I may be one of the few people who actually enjoy the 3D feature on my 3DS. The games look cooler because of it. I would be interested in a 3D variant with Switch, but I imagine it will be more expensive. Maybe there are other features Nintendo should consider as well? What do you think, SW?

Likewise. Even with the original launch 3DS I managed to understand finding the right sweet-spot early on and I loved playing it all the time with 3D on, and then when I upgraded to the New 3DS XL they fixed the flaws very much.

With that said, nah. I don't think it's necessary for the Switch. Let the 3DS be its own thing.

No, i always used 3D at its lowest because games looked more crisp but a lot of games had terrible performance using it. Most people don't give a shit about the 3D and always had it turned off. That's why Nintendo didn't bother with the latest versions of the handheld, It was just a gimmick at the time that didn't take off.

No one wants it, it will cost more and impact performance.

I don't really want 3d on my switch but I would like HD resolutions on my 3DS. with that said Nintendo does look like they intend on doing tons of porting for the switch.

I really use the 3DS 3D features a lot in the past, it mainly depends on the game that benefits using 3D mode. I didn't mind sacrificing performance only because I always see Handheld games can get away with it and as for Switch having 3D feature, sure why not. As long as it's optional, I say go for it Nintendo.

No. 3D was a gimmick, like VR and motion controls.

If they want to create a redesign with 3D for people who like it, that's fine with me personally. However, 3D never worked as selling point for the 3DS, which is evident by Nintendo downplaying it heavily throughout a significant portion of the handheld's life. Now they want you to buy 2DS's, and big games like Pokemon don't have 3D at all.

I seriously doubt Nintendo would go down that road again, and I'm fine with that because I never used the feature.

No not really. I thought that the 3D feature of the 3DS was pretty cool at first however I quickly became disinterested in it. Personally if they could have beefed up something else spec wise in the system by sacrificing the 3D feature then I would prefer that they had done that instead.

I liked the 3D effect on the 3DS, but if it would lower the quality of the screen I don’t want it on Switch.

It would be cool.. but I'm not sure I'd want to pay more for it. Having it on also craves more power, and I'm not sure if it would work with Switch. It would also drain the battery a lot more which already runs out fast.

I think the 3d gimmick at Nintendo is dead again. Only way I see it coming back is if Nintendo decides to pursue AR or VR or holotech in the future.

Many people called 3D a gimmick but on certain games e.g. Samus Returns it looks great.

But it would probably skyrocket an already very expensive device.

Sure 3D would be nice, but I'd rather see them going more into the VR realm like with the Labo robot headset.

Erm No!...unnecessary... instead of wasting time/money on that..make a higher spec Switch - faster cpu & faster gpu...I'd prefer this over 3D effects. :P

No, I find most devs still can't layer the depth of the UI or dialog bubbles and such around the action and often find I have to adjust my focus from closer depth to further depth focus to the point it's annoying.

Pretty much everyone I spoke with regarding the 3DS said the feature was interesting but either made them feel sick or distracted and they all to a man switched it off after a relatively short time.

Waste of money and time.

Few games would be able to support it, because the image needs to be rendered twice. Small indie games would be fine, but you couldn't run Zelda or Mario with those graphics twice over.

Nope. I did not like the 3D at all and most of the time turned it off.

No.

The hardware revisions you'd need to make it work would be a problem I'd think. The 3DS achieves it's 3D effects using two screens within eachother. It also has a custom graphics processor capable of rendering these two displays at once (which means you'd probably need a GPU with some extended capabilities and more muscle behind it). Then you have the hurdle of displaying your 3D games on a TV that doesn't support the architecture involved. It would be a mess, actually.

I think 3D should remain on dedicated devices (such as pure handhelds) with the technical endowments to make it work. This is one of the reasons why the 3DS still has a place in the industry.
