop the 360 from selling 80+ million, just like Sony being in terrible financial shape didn't stop it either. Name and prestige are opinions. The pedastal you have Sony on isn't reflected by its creditors.

MS needs a price cut of 100 to 150 IMHO. Other than that, lol, I gave you reasons and the PS3 is the fact that no matter what, right price and right games will drive sales. MS is extremely powerful, has a great catalog of games coming, and features and they are improving the OS on the One at a monthly basis now. The thing you don't seem to get is that just because a app or feature or Kinect doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean it won't to others as MS refines it and creates Kinect-centric apps and games. Its amazing that you speak as if you know what will take place for years after 4 months post launch. I'm willing to say I don't know for certain what will happen, but I know what situation the One is in the PS3 was in and saw what Sony did to right the ship. I also know price drops and compelling games sell systems. That's a fact. The One was built for media apps and will continue to evolve just the same way the 360 did. If you look at what the 360's OS looked like on launch and compare it to what it looks like now you'd think you were on a altogether new system. The One will evolve and innovate as well, seeing as how it was built for that.
