I'm gonna say no. In today's market, mobile takes such a huge share. Don't know how many more people want a Switch.

Really just depends on how long it stays on market. But I will say no, because Nintendo will never be able to lower its price, and that's mostly because Nvidia won't let them.

I honestly don't care, but it seems the more something sells the more enjoyment people on here get out of it, weird.

The PS2 was at 71M after 4 years. So Switch is outpacing. But the PS2 had legs. Depends whether the Switch has as much longevity as the PS2, or DS.

I'm not voting in the poll because I don't think it'll match PS2 (I don't think anything ever will since PS2 really took about 12 years to get there), but I don't believe that Switch is a "fading star." It'll manage a solid 120-130 million in the end, maybe even beyond depending on how it's supported in its twilight years.

I feel like you people have been saying this for the past 4 years. Let it go. It's obvious at this point that the mobile market has no effect on Switch. Desperately hoping that it'll suddenly fall of a cliff out of nowhere is getting pathetic at this point.

Eventually a system will outsell the PS2. It's simply a matter of keeping the system on the market long enough. Switch would make sense given the popularity and the portability... more than one easily being in a single home. I believe Switch will outsell the Wii becoming the best selling Nintendo.

Will it beat PS2? Time will tell.

I didn't vote cause I don't agree that the Switch is a fading star. It is an amazing system and will keep selling strong. I just don't think it will match the PS2 though. The sales of that system are insane.

The thing is that PS3 being so expensive and not doing well out of the gate played a huge factor in PS2 lasting so long, as did the fact that it kept getting sports games. Switch isn't getting sports games even as an active console. It'll fall off once it has a full-on successor. PS4 has a much better chance of getting there, but that's already starting to slow down.

I’m going to say no, as well. 158 million sounds like a humongous number. But the Switch will do well. No need to worry lol.

@Jag85: The PS2 was also selling for like $99 for years. The market is way too crowded in this day and age for a 150M+ seller.

Theoretically speaking. If Nintendo cuts the price of the regular Switch to $249.99 and the Lite down to $149.99 for Black Friday of 2022, I can see it getting a boost. If they slash the price of the regular Switch down to $199.99 and the Switch Lite to $99.99, plus a brand new 2D Mario in 2024 without releasing a Switch 2. I can totally see it reaching 150+ million sold.

Hard to imagine a system outselling the PS2 (and DS) but I have a feeling Switch will at the very least come close, maybe around 140 million. I'm kinda rooting for the Switch to continue selling well because I really want gaming handhelds to stay. Although even with the current numbers a full-blown handheld successor is pretty much guaranteed I think.

I wouldn't really call the switch a handheld when most people are never going to leave their homes with on. Handheld gaming has been replaced with phones and I doubt that will ever reverse.

Nah. The Switch will have to sell 2x more than it currently has. Sounds very unlikely to me, people will be bored of it way earlier than that. And I don't think Switch 2 is too far away. Ain't nobody got time for Switch after that.

I did not vote on this silly poll, but does it really matter whether the Switch outsells the PS2 in sales or not? My enjoyment of the hybrid console does not depend on how many units it sells worldwide or whether it will break any sales records. I rather not ignore the forest for the trees.

It really doesn’t matter if it does or not, the switch is such a great console. Now what I find embarrassing is the switch outselling the total xb1/x in the first month of release of the switch. Now that just shows you how bad the Xbox was selling last gen .

IMO, no. The reason not being the Switch itself but Nintendo being premature with ending its sale. Hopefully I am wrong but I expect to see the same as we saw a few years into the Wii when it was going strong and had legs yet Nintendo stopped support for the upcoming Wii U and 3DS.

Doubtful since a switch 2 has been rumored to be right around the corner for a while now... also the PS2 abnormal sales was mostly due to it being sold as a cheap DVD player for quite some years..

I would be completely surprised if a Switch 2 is made at all, and there's a few reasons for it.

First, the switch has only been out for about 3 1/2 years, it's way too early to expect people to buy a new piece of hardware and I wouldn't expect them to announce a successor to the Switch for probably another 2 years.

Secondly, I doubt there will be a "pro" version because pro versions of consoles are largely a cash grab. Developers themselves say no game on any platform is going to be developed for the pro version of any console, but rather for the version over 80 million people already own. If there's a benefit to frame rates, that's a side effect, and Switch games do have their frames locked.

Another reason is Nintendo isn't even taking full advantage of the Switch hardware as it is. Luigi's Mansion looked great but games like BOTW, Mario Kart 8, etc are still using Wii-U graphics.

And lastly, it doesn't make financial sense to put up the kind of money to develop, produce, and market a new version to replace what is out now when what is out now is still selling at an enormous rate. There's very little chance of seeing enough of an increase in sales to justify the investment in new hardware that's doing as well as the current Switch is. So it'd be a poor financial decision on Nintendo's part to do so.

If a Switch 2 or Pro doesn't come out in the next 2 years I think yes. And I'm not counting a Switch Pro with Total Switch sales IF there are exclusive Pro games on it

Switch 2 is not coming out before 2023. Probably 2024 or 2025.

What matter is how Nintendo counts it, not you. They count GBC in GB sales, DSi in DS sales, and New 3DS in 3DS sales even though those each have exclusive games to some degree. In fact, I think there's a game or that can't be played on Switch Lite.

Can't see it happen. The gaming market is so diverse now. But it will react 100+ million though.

PS2 had a much more constant supply of fresh games I think.
