Seems interesting. I'm not sure I'd buy it for 75$ until I see a vid showing a great Difference. We need a Vid.

Summary: Wii can now be upscale to 1080p, 1080i and 720p. It can also be upscaled on a PC monotor too...1280x1024, 1440x900, and 1680x1050.

"Now, it's important to remember that while the VD-W3 can take the Wii's 480p video output and cleanly scale it to large high-definition resolutions, the graphics being produced by the Wii are not actually produced in high-definition. In other words, the VD-W3 will, in theory, improve the appearance of the Wii's video output, but it is still just an interim solution until Nintendo finally makes the leap to HD graphics processing on a new hardware SKU."

So, what do you think?

Sorry if posted already BTW.

It will still be fuzzy because Wii games are deisnged with 480 in mind.

This is only going to make Wii games' texturing appear much lower resolution than it already is...:?

Thanks for posting!

I might buy this....

When it comes to my Wii I can live without the HD sharpness but I can't stand all the jaggies that show up on my TV.

Can someone please inform me on what I'd need to actually hook this up to my TV?

Judging by the picture it looks like I just need one of those little adapter things right?

upscaling always causes a lag (however small it might be). To me 75 bucks sounds to cheap for a quick upscaler

Completely and utterly pointless. If your TV actually displays in HD resolution, then it will upscale the Wii's output to that resolution. The only reason you would need this would be for a monitor that doesn't support 640x480, or if your TV's scaler is totally busted. And even in that case...who knows how the good the scaler in this thing actually is.

Is your tv hd. Most hd tvs support both 720 and 1080p. Also its not as big a diff as upscaling a sd signal

wait, my TV (or even my PC monitor) upscales the image itself anyway, just like it upscales PS3/360 output to 1080p when it isnt 1080p. so what is it supposed to do exactly, except possibly create more lag than a monitor or TV would ?

Why does the Wii NEED HD exactly?

To my knowledge if the Wii would get HD the Games won't change and I highly doubt that Games for the Wii would "MAGICALLY" get better and games would "MAGICALLY" turn from AA to AAA.

If it really does do a great job improving clarity then it may be worth it. Removing jaggies would be nice.

My Wii looks really bad on an HDTV. I still use it for the widescreen, nice colors, and double the sharpness but jaggies are everywhere and it's kind of distracting.

Are there any videos of it with this? I'm curious to see what it looks like.

This is a scam!

Be careful with these things.

You are paying $75 for a thing that does something your TV already does automatically.

You want Wii in HD, wait till next-gen.

Does every TV do this? What about the TVs that don't display SD well? My TV doesn't upscale or "smooth" the image out, so when I play my Wii I get a really rough image with lots of jaggies. Wouldn't this help?

Any TV is only capable of displaying its native resolution. This means if you have an HDTV and you're watching SD content, that has to get upscaled to the native resolution somehow. Higher end TV's will do a better job of it than cheap TV's, but even the really good ones aren't going to remove the jaggies. The jaggies happen because the game is running at a low resolution, so unless you change that you won't get rid of them.

not a bad idea for those who have tellies that are crap at upscaling. i wonder if they could have gone a step further though and applied AA to the output from the wii before sending it to the telly. that way jag free games. on a side note...now the wii has HDMI :). well....for an extra 75 quid :S. anywho i wont be buying as im happy with the wii visuals on my telly.

some TV upscalers arent that great though, but i do agree this cable is junk. It would be better to just by a Audio/Video reciever.

There's no internal AA device, or anything like that. Like I said, some TV's are better than others. It's also impossible to account for personal opinion in something like this...what one person calls "very well" another person might call "crap".

Your regular multisample AA is a process that occurs as the triangles are rendered, which means you can't apply it afterwards as a post-process. Certain forms of post-process AA are becoming popular, and have produced good results in games like God of War III. But there's 3 problems with that:

1. You typically don't want it applied to the final image, but instead you'll apply it to the 3D geometry before the HUD elements are drawn on top
2. A lot of times these algorithms use depth or normal information from buffers in video memory...a device like this wouldn't have access to that information.
3. It takes a tremendous amount of processing power do it. Not really practical for a little box that sits in between your console and your TV.

Yeah, I kind of figured it would. I've seen videos of Super Mario Bros. Wii run on an emulator, with a higher resolution, and it looks much better.

It wouldn't be worth $75 though.
