Dead Space was not scary. It just had mutilation and mutations and giant limbs with stupid pustules you shot at until the limb would mysteriously die

They gave away scary and now InSaNe InTeNsItY fills it's place. Tension still remains in the series, just in a different flavor.

RE almost feels like a TPS at this point. Not as extreme as say something like Max Payne but definitely took a step in the TPS direction. They just have zero scary factor to them anymore. Why? idk, maybe creator got bored and wanted to change the series. Who knows.

Awww. Well, fair enough. Also, did anyone else think the "asteroid storm" sections in Dead Space were pretty lame?

It's because you're older.  Scary media isn't scary as you get older.  I have to walk or drive down a bad neighborhood in order to feel fear.  Bogey man stories don't cut it anymore.

I think some ways to help build fear is that you need to be alone in your house/apartment in the middle of the night AND THEN play your scary game. That might cause a few fear perturbations because of mans natural fear of darkness & solitude.

Cause the series has become more action oriented than it used to be. The original RE's you always knew would have good cheap thrills. Now it feels like another run n gun game.

Its not scary because they took out the zombies, and added theese pointless village. And yes resident evil 5 looks great, but its just not the same without the zombies. They dont even have dogs anymore, its not resident evil anymore, they should have stuck with the same ''old'' story, would have been better, now dont get me wrong, im not saying i dont like resident evil 4/5 im just saying its pointless now that they have know zombies, isn't that the whole point too a resident evil game its suppose too be' scary. Now dont go flipping out on me because of my opinion, its just what i think.

I dont think it has to do with Resident Evil not being scary anymore. I just believe that the standard of whats "scary" has changed a great deal. RE has moved away from the "your a guy with a gun, your goal is over there....and zombies are in your way...BLAST THEM". I loved RE4, and I expect RE5 to be a welcome addition to the RE series. Co-op...nothing more suspensful that spliting from your partner into the unknown. Again, the standard for scary has changed.

Thank you. Wasn't scary. Silent Hill isn't scary either though. The Siren demo was pretty good though. That's the only game I've played in the last decade that kinda made me interested. And it still wasn't really "scary." It was just kinda "Hills Have Eyes"....more awesome than scary. Maybe I'm jaded though.

Resident Evil was always more of an action game than a horror game. It was just like fighting zombies or infected people and thats not what makes a game scary.

i stopped findingit scary after RE4. It was too funny gathering the village zombies and mass exploding them.

You're really missing the total paradigm shift that happened with 4.

They changed the genre..trust me, if they didn't do the "gaming revolution" they did in RE4 (at least for 3rd person shooters), then people wouldn't be that interested in the series, or at least not as much as we´re all waiting for RE5.

Sure, they don't scare you that much...but its still a cool game...and action sells. Just look at Gears for example, its cool because of its action and guns and the fact that you have to kill everybody..not because of its "scary" elements.

Come to think of it, I agree with a few people here. It was never very scary, played 1, 2, 3, 4. Mostly remember running around opening doors, then small segments of action.

Your older= less scary, and it wasn't that scary to begin with.

Exactly. For example, My son thinks that Gears 1 is the scariest game PERIOD. I was playing it while he was in the room and he was spooked. I can see whats scary about it, but its not as scary as Condemned or some of those type games. The horror games NOW are freaking scary.

The guy with the chainsaw and bag over his head got me good the first few times I encountered him. So for me RE4 is a good horror action game. If I get RE5 I'll only play at night when my wife and kids are asleep. thx:) norm
