It's hard to say.

1. Alot of ps2 owners bought multiple ps2's because they broke. Nintendo always has quality hardware that last forever.

2. With alot of casuals jumping onboard the Wii the popularity is getting insane. It's becoming a pop culture icon and developers are taking notice which means more good games for us hardcore.

no possible way becuase PS2's hardware was comparable to xbox and GC so they could keep up with it the wii can't keep up with 360 and PS3 for 6-7 years like PS2. that is unless their is a wii 2 that at least close to 360 and PS3's hardware

No, because even though gaming industry grows more and more popular every year, the wii or any current next-gen console will hold over 70% of the marketshare throughout the system's lifespan like Ps2 did. Nowadays with all of them having their strengths and weaknesses it will be a more evenly spread marketshare with wii holding the majority for most if not all of its lifespan.

YOu do not get it. Hardware power has little to do with it. The Wii itself is perfectly capable for the market it's in. You fanboys can't get that through your head.

It will depend on a lot of things... Quality of hardware in comparison to PS2, software... The PS2 had a 7 year life span while the Wii will have a 4 to 5 year life span... I don't know.. I doubt it, but we'll see.

IMO it's almost certain. Nintendo is expanding the industry and appealing to casuals even more than the PS2 did. Also I don't think the PS2 breakages really had that big an effect on the sales.chutup

That's pretty much a Nintendo lie. They aren't expanding anything but just snacking off PS2's install base.

The Wii is the juggernaut and a force to be reckon with. It will definately crush PS2 sales in it's life time right after the 360.

You read the article yourself. What he is using as a basis doesn't have any solid proof behind it period. And even if it was true 10% of the Wii's instal base being new to the market isn't bad at all.

it depends on how long its out for. If its out for 6 years it could happen otherwise probably not.

The DS on the other hand looks like it could break 150million before they decommission it.

no YOU don't get it in all that time PS3 and 360 will only get cheaper and cause nitendo likes to make money they won't decrease the wii price for awhile no in 2-3 year the 360 and PS3 could only be a couple dollars away from each other now what would you rather have a system with motion controlling and a console hi end console that gives you HD(which is becoming more and more popular? the think is wii will have to stay in competition with PS3 and 360 for another 5-6 year if it hopes get 100 million consoles sold and with it's hardware i don't think people will want a wii when they see PS3/360 giving you more for only for alittle more. wii is competeing with PS3 and 360 so it HAS to be compared with PS3 and 360's hardware

I believe that the Wii and DS will be the number 1 and 2 selling systems of all time at the end of this generation. They're both already on a faster pace than the PS2, with the Wii's biggest titles still on the way. Galaxy, Brawl, Wii Fit, and Mario Kart will push Wii demand to insane levels. Brain Age 2 and Phantom Hourglass will do the same for the DS once they're released outside of Japan.

SO going by 10% of wii bring in new gamers

over 100 million ps2's sold

about 30 million ps2's

over 26 million xbox's

10% of that number is 15 million. Yeah thats a good number.

I think the DS might, but it seems the Wii is at the height of it's popularity, and will end up going downhill from here. There's a chance they'll release a Wii-lite to surge sales, but there's really not enough that can be fixed for the Wii w/out allienating the original fanbase. Hence Wii sales will slowly go down meaning it doesn't have much of a chance in selling 120 million units.

How do you figure that? Sequels to the top 3 selling Gamecube games (Brawl, Galaxy, Mario Kart) are just around the corner, and more expanded audience games like WiiFit, and WiiMusic are on the way. The console is still sold out world-wide almost 9 months after launch, with its biggest guns still on the way.

I think that's a ridiculous statement.

It could happen, but it would take many years of solid sales for the Wii. The PS2 is still selling okay to this date.

It passed 120 million last month, the wii or DS will not sell more than Ps2. The DS is at about 48 Million right now, I think they will pass Gb (67 Million) and GBA(80 Million) and stop at about 95-100 million. Like I said on my post on page 2 the Wii will never have an extremely high portion of the console marketshare for a significant amount of time like the ps2 did( over 70% of marketshare in about 95% of its lifespan.) The ps3 and Xbox 360 are too competitive this generation to have a clear winner like last gen. Also more people are playing games on PC and not opting to buy a console. It will probably be 3 to 4 years till a clear winner can be predicted.

no soon people will realize that the wii is a fad and wont buy it anymore

My score predictions:

MGS4-10 Mass Efect: 6.5

FF thirteen: 9.5 Super smash .bro.s.- 7.5

Halo 3: 7.5 Metroid prim 3: 6.5

quote me on any of these. powning n00bs since 1993N00bSlaiyer3000

I'd like to make two points. Firstly clearly you are a enthusiast and a sony one at that. The wii is aimed at the general public not people willing to spend £420 on a ps3. Its no more of a fad than the ipod.... It seems to be becoming an icon and i think it will get many more casual gamers into the industory which is good. That is why it could eventually outsell ps2.

On your sig.... Clearly you are a sony fan boy as while mgs4 and ff 13 are great games so are mass effect, smash brothers, halo 3, and metroid prime. Just because those are system sellers for their respective consoles and ps3 doesnt mean that they are bad. Infact ill bet you £100 that those games get more than what you expect by miles. All 8's and 9's.

Pawning noobs... thats just funny seeing as you are behaving like one.

i say no. It won't last in the US. The PS2 was well rounded and suited all demographs with enough staying power to last a lifetime, as seen in its current sales charts. The wii will probably get to around 80 mil, but no higher.

Currently with the lack of to die for games that the Wii has, I have a hard time seeing it achieve this. Plus the PS2 is still selling a couple of millions per year so it will be very difficult. The DS seems interesting though, that's one that could possibly match the same record at least.

IF sales and the level of hype surrounding the console stay at their current level, or near it, then I could see it (potentially) reaching the 100 million + level in its lifetime. But who can really tell?

I expect the Wii to come close, or to surpass the previous Nintendo home-console sales record of 60 million, set by the NES.
