Most of the game appeal to an American crowd. The ones that don't most people don't even won't to bother to take the chance with. It's fan base I guess. Sony's and Nintendo's is still holding pretty strong.

out selling world wide...yep thats about it because its now a cheap blu-ray player. ppl are still waiting for the os3 and 360 to become 200 or around. even tho the arcade pack is 259.99 ppl want cheaper. but yeah ps3 only sold more then 360 right after christmas (thanks to boxing day) and what when else? um abe end of novmeber it was world wide, thats it...i don't remmeber the ps3 outselling the 360 more then twice.

But, everyone suspected that MS stuffed their channels at the end of 06 and that number was probably overinflated.

Regardless, examine the data monthly. The first 7 months of the year were dismal for MS. RROD anyone?

But the last 5 months were actually better than the previous year. You can see that in the NPD numbers alone.

The real question is can MS carry the momentum of the past 4-5 months into 2008?

If so, they will be fine. If not, then real trouble is possible.

Please do not forget what a fiasco the RROD was and the very lightwieght sales in the first half of 2007. That is where they stumbled. But once they announced the warranty, dropped their price a bit and started producing the falcon/dual heatsink units....well just look at the NPD data. Up every month year over year in the fall...substantially.

People will shoot you down for saying the PS3 is outselling the 360. Just say they are close to eachother to be safe.

What went wrong? Nothing.

The 360 demographic isn't huge. They are hardcore gamers, who make up a much smaller number than casuals. Therefore you won't see amazing 360 sales, but you will and have seen amazing software sales -- because hardcores love their games.

There's nothing MS can do really, they are out of system sellers (doubt Fable 2 will attract anyone new), but they still have great software coming to it. They did alot better than they did last gen and will probably walk away from this with 1/4 of the market. You can't spin it in a bad way, but yes -- with all of these great games for the 360, it's kind of sad to see it still struggle with the other 2 competitors.

Probably will top off at 40 mil.

Wii will continue to sell wonderfully because it attracts everyone, including hardcores. And PS3 will probably also take 1/4 of the market because of the slow start. But miracles do happen. Everyone wants to see just how popular the PS3's upcoming titles will be, and if they prove to be just as popular as they were last gen -- then there's a good chance at the PS3 making a huge comeback.

personally i think they've done all they can. They have been successful but at the end of the day they are going up against a monster that they can't overcome, in sony. But look at it this way, even though it is inevitable (IMO) that sony overtakes xbox, but the gap will be far smaller this time, which is something for them to build on w/ their next system. In japan and the asian area I think it's a lost cause, due to them having ALOT of games which are very popular being sony exclusive and never making to US shores.

What went wrong?

Casuals.

The Wii appeals to everybody, especially the younger crowd. Really young kids don't know much of anything about games. They don't care about online, graphics, or anything like that. They just want to have fun. Parents get them the Wii for a variety of reasons. The interactivity of it (with the wiimote). The price of it. And if they are at all familar with videogames, or listen to a salesman at the store, they know that the Nintendo consoles have been traditionally "kid friendly".

I mean this generation you have a huge gap in terms of the differences between the PS3/360 and the Wii and that shows in the price. Past generations, the systems were all pretty comparable in what they could do. Now you have the PS3/360 which is all about being a multimedia next gen machine that can do anything including tons of online features. Whereas the Wii relies more on the "innovative" controller it has and the ability to be accesbile to everybody, not just gamers. You used to choose your system based on the games it had. But now, the features the system has are just as important.

hmmmm , i just looked @ the lifetime sales for 360 in japan ..and get this ...they havent even topped 1m units sold in that region :O in 2 years Kakarot00769

Because it brings nothing new to the table. its basicaly a dumbed down PC. The wii clearly is unique and is not expensive and the PS3 has been too expensive but is picking up now not only because of price but because of the support Blu-ray is getting. When people look at the the other consoles and a PC they look at how much of an investment it is going to be. In the long run the 360 just doesnt cut it.

Despite what lemmings like to shout from the mountain tops, it has a serious lack of variety. For having a year headstart and being out for as long as it has... it's lacking. Also it's expensive, caters to only one kind of gamer, and is seen as too hardcore by the masses.

Yeah that's what i meant. In this current gen, it's no Ps2.. that's for sure. Not saying that it might not one day.. but it's just highly unlikely... it caters to one crowd, and that one crowd doesn't stray much from what they like... unfortunately.

I assume by crowd that you mean the 360 over-caters to the FPS lover. Certainly this is the Xbox's strength, both original and 360. However, any 360 owner can tell you that the great games on the system go well beyond Halo 3 and Bioshock. If you have no interest in Eternal Sonata, Mass Effect, Oblivion (for the time it was only on the 360/PC), Kameo, Gears, Forza, PGR, Viva Pinata, Crackdown, and many others, well then you must be a FPS lover, but you can't be or you wouldn't bring the point up.

2-hardware sux (USA wants cheap products, the rest of the world apprieciates value)

PC gaming is not as unusual outside US as it is inside.
