I hope that ever xbox 360 user is outraged about this.

http://videogamesrepublic.com/?p=6837

You pay for Xbox Live and get ads on your dashboard? In almost every case that a company uses ads is to make up for providing free services to it's base. Placing ads on the xbox plus collecting a cuts from advertisers only shows how blanetly greedy Microsoft can be.

Let me know what you think.

P.S. This post isn't meant to be breaking news. This is just one more reason why I have issues with Microsoft. I don't hate them, I just whish they pulled business moves that put the customer first.

Im not.

Actually its a very effective and smart way to advertise.

With new inventions like TIVO and the internet, there are bound to be advertisers looking for a new way to advertise while spending the least amount of money.

Using X box LIVE which is a very popular media vechicle is smart. (X box 360 equals the media class)

Wouldn't more ads mean more money to MS, which will probably mean cheaper live fees or live improvements? Just saying...

I'm not mad about it. It's just a good way for MS to make $$$. Nothing wrong with that.

They've been around for quite a while now. This isn't news. Besides, they're not intrusive, so it's a non-issue.

This is what i referred to in my comment. some companies either provide a free service in exchange for ad placements. I've yet to see any indication of MS reducing fees at all. If they do then I'll retract my claim. However, until then it's a really greedy move.

That, the Live Fee and accessory prices, all show their greed (without mentioning Vista and DX10, etc).

I feel that if you notice it or you have to flip through them to get to what you were doing it's being forced. If you pay for a service you shouldn't see ads. That's my point.

It's pretty weird because they're not there all the time. They're suppose to be on the Spotlight section right? But earlier I was scrolling through it and there where no non-game related ads there. Even when they are there it's not that big of a deal. But if these ads because the type that opens up and covers the whole screen that's when I'll have a problem, but I doubt that will ever happen.

um yeah xbox live has been 50 dollars in the US since inception its not gone up at any point infact if your smart you can take advantage of many sales and such around the US for xbox live ive not paid full price for xbox live in 5 years i've paid at most 30 dollars either through some xbox live starter kits i found at good will 5 years ago for 30 dollars (of which i purchased 4) or xbox live year cards at amazon for 30 dollars. 1600 point cards i've found for 15 dollars or less... though i currently have a paid subscription to xbox live till 2011.

It's more like if Starbucks put ads for other companies all over their shops, but still made you pay 6 bucks for coffee.

That's different. An ad displayed on the street is in public space. putting ads on a service you're already paying for in your private space is the problem. That's like starbucks charging you 3 bucks for coffee, then charging you an extra 50 cents for the logo on the cup if you walk outside with it. Also, there's nothing wrong with Starbucks promoting itself. I would be less upset if they were ads for MS products like bing or zune but they are for non game related products like cell phones and who knows what else.

See I personally do not care with the adds because coming from a business standpoint, it was smart to lease out space like that. I am to assume that some of the revune is eing used to "boost" XBL.

Now if the adds became something like what myspace did like adult friend finder or find christian singles, I will a ****

Seems odd that gold users must pay to play online, only to have MS make more money out of them with these ads...

So will we get a proce drop for XBLG with the extra cash now flowing in? No???

Thought not...

On TV we have ads to watch TV for free, so Im guessing MS will give us free games ;)

And I suppose all newspapers should be free. So should magazines.

But seriously. As long as it's not interfering with my gaming experience, they go largely ignored. It's a non-issue.

No one is forced to do anything but the point is that they are there.

then we should hate all advertisment. Oh look at that starbucks ad on the side of the highway how dare they! what you mean i gotta pay money to buy starbucks coffee?! but i looked at your ad on the side of the highway i should get it for free!!!!

Stunningly ignorant post. Let me explain: Starbucks pays money to place their ad on the side of the highway. Then you pay them money to get your coffee.....they don't get money for putting up an advertisement.

Say Starbucks puts an ad up on the Xbox dashboard. They pay Microsoft money to have their advertisement displayed. You pay Microsoft for Xbox Live Gold. When does Starbucks get money? When you buy their coffee....

The point is Microsoft is getting two streams of revenue, the company paying for the advertisements is getting ads displayed on the dashboard, and you are getting absolutely nothing and you have to look the ad square in the face and meet your fanboyism head-on. Which is where all these rationalizations in this thread are coming from....

"I don't have to look at it!" Oh, the lemmings. Watch them march. At least ACT offended so they change their policy.

Yeah I only own a 360 and this bothers me. Its the main reason I never watch tv. I don't like having advertising wasting my precious time. I sold FNR4 because of EA's intrusive advertising in that game and I loved the game. They will continue to push until the majority pushes back. Sad to say it will take awhile it would seem.
