Why doesn't Xbox have a State of Play/Direct?

Do you think they should, SW? Maybe they are saving it all for E3? Or maybe there isn't much to show at the moment. But I'm kinda digging these update videos even though many of them aren't really that exciting. At least it gives us an idea of what's going on with upcoming games. Don't you agree?

Isn't Inside Xbox supposed to be the same thing, just less frequent?

Major Nelson does a weekly show where they show stuff. Sometimes it is new/upcoming games, sometimes it is about hardware updates, etc

Not having much to show at the moment didn't stop Sony or Nintendo.

I will say, Xbox has done a great job with announcements at E3 and Game Awards in the past. But I'm not really remembering a Direct style show. Maybe they need to do them more!

As for doing more shows like Direct.. I am torn on that. If all we see is rehashed crap we have already seen then I would pass (lets be honest the Sony and Nintendo shows were a waste of time). If they can do quarterly shows that will reveal games and/or show new footage of games already announced then that would be ok, but I would not want to have to sit through what Sony and Nintendo just offered.

They have a weekly update on Xbox, so why do they need another show for...updates about Xbox?😐

Sony just made a State of Play announcing games they had already announced last year, I rather wait until they have something new to show.

Of course I played it. If I wanted Final Fantasy to turn in to a crap episodic button masher, I would have just played DMC. I'm old school. For me FF4,6,9, old 7,1,3 and 5 all beat the crap out of this new age crap.

The Zenimax purchase will be finalized in March... then they will follow up with a Bethesda showcase sometime mid march.

Considering the best game we saw out of the Direct/ State of Play was a Bethesda game... the show has real potential. Lets see some Starfield!!

They do but usually they talk about new games coming and going from Game Pass and calendar for upcoming Games with Gold titles. I don't even watch it my browser feed usually has someone writing a summary of the streams so I can glance at the highlights, or someone posts about any important news here.

Love when people who play the gameplay equivalent of going through dvd menus want to be above an action game that actually lets you get good at stuff.

Nothing says quality than a gameplay setup that’s only appeal would be its tactical decision making, except nothing in the game ever leveraged any of that because the tactics have been simplified to a 4 step process.

JRPG fans just suck at real time, calling DMC a button masher makes them feel better because their games need to be turnbased so they can spend 15 minutes mid battle for a single attack.

Ill play turn based rpgs but usually while i'm doing other stuff because they are stupid easy and i can literally put it down and walk away and it doesn't matter lol

Umm you did button mash in old school FF games. ATB, made navigating menus result in a damage loss for most of the part.

Usually the best ways to do damage was just spam attack or your best spell over and over.

FF16 actually has potential, since they hired DMC's combat designer.

They are okay.. State of play was basically Sony just copying Nintendo directs and was cheaper for them than doing Events.

State of play or Nintendo direct could be accomplished just as easily by doing social media posts with gameplay trailers and screenshots attached...

But yeah I get you. Just the nature of ATB, pretty sure even in wait mode it only applied to sub menus. So you'd end up setting the option to remember your last input. Which is "fine" since the games rarely make you consider your choices and chances are, your big damage spam is the optimal route. Ends up being the equivalent of action game button mashing, just brute forcing braindead play.

I get the occasional urge to replay the classic FFs. Some of the strongest nostalgia I have for any games... but yeah, then there's the playing it part. Nothing against turn based (or even ATB) gameplay, just those games in particular are super shallow about it.

Way back when, things like the music, the graphics, the story, the sense of progression, etc. were enough to pull me through. Now, just nah. Get the urge to replay FF4? Go to Youtube and listen to the OST instead lol. Nostalgia quelled. Uematsu da GOAT.

Acting like you don't get my point is just silly. Final Fantasy changed. Some think it was for the better, some think it was for the worse. It is what it is.
