Poll: Will Ridge Racer be more suitable than Forza/Gran Turismo for Xbox Scarlett/Playstation 5's launch lineup? (11 votes)

Yes! I want Ridge Racer series back! 64%
No! I want something else! 36%

Dear racing fans in System Wars board

In my previous thread Why I think Forza Motorsport 8 and Gran Turismo 7 shouldn't be part of Xbox Scarlett/PS5's launch lineup?

The reason why I don't want Forza Motorsport 8 and Gran Turismo 7 as part of next generation console launch line up because I have a feeling that they will be using a new engine meaning that they may have to remake assets from scratch such as:

  • Cars
  • Tracks
  • Crowds
  • Weather effects
  • etc.

To have higher polygons and texture resolution than their current gen counterparts, also I wanted them both (Turn 10 & Polyphony Digital) to improve their driving physics to feel closer to real life counterpart.

Plus I reckon Namco should bring their arcade racer; Ridge Racer back to home consoles since I missed the franchise so much!

Since each start of a console era at least they have a Ridge Racer:

  • Ridge Racer (1994) for Playstation 1 (5th Generation console era)
  • Ridge Racer 5 (2000) for Playstation 2 (6th Generation console era)
  • Ridge Racer DS (2004) for Nintendo DS (7th Generation console era)
  • Ridge Racers (2004) for Playstation Portable (7th Generation console era)
  • Ridge Racer 6 (2005) for Xbox 360 (7th Generation console era)
  • Ridge Racer 7 (2006) for Playstation 3 (7th Generation console era)
  • Ridge Racer 3D (2011) for Nintendo 3DS (8th Generation console era)
  • Ridge Racer (2011) for Playstation Vita (8th Generation console era)

But why no Ridge Racer for Xbox One and Playstation 4?

No Ridge Racer was shit back in the day and is still shit now. the only decent Ridge Racer game came from Bugbear in Ridge Racer Unbounded.

@MclarenMaster18 Will they really use an entirely new engine or probably improve the existing one? Either way, they do not need to start from scratch.

I think I read (correct me if I am wrong), Uncharted 4 was not on a brand new engine, I think they updated their old engine and the game looked great.

But yes, I would welcome a new Ridge Racer. The 3DS Ridge Racer was excellent, it had most of the old tracks and the 3D-ness of it was pretty cool.

Ridge Racer was always a low budget arcade port to launch consoles.

The series never had any meat to them. These types of games have no content and gamers won’t buy them in today’s current world.

It’s why we never got a PS4/Xbone version. Standards are too high.

Only the first Ridge Racer on PS1 was the arcade port.

But for Ridge Racer PSP, 6 (360), 7 (PS3) and 3D (3DS) are not arcade ports so look them up again.

@boxrekt:

I remember Kaz Hirai the man who brought up to show something retro rather than future during Sony's conference at E3 2006.

In this footage he was showcasing the PSP emulating Ridge Racer (1994) then the crowds were very disappointed afterwards.

I’d love to see a new Ridge Racer come out at launch on the Xbox Scarlett. I’d also love to have Forza Motorsport 8 at launch as well.

Well hopefully Forza Motorsport 8 won't end up like Forza Motorsport 5.

Each time I listen to One More Win from Ridge Racer Type 4 soundtrack, this makes me keep wishing for a new Ridge Racer.

Always was a big fan of racing games but I found RR quite underwhelming.

To me Project Gotham Racing and Motorstorm are still more fun than Wipeout IMO.

So what can you think of besides Ridge Racer?

I would say PGR but really, Forza Horizon IP has me covered for that kind of thing.

Diddy Kong Racing 2 is something I've wanted to see forever tho.

Does anybody remeber the more realistic spinoff Rage Racer, it had a clutch feature for manual cars.

Actually that's R: Racing Evolution, not Rage Racer.
