Worst console ever made?

What do you think is the worst console ever made?

I think it's the Wii U. I know that, if you ask me, I still don't fully understand the Wii U. It sounds like an add-on to the original Wii, and it was certainly never explained in commercials. The controller was confusing. Wii U also had a poor game selection. The intention of the Wii U was just not clear.

As cool as the Dreamcast is, one could argue it failed.

Not sure why your name dropping the Dreamcast. It definitely failed. It knocked Sega out of the console market which still doesn't make sense to me. I mean, they make arcade cabinets but then I suppose it's a different and dead market, Namco don't make consoles, but SNK did... Maybe this is off topic.

WiiU is decent but Nintendo were too greedy with licensing so it got no games. The idea was to have you moving your eyes from one screen to another as in the DS handhelds and it remains a stupid idea. Or at least an idea nobody figured out how to use and expend half their r&d budget on.

The worst console for me isn't an old 70's one because that's too easy. I would say the Jaguar because it represent Atari's exit from the console race just by poor management. Arguably the exact Same problem Sega had which is not having their sh*t in order like Nintendo mostly do. Nintendo have a cash surplus of billions whilst MS, Sony and Sega regularly go into debt.

The Jaguar had good engineers but they were hamstrung and the console was rushed. Atari couldn't get it together with a good library and it ended up a laughing stock and was the final Straw for Atari.

EDIT: Another console that bankrupt a company was Commodore's CD-32. Much worse than the Jaguar but a more predictable failure as they were never a console company anyway.

Xbox One.

Almost no exclusives, inferior mulitplats, superior version of the pathetic line up of exclusives are on PC, shit UI, overpriced, ugly VCR casing,...

The ps2. It was weak, had horrible online, and for my tastes - terrible games. For fans of western gaming, it was underrepresented. Although Socom was good. But that’s about it.

The Wii U, Game Cube, Xbox One.

Wii U - No Games, some barren month can strech up to 5 month

Game Cube - Ps2 exist and best zelda game is on ps2 (OKAMI)

Xbox One - Great services with many multiplats but damn there nothing to entice anyone buying the thing other than as 4k player

@jackamomo: Sega died in the console market because of a terrible reputation. Sega CD and the 32X were total flops, and the Saturn didn't even get a Sonic game before it was discontinued while N64 and the PlayStation were putting out games.

Sega CDX is the worst imo. It was a combo of the Genesis, CD and not the 32X. It costed 100$ more than jusr buying the consoles separately

Probably the Panasonic 3DO or the Atari Jaguar. Those things went from top shelf to bargain bin real fast.

As far as the “worst” console that was actually relevant. I have to go with the original Xbox. Don’t get me wrong. It had some great games. However it paved the way for paid online, which has been a plague on console gaming.

Not a console but Mega CD and X32 not only because they sucked but because the damage it cause to Sega.

PS2 was pretty bad. most of PS2 games had camera and control issues and were far inferior to PC games of that era.

when splinter cell introduced. it killed MGS series.

Of the mainstream consoles, quite possibly, although I would think the Philips CD-I was poorer, or perhaps the Commodore's repackaged as pure gaming machines (CD32) which both seemed to be showers of shite.

Phillips CDI is confirmed to be one of the worst consoles ever made.

I'll also say the Philips CD-I. I remember this guy in my neighborhood having one when I was young, and it had this crappy golf game on it. I knew right then that this was not the way video games should be played.

Anybody that lists any console made by Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, or Sega is wrong either due to bias or ignorance. Even the worst consoles produced by the Big 4 are still far better than some of the garbage consoles that have been produced by other companies; it's just that most people have never touched or even heard of some of the truly bad consoles that have existed.

The worst that I can think of is the Philips CD-i, but the list of consoles that have existed is a very long one and most of us don't know anything about most of the truly bad ones, so there is a good chance that there is something even crappier out there.

Now if you want to ignore all of the truly bad consoles and just limit this discussion to the consoles from the Big 4 of Nintendo, Sega, Microsoft, and Sony then I would say that I have been able to find enough value in every console ever produced by Nintendo, Sega, Microsoft, and Sony to be content with purchasing them except for the PS4. The PS4 has no exclusives anymore that appeal to me and I prefer to play multiplats on other platforms, so therefore it has no value to me which makes it the worst console ever from one of the Big 4 for my taste, but it's definitely not as bad as truly garbage consoles like the Philips CD-i.

CDI was bad, but I think apple Pippin was worse.

No question in my mind... CDi followed by Virtual Boy.
