Why Xbox choose Dirt 5 as marketing showcase?

So I am actually quite interested in Dirt 5 its a racing game (I consider myself as a new fan of the racing sim genre, GTS is superb) and its coming to Playstation as well but my god this is such awful gameplay presentation. I don't think the game is running on Xbox Series X or last gen Xbox Series S or even a Playstation but running on mobile. Is Xbox that weak? Hmmmmmmmmmm

Probably to try to tide over the Forza crowd, which is part of their core audience, while they work on the next Forza Motorsport.

@sakaixx: Can you name one Codemasters racing game other than F1 that is a looker?

Also you said you're new to the "sim" genre, well Codemasters has always gone for framerate over graphics.

@i_p_daily: Got to admit I haven't played many sim other than GT and Forza 6 & 7, and , my only other Dirt reference that I played was Dirt Rally 2.0 also by codemaster last year and I think that looks better.

The only reason its in their marketing is because they have "120fps" written on the console box, and this last gen looking game is one of the very few that can get to 120fps.

Nah, other than the car the rest of the game isn't a looker just like Dirt Rally, Dirt 4 etc, i can say this as someone who's played them all.

The partnership is probably because MS screwed up in getting a new Forza Motorsport game out at release. Forza Motorsport 7 was released 3yrs ago, so Turn 10 should have had a Forza game at launch. I'm waiting to purchase the SeX until next year sometime when i find out more info on the next Forza game.

Few reasons.

It’s one of the few games coming out around launch.

The only other release games Xbox has “marketing rights” to my knowledge are AC: Vanhalla and Cyberpunk 2077 and I know Cyberpunk 2077 will not have a Series X/S PS5 enhancement update until like March of 2021. So I believe Xbox is waiting on AC: Vanhalla.

It is a little disappointing given how generic and current gen it looks. They really needed a new Forza Horizon to launch with which would have been very appealing.

@i_p_daily: Codemaster strategy this year seems awful. Both Project Cars 3 and Dirt 5, very arcade sims in the same year. Probably rushing when they realize no Forza this year and GT is probably delayed to 2021.

Also thanks making me realize Forza 7 was 3 years ago. Hope they took the time to improve the online component to be more like GTS. The series is full of casuals with punters everywhere. Hope Turn 10 can separate the guys who enjoys a clean racing from the rest.

Lems should just go PC. You'll get ultimate graphics on PC, and MS won't even charge you to play online. Go and join your Hermit brethren.

Because it's a low effort, non-demanding racer that can hit performance modes better. Likely the same reason they're pushing The Falconeer as well since it's another graphically simpler game. So they can tout numbers.

Because Dirt 5 is pretty much the only game that will be 4K/120

It's a cross gen title , if you think is going to be better on PS5 you are setting yourself up for a big disappointment.

I was reading through the comments on Digital Foundry for the video they published for Dirt 5 and people were bashing IGN cause they posted Dirt 5 at 1080p claiming "4K60" and used 3000 bitrate...

@dagubot: I went back and search for a better video and indeed gamespot provides better ones but, as u can see that pic from howmakewood and maybe hardwenzen taken from that gamespot video, it doesnt look that much better.

@Pedro: I am actually interested in the game and it is a multiplatform title. Maybe pokes a bit of fun of the xbox on the side.

I have no idea, racing games are boring.

They might as well have just shown a tin of Delux Matt White Emulsion Wall And Ceiling.

Same level of excitement at a cheaper price.

This does look pretty bad. I bet they showed it because they don't have much to show for launch aside for Yakuza which also looks current gen. Don't expect a next gen experience on Power X until a couple years. They're just behind on game development due to Covid but...if you want a true next gen looking game, Demon Souls is where it's at. MS should show more Gears 5 running at 120fps. I think that's a launch title too.

Bottom line, I don’t think Xbox decided on choosing Dirt 5 and Yakuza to “showcase” what the next generation is all about and what the Series X is capable. It more or less came down to those studios saying, they are pretty much done. I bet Xbox would have rather shown off Cyberpunk or Halo or even Gears 5 but they just aren’t ready. It just is what it is. Those games (Dirt 5, Yakuza) are not gonna look anymore next gen on PS5 or perform any better. Then again..... we will find out if the PS5 ever reaches reviewers.

Lets not pretend that people don't use others as brakes on GTS, casuals are on GTS in fact with Sony having the highest sales means they have the most casuals lol.

Also you can set up private matches since like forever.

You can but that means your sportsmanship ratings will be low and you will be paired with casuals. Plays good and you will be played with others of same similar mindset. Racing sim plays best when you use skill and play a bit of mind games with you opponent when to overtake instead of full speed at corner hoping to bounce off the other player.

Dayum they're removing all the spectators for the 120fps mode and there's no shadows? What's the point of having a dynamic 120fps when your game looks shittier than what it does on a standard ps4?

It seems to me that Sony have hoovered up the better of the 3rd party offerings leaving MS to run around and pick up the scraps.
