Wasn't the system sold out? They might've sent out a small amount of systems knowing nobody gives a crap about the Xbox in Japan.
Hm when was the last time xbox sold well in Japan? It's a well known fact that the console is not popular there.
Xbox have never sold in japan the 360 broke a million units which is terrible and that's the best its ever got no surprise they release just because they can.
Japan is Xbox's "fastest-growing region worldwide" per Phil so I'm not sure why they apparently decided to ship fewer consoles for launch this time around. Either way, XCloud on mobile is the future of Xbox in Japan; they aren't ever going to move a lot of Xbox consoles.
@NathanDrakeSwag: It released in Japan ages back so I’m certain everyone that wanted to played it, so not sure the point of your weak attempt at trolling
the japanese are fairly patriotic. They will always support their home console and not look twice at the foreign products. Its stupid, because the xbox has a lot of excellent games that cater to the japanese market.
What I don't understand is why people in the west buy the playstation??

People buy Playstation because it has great games and they're not patriotic over a plastic box..

Well, I'd say that the ps5 selling 200,000 units less than the ps4 at launch is bigger news than Xbox selling 3,000 less ... especially since Japan has never been an Xbox stronghold.

That's an odd omission indeed. Xbox is down by ~17% and PS is down by ~74%
Here is the hardware breakdown of the last three PlayStation launches in Japan:
- PS5 - 118,085 units
- PS4 - 322,083 units
- PS3 - 88,443 units
Here is the hardware breakdown of the last three Xbox launches in Japan:
- Xbox Series X|S - 20,534 units
- Xbox One - 23,562 units
- Xbox 360 - 62,135 units
That’s unfortunate. Anyway I just hope that they continue to make enough progress there so that we continue to see a good selection of Japanese developed games on their system.
@blaznwiipspman1: contrary to what you believe, the Japanese are not buying the Xbox brand because it is a foreign brand, it has to do with the brand's image among the Japanese. iPhones sell well in Japan even though it is a foreign product, so the belief that the Japanese buy only their own products is farther from the truth.

Yeah cows are shying away from this lol.

who really knows, maybe its their culture to be playstation buyers. Whatever the case I can understand it. I don't understand why people in the west have that same culture though. Xbox should be selling more consoles than the playstation just based on games and hardware.
Xbox getting ignored in a WHOLE region again. Any Japanese dev or publisher that sells to MS now is asking to be closed down. 🤣

You have to read the entire article. It's because of supply restraints. When Sony launched the PS4 in that region, there were no restraints. Basically, they bought everything they had and I'm sure people are still waiting availability just like everywhere else.
@Random_Matt: If you think about it, there's like 1/5 of their total lifetime sales in Japan compared to Xbox One X/S in just one week....so a semi-win?

That question was asked of him by many in MS. There was a good article a while back where he explained his logic around wanting to maintain some presence in Japan. He freely admitted that many in MS were advising him to pull out of Japan entirely. He also was clear that he did not expect to sell much in h/w.
Yet he still believes it necessary to have a presence, understand what Japanese developers are trying to do, what interests Japanese gamers, etc. I'm sure he is also interested in Xcloud and gamepass potential in the longer run.
Apart from "VGChartz lol" MS need to rethink Japan. They likely spend more shipping than they sell.
VGChartz Japan numbers is fairly accurate compared to the rest of the world because everyone knows the source which is Famitsu, Media Create and probably few others like Oricon.
They already did horrible in japan with the xbox one how could this be worse than that? they didn't even sell 100,00 units in japan with xbox one wtf is going on over there do they know how to appeal to markets?
Wow how many more trips does Phil have to take to japan to guilt them into accepting the Xbone??
I don't think it's a guilt trip. I think he's just paying out the ass for shit like 4 months of next gen Yakuza outside of Japan. A game that didn't even chart for Xbox Series anywhere. 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah... people have no idea what it means to be Patriotic if they think that means that can't buy consoles or TV's from other countries.
You want to be patriotic then support the small businesses and diners that Biden and his crew are trying to put their foot their foot on the throat of and stomp out forever.
Places like MS, Walmart, Amazon, Apple, etc. will be just fine if someone decides to go with a competitor instead...
