Xbox One Elite Controller Series 2 5th fastest selling accessory ever -NPD

one of fastest selling gamepads ever.

https://venturebeat.com/2020/02/14/xbox-elite-series-2-is-one-of-the-fastest-selling-gamepads-ever/amp/

When Microsoft announced the first Xbox Elite Controller way back in 2015, everyone had the same question: Who is going to spend $150 on gamepad? It turns out that enough people bought it to justify the Xbox Elite Controller Series 2, which debuted in November for $180. And now that controller is among the most successful gaming accessories ever made.

The Xbox Elite Series 2 was the top-selling accessory in the United States in January. That is according to the latest report from industry-tracking firm The NPD Group. In fact, Microsoft’s premium gamepad has something of a streak going.

“The Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller was the best-selling video game accessory for the third consecutive month,” NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said. “With three months in market, It is the fifth fastest-selling video game accessory in U.S. history.”

It’s worth noting that NPD ranks accessories by dollars. That means it’s not necessarily the fifth fastest-selling accessory in terms of units.

Here’s the list of the top-five best-selling accessories in their first three months:

Xbox 360 Kinect with Kinect AdventuresXbox 360 Kinect with Gunstringer and Fruit NinjaDualShock 4 Wirelss Controller – BlackWii Remote with Motion Plus – BlackXbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2

This means that the Series 2 is also selling faster (in terms of dollars) than the original Elite controller. So Microsoft is clearly onto something. Maybe that means we’ll get a Series 3 in a few more years.

I dont even own an Xbox One and I want one.

That’s pretty impressive. I certainly wouldn’t mind getting one myself. The standard Xbox One controller is my all time favourite controller and the Elite 2 looks like it is a substantial step above that one.

@Pedro: Seems like gamers like them too. Makes sense, when you think about how controllers have improved over the years.

Still using my ~13 year old 360 controller. This one might be better but I don't see the point in upgrading while the old one is still working without issues.

Makes me wonder why it took Sony/MS so long to invest in a better quality and more expensive controller. Don't they see how every gamer is buying $150+ keyboards and expensive mices?

I would get one myself, but i have never had a controller that lasted me a for a while. If it had a lifetime warranty, i'd grab one.

It's an expensive controller, bet it sold **** all.

I will stick with my PS4 and Sega Saturn controllers depending on the game I am playing. And when my PS4 controller bites the dust I will replace it with an 8bitdo SN30 Pro+. I am not a fan of the asymmetrical thumbstick layout.

I would have never guessed they sold so well, only because of the price on them.

TC either doesn't know how to read or tried to hide this.

Anyone actually impressed by this, cuz I ain't. Show me something being 5th in terms of units sold, then I'll start to be impressed. Who ranks something by dollars anyways?

So sad the biggest Xbox exclusive is a controller.

Wait is it exclusive or it works on PC as well?

Sorry but non exclusive controllers don't count as real controllers.

@Xabiss:

Apparently you don't know how good Sony controllers sell,fastest selling controller mean crap Kinect also held a record and now is dead,fastest selling mean it sold fast in a given period of time,not that is selling better or will sustain those sales rate.

But then again Sony doesn't make a new controller yearly to fill a game void. 🤷

I remember when Cows mocked MS at the beginning of the gen for spending $100 million in R&D developing the Xbox One controller, claiming it was extravigant. The first elite controller alone sold over a million as of june 2016, and this is selling even faster. They have to have recouped that investment several fold by now.

That is actually quite impressive. For a $150 item selling well revenue wise when a $60 substitute available is quite something.

@StrongDeadlift:

The mocking wasn't for investing in a controller it was because that money would be better invested in games.

Elite controllers are over priced and a way for MS to get more money out of suckers,who are more interested in playing a controller than a game.🤷

Well MS invested that money and we got one of the best controllers out with 40-50hrs of use out of each charge, and Sony invested a dollar and you get 4hrs use out of them with a light bar you can't turn off., and cows be like i have 2, one on constant charge, so who really is the suckers here lol.

Oh and how do you play a controller without a game? what a dumb argument, go buy a PS4 and get in the game you backseat gamer lol.

And as always, thank you for visiting us from the past.

Plenty of PC games, and Lordy, was the Elite 1 a good controller. As for the Xbox, it plays plenty of games... Exclusives amongst all systems, are minimal.
