Why isn't there a Price Cut or a New PS4 model yet?

Fact the PS4 Launched at 400 dollars in 2013 christmas

it is now approaching april 2015 not a single dim has been cut your paying a huge premium for old technology that people bought new years ago for the same price

even apple and companies like that reduce the prices on stuff all the time let alone years after this is disgusting

they have not remodeled the design at all the system is the same one that wobbled back at launch if you touch the back of it or near the dvd drive it wobbles an try to like hold it

thats the first thing you fix

apple fixes hardware all the timem with re-designs and make sure they are 100% non-wobbling an stuff

basically you need 350 dollar ps4 with blood borne attached

you need a slim model that is straight an flat like the xb1

and you need make your online cheaper id say 20 dollar for a year of psn is fine without the dumb ps+ titles i dont need them

what you guys think does sony have to do this to stay competitive

do they need 350 dollar new slim ps4 with bloodborne included with some maybe blood on the console an controller for collectors?

im not paying full price this late into the gen its just not gonna happen sony ill stick with xbox until u come to reality sony come to reality with us or im not coming over to ur system

probably because they had The Order, Bloodborne and MLB this quarter. They should really drop the price for Q3 to compete with xbone since it's mostly multiplats. Only in the US though. Other regions can stay the same..

Because there's no reason to have a price cut just yet nor for another year is my guess. PS4 is still the fastest selling console so what's the point of ever having a price cut? In case you didn't know, Amazon are doing deals regarding PS4 low price and bundle deals so the average joe should look for deals elsewhere, not from Sony themselves.

The PS4 is selling like hotcakes at it's current price. Why on earth would Sony drop it now? They will wait until the growth has slowed and want to stimulate things. "Because I can afford one then" isn't a good enough reason for Sony to get less money for their console.

There doesn't need to be yet. Until sales slow down significantly there is no real reason to drop the price.

Actually, commanding a premium and meeting market equilibrium is a sign of strength to an increasingly brand psychology driven market. It will, if at all likely, get a price reduction at E3 for maximum exposure as a promotion. If not, it will definitely get a price drop with the slim redesign which should be starting design and lab phase later in the fiscal year.

I was going to argue your "poor people have all this stuff" point but I can't. Not regarding the PS4 or people skipping rent payments anyway. Well maybe not the Jordans part either.....

I got my PS4 for 300 euros with GTA 5 and The Last Of Us on Cyber Monday. Only scrubs pay 400 without a game.

Also, i hadn't played GTA 5 and The Last Of Us before this, those were two great games the do right after each other.

just take look at msrp for ps3 and 360 and you'll see some models are still selling for as high $250.... and these consoles are almost a decade old.

what was the deal with hard drives there was some drama about people not being able to add a hard drive into one of the consoles

i dunno which one all i know is like i heard ppl complaining that they couldn't get more space on one of the consoles

i know the xb1 has 1 terabyte model thats al i know tho could one use external hard drives or something?

It's great that you can add your own hard drive, but I shouldn't have to buy a 500 GB hard drive with the current PS4 SKU and then throw it away to do that, either.

The PS4 is only 16 months old? The console is selling quite well at it's current price point, so why would they cut the price? There will probably be a Slim model announced next year. Seems like Sony waits until year 3 for the Slim.

You can easily find a PS4 for $350 new if you look. There are also bundles with extra free games, and controllers. You just need to look. For example.....trade in a 360 or a PS3 and get $175 off of a PS4 at Gamestop. So basically a PS4, TLoU remastered, all for $225 plus tax. Wal-Mart is selling a TLoU PS4 bundle with an extra controller, and an extra game for $400. etc...etc. There are deals out there.

Why would they drop the price when millions of people are still willing to pay $400? I'm sure Sony will cut the price once the sales begin to slow or stagger.

@ProtossX: Because it's selling at it's current price. Have you seen the PS4 sales? The PS4 is selling in huge numbers (20+ million). You drop the price to generate sales and they don't need to yet. If you are looking for a deal, I see good deals and bundles all the time.

I every other week there is always deals everywhere that I get emails about.

Sony is making money on them and actually selling at a good rate. So they have no reason to lower the price. No one is really complaining about the price either, people were actually praising Sony for having that $400 price point.

Unless things start to go bad for the PS4 and/or M$'s X1 starts to be a threat, then it is then that can lower the price.

As far as to be asking for a new model? Geez... you want a slim so fast already? The PS4 is already pretty small, idk what they can do to redesign it to justify producing a new model. Im sure there will be a slim down the line but... atleast give it another year man.

As a consumer...sure, I agree with you. Getting the same thing while paying less is always great as a consumer.

From Sony's perspective, why would you cut the price on a system that is selling incredibly well at its current price point? $400 seems to be its equilibrium price at the moment....

They aren't desperate like Microsoft, they don't need price cuts to sell. MS messed up, they've had to get rid of the kinect, free up esdram for graphical (sorta) improvements, price drop, to many bundles, gimmicks like backwards com., DX12, Windows 10, and the list goes on. If they would have made the console "correctly" the first time around, they wouldn't have to worry about sales. Simple fact Sony put a more power GPU, better RAM, and just an overall system for GAMERS. There's your answer in a nutshell. It's like Infinity vs Hyundai.
