I honestly don't get it, it does nothing special at all. The MP is the only good part about it, the story doesnt even make sense and it is beyond generic. For the record I do own a xbox360 gamertag is xMixTapeManglax just in case you don't beleive me. The only halo that was great was halo 2 and that definatly doesnt deserve a 9.7 I mean REALLY? I would give it a solid 8 and HAlO 3 wth?? 9.5 Are you serious?? the story is repetitive as hell and MP does get old after a while. Why is it that people praise this series like its somehow revolutionary? I do have faith that HALO reach will deliver, Im reallyhoping it does because this series is getting a bit to stale.

This just shows you don't even know what you're talking about. The story is actually unique from other shooter games. Entailing a religious conflict and the how the galaxy is endangered, not just by the spread of a parasitic infection, but by ignorance - how a misconception of long forgotten ancient technologies being misinterpreted as spiritual devices of ascension can lead to galactic destruction.
 thats actually sounds pretty good but i couldnt tell that was the plot by playing halo 2 or 3 (never played 1 but i plan to buy it for 360 this week)
Well of course you're not going to get the plot playing only the latter 2 games, having missed the first  You pretty much discredited youself for being able to criticize its story, geeeez.
As for the other points of Halo, it is very noteworthy that while Golden Eye and Perfect Dark brought FPS to consoles, where previously it had been the domain of PCs, Halo further refined the gameplay, and took the import of FPS from PC to console even further with online multiplayer.
It also created great presentation with its cinematics. Now while it can be said it borrowed a lot of elements from other games before it, what's key here is how it took those elements, where each game had just that given feature, and uniquely combined them all into a seamless package. Overall, Halo was a refinement of the shooter genere on consoles, and that is the key ingredient to its success.
It also combined accessibility, with a level of hardcore for those gamers (like in the MLG) who dedicate themselves to the competetive aspects of the game.
