why the ps3 will overcome the 360 by june 2008

I really think that the 360 time in 2nd will come to an end

for the following reason

* the price cut makes the system seem a little more affordable. people will see that maybe a a hi-def player for this price is not a bad deal plus they get a game system. And hd sets will be the norm in about 2 years. and the ps3 plays the disk unlike the 360

* People waiting to see what format will win will be turned on by 5 free blu-ray movies. While they might not be the best movies , 5 movies is a nice start to a collection when movies can run up to $30 dollars a piece. the truth is each blu-ray disk cost about $0.70 to produce so sony and blu-ray are not losing all that much (about $7.00 toal with shipping)

* by doing the price cut sony will sell a lot of system due to what people think they are saving. And by that i mean the price cut ($100.00) 5 free movies and maybe a free game (motorstorm). by putting the blu-ray format in a lot of homes because the format is needed for game and movies, sony almost ensures that blu-ray has the format victory.

* the ps3 looks really nice in a home system. its black and shiney like most componets. and this will make a lot of people happy. The 360 should discontinue that off white body and go with the black. the elite is very nice looking and core is not.

* make the 360 hdd cheaper. Games will be using it in the future and i am sure gamers with the hdd in there system dont like that producers have to hold back due to some systems not having the hdd.

*franchises... MGS, FF and Grand turismo, Tekken are all storied franchises and most media outlets take notice at a games arrival. for instance Yahoo! games did a feature on MGS3, GT4 and FF12, GoW2 when they came out like they did for halo2 and some wii mario game. I know bioshock will be good and Bluedragon might be ok but what i named you are storied franchises some dating back 15 years.

The wii will lead for a long time but when everyone already has a wii because i think most people that own one is because it is the status quo, who will buy it. do most wii owners who arent really gamers buy games for it. my GF has one and she just plays wii sports and wario sometimes.

Oh yeah, and each point you make besides the last one about franchises is the same point, just phrased differently each time. You could have just had two bullet points...

1) PS3 plays Blu-Ray and is $500 so it will win.

and

2) It has the games that I like on it, and if I like it, everyone else should as well.

All predictions are poor at best anyway. MS didn't hit their sales projections either...

Lets act like the PS3 can fly off the shelves better then the Wii and have a 2 million unit December. I'm pretty sure atm 360 is roughly 7 million units "sold" over the PS3.

10 months x 400,000 units = 4,000,000

1 month December 2,000,000

total: 6,000,000

This still doesnt catch the 360 even if the sales of the system halted to zero starting Aug 1st. The Earliest I can see the PS3 ever overtaking the 360 is late 2009, maybe even very early 2010.

When you are selling 315,000 systems a month and people still dont have them because of shortages, yeah you are the winner in my eyes. Oh I have no doubt that the Wii will pass the 360. However, it has not yet, and it might never pass, as we cannot predict the future.

Therefore, it is still 360 > Wii > PS3 in terms of overall sales.

Monthly sales is generally Wii > 360 > PS3, so it should pass the 360 at some point, but again, it hasn't yet.

I'm not crowning any winners yet,just giving my 2 cents.For all I know when Halo 3 and Mass Effect etc are released the 360 could have a huge sales spike from which the PS3 will never be able to catch up from.But as you say we'll just have to wait and see.

So, I'm guessing your going to use the lowest recorded number from any source for the 360 sales numbers and use a guess sorta combining actual sold and shipped from Sony. Btw, November to August 2nd isnt 6 months.

Actually Nov 22, 2005 - Aug 22, 2007 = 21 months. There are 12 months in a year so the 360 still has nearly 4 months left before it hits its 2 year mark. The funny thing is cows will claim the 360 is on the same pace as the XBOX, even though the 360 will more then likely hit 18 to 19 million units shipped by the end of this year and have over 20 million shipped by end of June next year, meaning the 360 will surpass original XBOX sales in maybe 2 and half years, if not 3 years. On top of that, XBL users has jumped 250% since the 360 came out from 2 million to 7 million and those numbersare estimated to grow as much as 10 million by end of June 2008.

storied franchises = old franchises... most xbox 360 owners owned a PS2 last gen, all for good reason we have moved on to something better... I dont know anybody who is seriously considering a PS3.
