Seems like a ripoff compared to Netflix for instance. Netflix costs more and you don't own the programming but you instantly get access to thousands of movies and tv shows. To try to be fair though lets just compare the new July offerings from both services. Please note that access to all PS + content requires the purchase of about a $1,000 worth of hardware.

Comparing the value of movies to the value of games is wrong. Games are interactive, far more replayable. and are usually much longer experiences compared to movies.

Not to mention that Netflix is a single note service while ps plus also offers discounts and cloud storage.

I don't see any good movies listed here besides Patton, Bad Santa, City of God and maybe the first Karate Kid. LOL

That's Netflix's problem. Half of their movie catalogue consists of a bunch of terrible, low budget shit that no one has ever heard of then when you finally find something good...it disappears after a couple of weeks.

They no longer have South Park episodes, Married with Children episodes, etc.

It's turned into a total shit service over the last 3-4 years.

Amazon instant video offers all of the same stuff for the same price with the added benefit of Amazon Prime free 2 day shipping.

A lot of those movies are very highly rated. Especially Basic Instinct, Croupier, Crimson Tide, Hunt for Red October.

Dead Space 3 is the only game on the PS Plus list that interests me and I'd rather play it on pc at 1080p 60fps.

You don't need high budgets to make great films. Name one service that has only great films anyway. Do cable channels not remove programming to make place for other programming?

South Park gets removed and in it's place they add something like the entire series of Dexter.

Netflix gets the nod in this review http://www.tomsguide.com/us/netflix-amazon-face-off,news-17838.html

They're both stupid

I love when console fanboys talk about how expensive it is to game on PC, but then you're all so willing and eager to pay for stupid subscription shit like PS+ or XBOX Live on top of your normal cable and internet bill. Not to mention paying an extra $10-20 for new releases.

Console gamers get nickeled and dimed constantly and seemingly have no problem with it.

And now they're going to pay for internet, XBOX Live Gold, AND some silly ass EA subscription...just to play games online.

Lolz

how is $40-$50 a year a rip off when we get tons of games and deep discounts too? my subscription always pays for itself and more.

$50 for games you may not even like. At least on pc with all the sales you could get 10 games that you really wanted to play for $50.

I'm not even subscribed right now and have no plans to do so any time soon. I don't care about game rentals (calling it what it is) and I prefer to play online multiplayer games on Xbox Live, so I only subscribe to Xbox Live. It would take a few really great multiplayer games that are exclusive to PlayStation to get me to subscribe to PlayStation Plus.

Yes. I would because I subscribed to PS+ way before the PS4 ever was announced (online MP required for PS4).

It's fantastic deal and the value has only increased with the PS4 as I've gotten 12+ games from PS+ on PS4 alone (In comparison, the more expensive Xbox Live Gold has netted users with only 3 games so far to date). My PS3 and Vita get the most use out of PS+ due to their libraries being far larger.

My favorite part of PS+ isn't the games they give, but the PS+ discounts. I got so many fantastic games for $1. It's amazing. yes, I also game on PC, Xbox, and Nintendo, but a deal is a deal.

I'm looking forward to this months (AUG) PS+ offerings on all three platforms:

VITA (4 Games)

4 free PS+ August Metascores =

  1. Metrico (Brand new game by Sony, no metascore)
  2. FEZ (91/100)
  3. Proteus (80/10)
  4. Dragon's Crown (82/100)
  5. (LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 instead of DC for Europe)

PS3 (4 Games)

4 free PS+ August Metascores =

  1. FEZ (91/100)
  2. Crysis 3 (77/100)
  3. Dragon's Crown (82/100)
  4. Proteus (80/10)

PS4 (2 Games)

2 free PS+ August Metascores =

  1. Road Not Taken (Brand new game by Spry Fox, no metascore)
  2. FEZ (91/100)

No, but not because I don't think it is worth it. Just not worth it to me...right now. I have way too many PC games to work my way through to be able to play the free games I would get with PS+. That is the main reason holding me back from buying a PS4 right now. I just wouldn't have the time to play it.

Of course they can be compared.

$80 worth of games vs $200 worth of rentals. Not just movies, Netflix also has seasons of tv shows. Hemlock grove and Knights of Sidonia are 10 or more hours of content each.

The games that you'll find to be replayable aren't usually the ones you'll wait on maybe never even making it to the PS + list.

If I owned a Vita I'd probably subscribe.

It seems like the entire Vita library has already been cycled through PS+ at least once. Spend $50 to have access to the whole library? Cool.

They still both offer the same service which is entertainment.

i have watched both seasons of 'Orange is the new Black' and 'House of Cards' TWICE!

now add all the hours in those seasons up and multiply them by 2.

that sounds replayable to me.

it also sounds like a value to me.

i have watched 'Casino' at least 100 times and i can still come home after a long day and still be entertained by it just as much as the first time i seen it.

sure, video games and movies/tv shows are different forms of entertainment but they are still entertainment nonetheless.

Yup still got my PS3 you see. I fell that behind and built up such a backlog with my limited time that i essentially live in 2013 for games at the moment. This makes PS+ perfect as it just drops a new game right into the queue.

It's pretty crazy value given the amount of games i play through it in a year.

Video games are a more luxurious hobby compared to movies. It's fine if you get more value of entertainment out of movies, but that doesn't change the fact that video games are generally more expensive and hold different standards.

My PS+ ran out a few months ago and I have not seen anything to give me a reason to get it again. I have a PS3 and PS4 but the games they are renting out are not that good. Take this month for example the best game imo is Crysis 3 but I bought that on PC and could not even finish it so no reason to be interested in playing on console. I have actually liked what Xbox has offered more lately and you get to keep those.

Either way you slice it Netflix gives you more bang for your buck than PS +. 6 cheap games isn't more expensive than 100 movies. Like i said before, the games you're likely to want to replay aren't the games you'll be waiting for to possibly show up on PS +

I can say the same for movies. If I really want to see a specific movie, I will likely see it in the theater or rent a blu ray for higher quality. I'm not going to wait for its netflix release that will likely only last a month.

I honestly can't see the arguement here because games and movies are fundamentally different. I can subscribe to kindle unlimited for $10 a month and gain access to hundreds of thousands of unique book titles. That would easily destroy the money value of Netflix and PS+ together. However, it wouldn't matter to me considering I'm not a heavy reader.

I believe that you trying to argue quantity, but that just doesn't work for two very different hobbies.

Already totally worth it just for free/subscription PS3-Vita games. Online play isn't even a factor for me.

If it were only for PS4, I probably wouldn't even bother subscribing at this point in time.

You can say the same for movies ok then that nullifies your point on replayability.

That kindle deal is really no better than netflix. An entire book probably costs less to produce than the average tv show. That 1 book could take 12 hours to read while in 12 hours you could watch a season of Dexter which costs about 100x the money to produce.

Quality can be subjective but quantity cannot. Netflix is giving original shows on top of all the other shows and movies. What does PS + offer besides budget games and aaa games that came out 3 years ago?

Will never get PS+ again. Got it this year for free and still feel ripped off. Step your game up Sony.

I don't see any good movies listed here besides Patton, Bad Santa, City of God and maybe the first Karate Kid. LOL

"Boyz n the Hood" is a great movie.

It should be required to watch.

The answer for most people is no. the PS3 sold 80 million consoles and yet had less then 2 million PSN+ subscribers. The PS4 has sold roughly 8-10 million and has about 4-5 million PSN+ subscribers. In other words, most people didn't care about the free games, and mind you the PS3 free games are way way better then the PS4 ones.

most people i know are ignorant. With the ps3 they never got ps plus even hen i told them the games they got with the membership. Low and behold the ps4 comes along and makes them get plus and they say oh my god i didn't know you got free games with plus. Its not marketed well and people are idiots alot of people really dont understand it.
