Poll Will an all streaming future kill Microtransactions? (28 votes)

Yes 4%
No( I'm a sucker and will pay for MT's with my monthly service) 39%
We will never go to streaming only! 57%

I got to thinking, many analysts think that eventually ( maybe 10 or even 20 years from now) that streaming services will be the future for game companies. For an example after PS5 and Xbox Scarlett it will be PS Now vs XB Gamepass. Do you think this will happen?

I personally don't think it will happen and here's why. One it would eliminate microtransactions. This would be the only positive aspect of an all streaming future. But I don't see people paying a monthly service to play games and then buying add ons for something they don't own. For that reason I think a local option will always exist.

Your thoughts?

I don't see how that would get rid of microtransactions.

If anything the full control of content delivered will make practices more predatory.

Probably sitting in a room laying the ground-work right now for the seediest self-serving shit they can come up with.

I don't intend to ever see an all futuristic game streaming will ditch microtransactions at all. I get this is "what if" well if you look at it, companies will still find a way to cut out content and will try to turn it into lootbox/microtransactions. DLC is one thing, but not for microtransactions.

@davillain-: If the consumer doesn't pay for it though it won't last. The question is do you think the consumer will buy into this crap?

The shareholders demand additional $100 million in year-on-year profit, while people like Strauss Zelnick, Bobby Kotick and Andrew Wilson need their spare gold-plated toilet seats in case someone spill their champagne on them.

So no, even if streaming takes off, microtransactions would stay.

I sure as hell hope gaming never turns into a streaming only thing but if it does I’m sure companies will still find ways to put micro transactions in there.

Not only will we not go streaming only, but even if we did we would still have microtransactions.

Especially since it would almost certainly mean no competition from the modding scene. And even more control from the publishers.

Some games (MMORPGs) already have a monthly subscription combined with microtransactions.

Regardless of what you see, people would most probably still do that.

Also, your poll options suck.

Microtranstions will be in games forever.

Even in streaming games. Money money money is all they want.

Depends if they offer it as inclusive or additional.

Hopefully they do it like the Uplay+ model and make any subscribed to or streamed games the "ultimate" edition by default, and include the DLC.

Wow those are some loaded poll options. I guess I won't vote.

I don't spend money on microtransactions. Hell I typically don't even play games that include them because it's usually more regurgitated AAA garbage. Those games don't offer anything interesting and only serve as a way for suckers to spend their money on the same boring shit we get over and over again. AAA market is 90% shit and the most interesting experiences come from smaller studios who are still passionate about making games - those not controlled by a larger entity who only cares about making money.

Streaming will not have an effect on these predatory practices. The AAA industry will continue to inch forward until there is a substantial push back from consumers, which is unlikely.

Steaming will be super popular though.

Hell no. All of these plans and tactics are to make it easier to get money out of people. It's only gonna get worse.

@LJS9502_basic: Its actually very basic. If you're paying $15 a month for uPlay+ it comes with everything for every game. Basically Microsoft shifted their games the same, like Geasr 5 is good to go. It destroys the bad micro-transactions cause your're paying the ultimate transaction, however uPlay+ is just PC, so until on everything and most gamers paying the monthly, they won't stop the expansions.

However, I do imagine for online games, cosmetics will never go away and through them battle passes. And of course, EA does same plans but refuses to give you every last Sims expansion with their Origin Premium, but Sims 4 is an extreme oddity, even by EA standards, they invented micro-expansions for it.

I doubt Take Two, Blizzard, Nintendo or EA will ever give up their greedy cash grabbing, so terrible practices will be for a long time.

Why in the hell would streaming eliminate microtransactions? On that note however, I hope to never see a purely streaming only future in gaming.

Haha... No... No... Whilst streaming or offering a monthly subscription for access to downloadable games (ultimate versions for the most part,) companies are still gonna find a way to monetize that shit.

What? Streaming is just an alternative method of playing games and has absolutely NOTHING to do with micro-transactions. Do you even know how micro-transactions work?

@Litchie: Hey if you want to be a sucker then go ahead.

If you (for some reason I don't understand) think I'm paying for any mtx, you're wrong. I find them to be extremely overpriced and unnecessary for enjoying games. And if they are necessary for enjoying a game, or if I feel like they've put a paywall on something that should be free, I simply ignore the game and find something else to play.

And your poll options..

If you vote "yes" - You're an idiot, plain and simple.
"No", would be the correct answer, but you had to add "I'm a sucker that pays for mtx" to it. I guess that's your way to keep people from voting "no" and force people to agree with your dumb shit, or something?
And lastly if you vote "we will never go streaming only", I'd like to borrow your time machine.

This thread is dumb as hell.

@Litchie: Then get the **** out of it and move along? It's a system Wars thread where everyday people make predictions. You seem to vastly underestimate the power of the consumer. I don't see the majority of gamers paying a monthly service and then paying for MTC's on top of it. There is a limit to where the consumer has finally had enough of being fucked.

Want an example? Look no further then EA who at their peak was worth around 45 billion dollars. They have now plummeted to 28 billion dollars.

No, and it will definitely make them worse when they have full control over the games you have paid for.
