I'm looking forward to PS5 also to play TLOU2 and GOW, but lets be honest not sure if the PS5 can keep up with the Series X. That OC 9.2 GPU and the under clocked boost mode CPU likely is going to struggle to hit 120FPS in games consistently unless developers make the game at 1080p.

I think PS5 will be more of a 60FPS dynamic 4K machine and maybe 120FPS 1080p machine

I think the Series X will be a 60FPS native 4k machine and a 120FPS 1440p to 4K machine.

I mean, if that's the case, this isn't even bad (unless we begin seeing graphical setting being on Medium from the get go). If i can achieve 2k native resolution in stable 60fps with graphical settings being on High/Ultra, that is excellent.

After a few years I can see the PS5 starting to struggle to continue to achieve high to ultra and will start seeing settings at medium more. I feel like Sony is going to release a PS5 Pro in year 3 of the PS5 cycle. I think Sony will be forced to.

Yes but is it going to be at 1080p? It will be some sort of dynamic for sure.

Nah MS is in much better position going into next gen. MS will take some market share back from Sony. Game Pass is becoming a juggernaut also and most gamers like it.

na I think it will be 4k i mean going from 4 terabytes the pro 4k checker at 30fps/60fps some games to a 10 terabytes with a ssd that is 100x faster than the hdd in the ps4 that is suppose to load in assets while your driving or walking in games. I think 1080p will be in the past next gen unless you have a 1080p tv of course. the ssd would only be 10x faster but some how mark got to run at 100x faster.

@i_own_u_4ever: you guys are really running with 9.2 huh? If Sony says 10.3, it's 10.3. You have to constantly lowball because you know 12 isn't much more than 10.3.

It's 9.2 OC deal with it. It can not sustain at 10.2 it can only boost to that when graphics get intense but it can not stay there for long and will back off to reduce heat and when graphics aren't as intense.

@i_own_u_4ever: You're so ignorant. You don't even understand how variable frequency works. Do research before you embarrass yourself. Sony would've just said it was 9.2 if it was 9.2. They'll sell better than Xbox regardless. Why would they damage control? Xbox only sells decently in North America. That matters because it'll give Playstation more leverage for timed deals and exclusive content, deal with it. Enjoy MS and there AA game pass games this gen.

He's ignorant? Lol.

They didn't say 9.2 because 10.28 looks better. But the 10.28 figure is the peak performance, but it wouldn't be sustained at that (it's variable). In general, fewer cores that are overclocked (PS5) isn't as good as more cores that aren't (XSX)... mainly because of heat etc.

Have a read of this

But hey, whatever makes you feel better :)

In general this can also be a bit misleading. The situation between the two is a bit different regardless of there clock speeds and cores. The sex gpu is just bigger regardless. Say if both consoles landed at the same TF but one was overclocked and the other has more cores but lower clock speeds. Assuming the overclock one sticks near its peak (which ps5 probably does). Things may end up being a bit mute or even in favor of the ps5. The claim for faster rasterization and cache would make more sense in favor of the ps5. The different here sex gpu is just bigger. They would have to crank up the puny ps5 gpu even more to reach the bigger ****.

As soon as they mention the CU count first on that ps5 tech dive Tormo had a heart attack. I remember going holly shit that is punny lol. Basically what I'm trying to say is faster clocks could have been an advantage if theoretical performance between the two was the same. Faster clock vs more core would have been different from these analysis.

4K @ 120 fps, huh?
Yet in the announcement trailer it couldn't even keep consistent 60 fps and the random dips to sub 50's didn't go unnoticed, LMAO...

Where the hell is OP getting this info of the game running at 120FPS at 4K? The only thing that has been "confirmed" 4k @ 60FPS.

@i_own_u_4ever:

Dude, you act like the differences will be near generational. I do expect the differences to be noticeable (on DF analysis anyways), but not a "SeX can hit 60 fps while the ps5 can only do 30 fps" kind of difference.

Just similar how Xbox One (Vanilla) is weaker than PS4 (Vanilla), both run really well on DiRT Rally.

I can predict that Xbox Series X and PS5 will both run DiRT 5 so well on 60 FPS but if it's on Nintendo Switch then it will have terrible frame rate.

@mclarenmaster18: the gap between PS5 and XSX is much smaller than the current generation. PS5 is theoretically 15% slower, while the PS4 was 35-40% faster than XOne. People are setting themselves up for disappointment if they think the difference will be very noticeable.

OP got that from this article: Dirt 5 may be the first Xbox Series X game to run at 120fps and the keyword: "Maybe" and this doesn't support the OP's claimed this is legit cause even the developers don't know if they can reach 120FPS.

Just be happy to hit 60fps at 4K and even for PC gaming thats pushing it at times. Consoles won't be hitting 120fps at 4k, they can get that nonsense out of their head right now. It will take PC gaming a good few years before it even hits that threshold. If they can output 4k at 60fps you will notice a significant difference from 30fps at 1080p.

@mclarenmaster18: Switch in handheld has roughly 360Gflops and 700Gflops in docked using an old Nvidia architecture. For comparison PS4 Pro is 4200 and XOX is 6000Gflops GCN2.1. When you factor in that one RDNA flop is 1.4X GCN and that PS5 has peak 10,300Gflops and XSX has 12,200Gflops. That is roughly 14,400 and 16,800Gflops GCN. So a lot more powerful to sum it up, not including CPU, SSD, and Ram. To sum up Switch in handheld is roughly 40X weaker than PS5 on only the GPU front.

If i do happen to accept the underpowered overclocked 9.2tflop system known as the ps5, and buy it, they better support 2k natively because as far as im aware, they don't even do that on the Pro.

@hardwenzen: Almost every game on the base ps4 runs close to 2k resolution. Why wouldn't the Pro be able to handle that? Majority of games seem to run at 1800p natively on the Pro.

But can it support 1440p natively, as in properly downscaling from 1800p? If i were to play on a 1440p monitor, will my imagine be supersampled from 1800p? I don't think that's a thing on the Pro, but it is a thing on the X.

PS5 GPU has 10,275 TFLOPS, math: 2 x 36 x 64 x 2.23 = 10,275.84 GFLOPS or 10.2758 TFLOPS (variable frequency)

XSX GPU has 12.147 TFLOPS, math: 2 x 52 x 64 x 1.825 = 12,147.2 GFLOPS or 12.1472 TFLOPS (fixed frequency)

In terms of GPU TFLOPS FP32 gap,

X1X vs PS4 Pro = 1.8 TFLOPS

XSX vs PS5 = 1.872

TFLOPS gap magnitude remains similar.

-----

In terms of GPU render target memory bandwidth gap,

X1X vs PS4 Pro = 102‬ GB/s

XSX vs PS5 = 112‬ GB/s

GPU render target gap magitude remains similar.

XBO was an abnormally due to Kinect's cost structures. Without Kinect, XBO's 362 mm2 size chip would have supported ~28 CU class GPU i.e. two Bonaire GPUs.

X1X's 359 mm2 size chip doesn't have Kinect's interference.

XSX's 360 mm2 size chip doesn't have Kinect's interference.

@ronvalencia: it doesn't work that way and I was comparing launch PS4 vs launch Xbox One. Not all 1.8 is created the same. Obviously, if I was comparing something that's rated at 3 and one was rated at 1.5 the difference is large. But if I was comparing something at 100 and 98.5 the difference is very small. Difference is not the same at all and memory bandwidth seems to be a wash.

1. It works for Gears 5's RX 5700 XT vs XSX.

Add 1.25 for 25% extra on RX 5700 XT's 40 fps will land on RTX 2080 class performance. This is confirmed by MS.

XSX's 12.147 TFLOPS / RX 5700 XT's 9.66 TFLOPS average = 1.257

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/asus-radeon-rx-5700-xt-strix-oc/33.html

PC already has ASUS ROG 5700 XT Strix with 10.275 TFLOPS average with 448GB/s memory bandwidth.

2. XBO's mistake wouldn't be repeated, hence XSX's corrective design.

3. In terms of GPU TFLOPS FP32 gap,

X1X vs PS4 Pro = 1.8 TFLOPS

XSX vs PS5 = 1.872

TFLOPS gap magnitude remains similar.

-----

In terms of GPU render target memory bandwidth gap,

X1X vs PS4 Pro = 102‬ GB/s

XSX vs PS5 = 112‬ GB/s

GPU render target gap magnitude remains similar.

MS configured XSX from X1X which shifted by 6.147 TFLOPS increase and 224 GB/s memory bandwidth gain.

Sony configured PS5 from PS4 Pro which shifted by 6.075‬ TFLOPS increase and 224 GB/s memory bandwidth gain.
