I didn't like doom when I first tried it but thats cause I'm used to much better shooters. You have to play it with the mindset that its the early 90's and there has never been anything like this before.
It has the simplicity that anyone can pick up and a charm that made it age very well. Get a friend on skulltag (or your source port of choice) and do co-op, that is some of the most fun you will have.
I play it online now through zDaemon is it me, or is it better than most shooters today?doomisawesome
The Single player rules for DOOM i dunno about the multi player. I use the Doomsday engine so i have the ability to look around using the mouse IE look up down etc. Its also provides Higher Resolutions and generally brings the game to a standard thats playable by modern standards.
So in my eyes i still prefer it to many FPS games of today. Thing is with DOOM not many games have nailed the Mass outnumbered fighting thing as well as DOOM, the only other game of some import that managed it is Serious Sam.
it's a lot quicker than a lot of shooters today, it retains a charm as well.
It's a refreshing antitdote to the overly serious and gritty ww2 and modern shooters that saturate the market today.
[QUOTE="fiscope"]the SNES version was horrible the same goes for the SNES version of Wolfenstein I had it on PC recently. Still not so hot. I think doom 2 holds up better. Gotta love that chainsaw.I played it on my SNES. It was alright for it's time but there are better doom-esque games now.
