It never fails. Every single console that releases has its share of duds. It seems like the Xbox One X is no different. There are reports on several internet forums from frustrated owners of dead Xbox One X consoles, and they all seem to follow the same pattern.

Whether it just affects the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition, or if all the initial models are affected is unknown, but each complaint we've seen so far is the same.

Players have stated via Reddit and ResetEra that they were using their console to play a game and suddenly the Xbox One X shut off. Those with this issue said they've tried turning it back on, changing out cords, and any number of fixes with no results.

They are hopefully still under warranty and Microsoft can't afford this right now on the gaming side of things. Be warned early adopters.

Doesn't seem to be a widespread issue. At least not for now.

Probably all those internals CRAMMED into that tiny casing. Or that "vapor cooling" chamber doesn't seem efficient enough to cool down the system.

That's why I never buy new consoles at launch.

Yeah I remember all the brouhaha when the Switch launched and forums were full of people complaining about launch defects.

Everything electronic that has ever been made has suffered from failures and malfunctions. Best thing to do to reduce the chances of it happening to you is, never buy hardware on launch day.

Given MS's designs and factories, i'd be SHOCKED if this system DIDNT have overheating issues.

So, the problem with this is that these "defects" are typically caused by poor design. Design choices they make to cut costs or simple limitations. So sadly this is an issue that can and often does, affect entire production lines instead of simply being outliers.

That's not always the case. Sometimes it's issues in the manufacturing and not the design. You can have a well designed piece of hardware, but if the quality of the manufacturing for that specific unit was off, then you'll have defects. Manufacturing electronics isn't perfect.

And i didnt say it was always the case did i? I said it was typically the case. The best examples we have, are generally a combination of both manufacturing and poor design. The best example, 360, was both.... but they probably could have gotten away with the manufacturing if they had a better design.

There was a MS releases video showing them swapping out XB1S with XB1X models and not bothering to switch cords. I wondered then if people did this whether it would create issues with power if th e cables weren't rated the same, wonder if some with issues did a full or partial swap. Then again, any new system is bound to have issues to a certain extent. Some complained Switches were melting but I'be no reason to think it is not well made from my experience. Nonetheless, worrisome somewhat, maybe mine might hit an issues the more I play it, hope not

But there's little to no evidence that the issues were caused by design flaws. It could even be a software issue.

It happens with EVERY console launch.

PS4, Pro, XB1, Wii, etc.

Every console has duds, its a part of the assembly line business.

Until it gets to 360, or even PS2 levels.............lets just take a deep breath

For this system i have no idea. But for the 360, PS2 and PS3, yes it was unquestionably design flaws... that's why they changed them.

And no it really couldnt be a software issue, not with the problems that are most common, which is overheating and drives breaking.

I was just watching a video of the X being open and taken apart and it's seem to be a very well thought machine. Hope it's nothing big, but it's usual this kind of news when a system is released. Probably nothing serious.

Launch day... Launch day never changes...

Look forward to some JA posting a compilation video of the 5 people having technical issues... then some dim witted system wars user claims a 'widespread issue'.

This typically happens with every new system launch. As unfortunate as it may be for those affected it generally sounds worse then it is and things eventually get smoothed out.

Same story different launch... you never hear about the working ones only about the broken ones, and this happens with all electronics be it a console and phone or a washing machine.

Every console has these duds, would be pissed though if it happened to me. Getting the lame-o regular version since Discshop didn't inform me about them not even getting these consoles this year.

Got the Project Scorpio edition and it's working perfectly fine for me. Played a few hours of Call of Duty World War II; both online and off. Also, spent some time in Assassins Creed Origins. Everything that gets released no matter if it's a new phone, console, video card, etc. Not everything coming off the line will be perfect.

Well I played yesterday all all day and my XOneX did shut down by itself unexpectedly twice, but only when I did something very specific, which was to dashboard out of a game while it was running. Otherwise, it never happened while in a game.

This thing happened before to me, on the X1S and regular XOne as well, but its a problem that never persisted and vanished on its own. I think it is a safeguard to prevent overheating but I dont know, I'm not worried about it to be honest, I attribute it to new device quirks and hopefully resolves itself over time and probably through patches. The other thing is that I use the Kinect adaptor which draws power, so it could be related to that.

There's never been a hardware launch with perfect results, this is impossible.

Hell my launch PS4 had the wobbling and disc spitting issues.

But yeah, nice damage control thread/trying to bash the X thread.

These issues are not widespread.

This is a pattern with almost every console release. You would think when these companies have enough time to plan for it, they would be able to resolve some of the issues with launch units, but I suppose it involves "testing" from the consumers.

Famous Xbox 360 RRODs because of cheap, rushed soldering
Sony had the weird minor deformities on the PS4 launch plastic casing, causing some units not to sit correctly horizontally
Nintendo had a ton of problems with launch Switch models

Now this... no one should be surprised.
