I'd rather spend the 500 dollars on my PC getting an upgrade, I would get more bang for my buck. Wouldn't even need to spend all of it so I could actually buy some games with that money, too. That's assuming budget is the same.
Obviously a brand new PC would be slightly more expensive (not thousands of dollars more expensive, I still don't know where you guys get the idea that a gaming PC cost more than 1500 dollars), but even then I'd rather take that 500 dollars, put it away, and save for a few months and get a new PC than an X1X.
I'd save more in the long run, and have a better quality-of-life experience: cheaper games, more games, more free games, more diversity, higher quality games, more indie content, greater community diversity (though admittedly smaller communities), and more options.

Already have a great PC.
Would still rather upgrade my PC or get a new one.
X1X just doesn't have any appeal to me.
Yup.
And with most of the games on Xbox coming to Windows now, what's the point (if you have a solid PC, that is)?
Honestly, if you have a desktop from the last four years, just drop a 300+ dollar video card in there and chances are it's already as good (if not better) than an X1X. That's honestly the best way to get started with PC gaming; take that PoS namebrand media computer you got for school work and stuff that has a good processor and memory and just put a video card in it.
Though I imagine most people these days have laptops.
