Really? I remember the GC being the last good console Nintendo has made.
GC: standard(ish) controller, good games
Wii U: Gimmicks, ???
It's been a while though so my memory is a bit fuzzy. Never had a WiiU. From GC I remember 2 good Zeldas, Tales of Symphonia, good Mario Kart, Metroid Prime, and the Skies of Arcadia remake.

Wii U had the best Mario Kart since Double Dash.
And I loooooooove Double Dash.
That's a bit unfair
GameCube at least had a unique Zelda
and 2 pikmins instead of 1
Well look on the bright side:
Wii had 0 pikmin games
And 0 good Zelda games
and 0 good mario games.
Oh i'm going to get flamed for that one.
I'd definitely disagree, Nintendo made better choices regarding what kinds of games fans wanted with their franchises on the GameCube. Also, even though they weren't as abundant as the PS2, third parties actually gave a shit about the console and released quality games on it.

Hyrule Warriors and Battlequest on Wii U

Yeah, overall the GC has a much more well rounded library thanks to decent third party support. Plus, it's one of the best systems for local multiplayer to this day.
Gamecube gave us Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4
Wii U gave us Splatoon and Bayonetta 1
and 0 good mario games.
Oh i'm going to get flamed for that one.
Super mario galaxy was quite good, but I still have no clue what those waggle and motion controls added to the game.
Kinda like how I really wanted to play Skyward sword without the motion controls (except for the sword fighting, that was bearable)...
Damn, motion controls really added nothing to games, except for maybe annoyances :/

Gamepad=DK Bongos/Gamecube Mic/Another Add-on rarely used
Tales of Symphonia=Tokyo Mirage Sessions
Skies of Arcadia=Resident evil Revelations
@R4gn4r0k For Mario Galaxy, the Wii controls added a whole new dimension to collecting items and a gameplay element of shooting things via the starbits. This is a gameplay element that could not be done with a standard controller, because Galaxy had you controlling Mario and doing the aiming thing at the same time. With a regular gamepad, you'd have to pause. And of course, Skyward Sword's combat is deeper than any other Zelda thanks to it's motion controls. You cannot get gameplay like that without a button.

The Gamecube had a more radical controller than the Wii U. The Wii U controller was just a regular pad with a screen in the middle; the Gamecube abandoned the SNES design that is standard across all consoles today.

Yep, strongly agreed. I played the shit out of Double Dash and Melee because they're so much fun with other people. GameCube at least got new iterations in the Zelda, F-Zero, and Metroid franchises whereas they were totally ignored on the Wii U (besides the WW and TP ports which is why I said new ones).
I loved some of the third party games on it. Tales of Symphonia, Soul Calibur II, Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time, Rogue Squadron, and TimeSplitters 2 are all outstanding games.
The Gamecube was the best console of its generation, so......
Yes, I guess Wii U is basically the Gamecube.

Soul calibur is like Pokken
Rouge squadron is closest to Star Fox Zero
Timesplitters is closest to Xenoblade X
Prince of Persia is closest to Assasin's Creed
This thread is basically the 'Wii U is basically the gamecube all over again, right?"-thread all over again, right ?
Basically.
@Infinity8378: You're joking, right?
GameCube at least had more than just Pokken with Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat, I haven't played Pokken to comment on if it's good but I'm honestly not interested in playing that game.
Rogue Squadron>>>>>Star Fox Zero, plus GCN had Assault.
TimeSplitters 2 is an FPS and Xenoblade X is an RPG, two completely different genres.
I haven't played the Assassin's Creed games but I'd rather have 2 of the Prince of Persia games over those (I didn't like Warrior Within).
I can't think of a single genre that the Wii U surpasses the GameCube in since there's really no competition.
Gamecube had 2 new IPs that stuck for more than a decade, one becoming a giant sales monster (Animal Crossing) and the other being a very unique, great second tier sales series (Pikmin)
Reinvented Metroid with Prime- game looks and plays fantastic to this day
Had a fully 3D Mario adventure with Sunshine
Star Wars Rogue Squadron exclusivity
Resident Evil 4
Super Smash Bros Melee
Star Fox Adventures was ambitious and tried to expand the franchise (unlike Zero which did the exact opposite)
Mario Party 4 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mario Shit 10
Double Dash
fuckin SOUL CALIBUR 2 WITH LINK
Zelda Wind Waker- open world (for the time) and exclusive to the console. Also had TP which shared with Wii
Zelda Four swords adventures
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance which is probably in most fans top 5 games of the series
--------
Wii U had...more Smash, more Kart, more Mario, bunch of 2D games...it was more like a shitty, less ambitious N64 in HD than a gamecube...
@jcrame10: Plus
Then Wii U has backward compatibility, and eShop.
No, I actually like the GCN, because it had good exclusives and good versions of multiplats. Wii U has jack.
The Gamecube was powerful for it's time. The WiiU was not.
The Gamecube had some excellent AAA 3rd party support. The WiiU did not. (Unless you want to pretend years late, poorly optimized X360 ports matter to anyone) Both had droughts, it was the WiiU that set a world record for longest downtime between game releases though.
The Gamecube had god tier original Zelda and Metroid titles. The WiiU did not.
The Gamecube launched awesome new IPs like Pikmin. The WiiU did about the same here, with Splatoon being Nintendo's most interesting new title since Wii Sports imo.
The Gamecube didn't really have any gimmicks, if you don't mind the weird shaped pad. WiiU has a lame tablet that even Nintendo never bothered to utilise in 99% of their games.
The Gamecube stands as a great system in it's own right, that just couldn't compete with the PS2's massive library and lengthy lifespan. The WiiU is a garbage system that has only a handful of exclusive titles to redeem it. Which will hopefully all get NX ports so that we can forget this failure.
Eternal Darkness trumps all!

Why I never!
No.
The Gamecube has tons of great 3rd party games from major publishers. It had most of the Nintendo 1st party staples, including two new Zeldas, Metroids, Pikmins(new at the time), and an F-Zero game. It was a technically impressive system that had the specs to compete with other consoles, with the exception of its disc format. While the Wii U does maintain some of the DNA of the Gamecube, the situation isn't the same. They failed for different reasons.
Super Mario maker = SMSunshine?
I never gave a flying turd for Nintendo to be honest.
I grew up with Sega and then PS1. My first Ninty system was a Wii an ex owned. Their games and systems were heralded in the late 80s-90s but girls had WAY better graphics and they put out in NYC (especially to football players).
I own a 3DS, love it and respect them enough to own ADRs (NTDOY) of their company. But................
TLDR: F*ck Nintendo
-Sunshine
-better than anything on Wii U
Come on now bro. Some of the other stuff you listed was questionable, but that's just gross lol.
Even if we're just sticking to Mario games, 3D World, NSMBU, and Mario Maker all outclass Sunshine.
No. GC was an excellent console for the first ~2 years. It got worse later on but it wasn't a useless system. WiiU on the other hand... its a tragedy. The WiiU is as forgettable as it gets. Console gets discontinued and no one even notices. This bad.

This is pretty much what I intended to write, GC was miles better than Wii U.
