Most us know that the WII has been one of nintendo's greatest success ever. However it should not be considered in the same catagory as the ps3 or xbox360 because one of the reasons for that success was that it targeted a different audience. Let me explain further.

Nintendo lost the previous console war because the gamecube had to compete with the ps2 (all hail the king) and the xbox for the hardcore audience. Now nintendo has decided to change directions and start the casual market which neither the xbox360 nor the ps3 has attempted to start. So basically right now Nintendo owns the casual market and the xbox and ps3 are competiting for the hardcore market. Therefore, we shouldn't compare the wii with ps3 and xbox in terms of sales because of the target audience difference.(game scores i guess would be fine).

Now if microsoft decides to relaunch the xbox360 as a causal system (xbox expirence) then we should count all sales from that day forward as a standerd for comparison between the 360 and WII (no ps3).

P.S. I'm a big ps3 fan.

They are still fighting in the same battlefield.

Like the Olympics. Some medals are won in Running, others in Swimming, but it all adds up to a total.

We don't care about sales here until the NPD's rolls around. We always compare games.

Besides, the Xbox 360 is starting a HUGE casual campaign this holiday season, so no reason to kick BOTH of them out.

The whole point of producing a product and making it available to the public (Be it video games, movies, TV's, toys, plungers, toasters, literally anything) is to reach the largest possible audience. Nintendo has succeeded where 360 and PS3 have failed. Nintendo has helped make video games more acceptable to the public. Wii IS competing with M$ and Sony to sell the most units. Thats how they make money...which is the whole point of a company. Wii has kicked them both in the face, punched them in the gut, then sucker punched them in the back of the head. Wanting the Wii to not be in the same category as 360 and PS3 ain't gonna change any of the facts. You're just mad that a revolution of casuals toppled over your precious "hardcore" gaming empire.

Why do I get the feeling if it was last in sales it would always be included with the other two as a current generation console by cows and lemmings?

No, you're wrong. You act like Sony and Microsoft intentionally decided to forget the biggest gaming audience (casual) and instead decided to market directly to the smallest market (hardcore). They are a company and their goal is to make as much money as possible. Sony and Microsoft failed to provide a console that was casual friendly. Sony failed to get all the PS2 casuals to buy PS3's. Instead they bought Wii's.

Holy crap! The PS2 didn't count last generation because it's main focus was casual gamers! Console gaming is dying because it only sold 40 million hardcore consoles last gen!

Just because the Wii is what it is doesn't mean it's not a videogame system like the PS3, the 360 and the PC.

And besides, it's not like like it's doing it's doing much other than in sales. So if you wanted to exclude the Wii out of sheer partisanship, well it's not like you'd have anything to worry about.

The PS2 was fighting for the hardcore audience?

They definitely got the hardcore, but they also captured the casual gamers, same as the Wii. That's a terrible argument TC.
