@son-goku7523: Exactly, perfectly summarized.

I expect the next xbox to actually be a far more capable of a 8k machine but It doesn't really even matter now because again most people don't currently care about 8k or are not even considering an up 8k upgrade but the SHOCK value of saying "8k" on E3's stage, no matter how much more powerful the next xbox might be over PS5, that angle to promote it's power will be neutralized.

Like I said in the OP, "IF" MS had been the one to announce 8k on E3's stage the same group who are all ranting and bashing Mark Cermy for name dropping 8k would have went BALLISTIC hyping it.

Sony effectively took the wind out of 8k, ray-tracing, and SSD talking points that MS 100% expected to be the first one to speak on.

8 ROPS per 32 bit memory channel is a bottleneck and it would take major innovation to overcome this limitation e.g. 16 ROPS per per 32 bit memory channel design.

It's expected NAVI to catch up with 8 ROPS per 32 bit memory channel GDDR6 design.

The fastest 64 ROPS based GPU is RTX 2080 with six geometry-rasterization engines with 64 ROPS read-write units with 4MB L2cache tiled rendering and up to +1900Mhz clock speed. At 1900Mhz, 11.9 TFLOPS FP32 potential.

For comparison

GTX 1080 Ti FE has six geometry-rasterization engines with 88 ROPS read-write units with 3MB L2cache tiled rendering and up to 1800 Mhz clock speed, typical is 1700Mhz. 12.2 TFLOPS at 1700Mhz,

RTX 2070 has four geometry-rasterization engines with 64 ROPS read-write units with 4MB L2cache tiled rendering and up to +1900Mhz clock speed via over 256 bit bus GDDR6-14000

VII has four geometry-rasterization engines with 64 ROPS read-write units with 4MB L2cache tiled rendering and up to 1800Mhz clock speed. At 1800Mhz, 13.8 TFLOPS FP32 potential, typical clock speed is around 1750Mhz which is 13.4 TFLOPS.

Volta GV100 has six geometry-rasterization engines with 128 ROPS read-write units and up to ~1627 Mhz clock speed via quad stack HBM v2.

RTX 2080 Ti has six geometry-rasterization engines with 88 ROPS read-write units with 6MB L2 cache tiled rendering and up to +1900 Mhz clock speed over 352 bit bus GDDR6-14000. RTX 2080 Ti is a class above VII, RTX 2080 and RTX 2070.

PS; Volta and Turing GPUs has full async compute hardware.

For marketing purposes like you said and also to take the wind out of the sails for MS at E3. MS can't go on stage and announce anything higher than 8K and Sony knows it.

Even if the best we'll get out of PS5 is 8K upscaled which I believe, it's still a strong marketing point. They are now the first guys to announce an 8K console (whether it's real or not) and MS has to scramble to look for something else to market the next Xbox with otherwise they end up with a "me too" scenario. It's a genius marketing move that most people on SW aren't smart enough to grasp. People on SW are only looking at the numbers and not looking for the reason behind those numbers.

Vega 56 at ~1500Mhz (~11 TFLOPS) OC can run Forza Motorsport 7 at 8K 60 fps. Sony's Gran Turismo Sport is GCN optimized like Forza Motorsport 7.

NAVI with 56 CU (equivalent) at 1500 Mhz and 256bit GDDR6-14000 would be similar.

"NAVI 20" replaces RX Vega II

"NAVI 10" replaces RX-580/RX-590, with RTX 2060 to RTX 2070. NVIDIA is preparing RTX 2070 Ti against RX-680 NAVI.

@ronvalencia: You’re right, some games like GT and Forza that aren’t too demanding will probably hit 8K on the new consoles so technically MS and Sony would be right calling their machines 8K capable.

Larger VRAM and SSD enables artwork to improve.

Larger CPU improvements enables changes to game world's simulation models e.g. PC style Ashes of Singularity NPC count. Entry Xeon server/workstation level simulation models. Large CPU improvements are important to deliver "next generation" game play simulation models.

GPU is use to render CPU's view port.

There's a lack of games designed for 8 Core/16 threads ZEN 2 (Skylake-S class per CPU core)

There's a high probability HDMI 2.1 8K screens also comes with FreeSync, hence locked 60 hz is not required i.e. smooth frame rates from 40 to 60 hz.

32 inch FreeSync HDR10 4K works well with GTX 1080 Ti and RTX 2080 Ti.

Maybe, but that's irrelevant to the point I was making.

Someone who doesn't have a low IQ would figured out that before making a comment like yours.

All marketing is to trick people into thinking they need something that they could live without. Therefore, if you buy anything non-essential for life you must have a low IQ by your definition.

Stop trying so hard buddy, you are not special over anyone here if you're on a the same board called system wars coupled with the fact that you missed the point of the actual topic.

No, I already knew that. First to get the buzzword out, first to farm the morons

I'm not the one begging for all other systems to not exist or using the one I purchased as a pathetic attempt to farm attention based on it's "success"

Probably but i don't think sony will dare in this time in age to try to fool people into thinking the PS5 will be a true 8k machine,i didn't like that crap from MS i sure would not like it from them, sell your product as something better but not something unreachable.

Like every company, they'll use loose marketing terms in order to push their agenda. They have to sell a product, and that's completely understandable. The PS5 will be capable of 8K resolution, in some form or another.

Preeeeeeeeettty sure 8k won’t be for gaming purposes but for 8k video playback. There’s no way PS5 will be able to pump out 8k res even at minimal settings unless the console will cost $2000. However I agree with OP regarding Sony’s intention with being the first to the punch.

People really expecting 8k video games with next console? The hardware is not here yet for 8k, it is but neither console manufacturer can afford to put out an 8k console at affordable prices.

This vague 8k announcement is most likely hinting at support for 8k media/upscaling. Yaaay more checkerboarding!

Vega 56 at ~1500Mhz can run Forza Motosport 7 at 8K 60 hz. FreeSync removes the need for locked 60 hz i.e. smooth frame rates from 40 to 60 hz 4K.

Both are going to push 8K because they already have pushed "4k" consoles with the PRO/X. They have to give people a reason to upgrade, so they will just advertise 8K that no game will natively be.

I wished they aimed for 60fps in all games instead.

It really depends what new games will it offer is always the main selling point. Sony has a reputation for bringing good quality exclusive and while MS truly lack of must have AAA exclusive this gen, there's always room for improvements. Power isn't a factor who wins, it's always the exclusive games, I expect MS coming out strong with new IP games on Xbox Scarlet.

I just want to see MS do better next-gen to give Sony a run for their money. Competition is vital.

That's the thing, I don't think MS cares whether people buy their games on Xbox or PC. MS isn't measuring their success on console sales anymore like Sony is, it's all about subscriptions and software sales.

And out of curiosity, why would MS putting their games on PC as well be the reason to go with Sony next gen? What difference does it make if they release it on PC too? Seems like a strange reason to me (not that I give a sh*t, just curious why it would matter).

@hrt_rulz01: that would make sense, consoles are usually sold at a lose anyway, it would make more sense to focus on game sales and subscriptions.

So for why I think it might hurt sales is because there's people like me who don't care about the console war and only playing games. I've got a decent PC so for me I'm only going to buy a ps5 because of the exclusives, without Xbox exclusives I don't have a reason to purchase one. I can play them all on my PC. Sony ever stops making exclusives I wouldn't buy there console either.

Dude you can't be serious the only reason why MS isn't measuring console sales (i know they do they just don't say the numbers) is because their numbers are pretty bad,if the xbox was selling close to the PS4 i am sure the numbers would be known.

Using xbox live users when PC account and free 360 accounts still pad xbox live numbers is a joke.

They have like 40 million xbox one sold and more than 50 million xbox live account is very clear the huge padding xbox live gold penetration inside the xbox was basically just a tad under 50%.

Actually that is a stupid strategy, you haven't been paying attention to what MS has been doing and why they try so hard to push the whole true 4k crap on 2016 over the Pro checkerboard even to the point of claiming the Pro wasn't competition for the xbox one X but to the xbox one S as implying that checkerboard is the same as scaling in the xbox one S which is not.

People will not care for 4k 60FPS when they see 8k,even if they don't own a damn 8k TV,is the notion that the machine can and believe me it will spread like wild fire,so i am sure MS will say 8k as well and who knows if 16k just for fun.
