First of all, it's telling that Nvidia has to release a 1070 ti because that is an admission by them that their own 1070 was crushed. The 1070 ti is almost exactly like a stock 1080 only with a little slower memory. It's amazing that Nvidia feels they need roughly a 1080 to compete against Vega 56 and now we find out it still gets it's @ss kicked! The Vega 56 is only $399 and 1070 ti is $460 or higher. Not only this, we all know the Vegas 56 will continue to get better with that red wine technology. Too easy!

It’s funny how it takes AMD over a year to compete with Nvidia. Thanks to AMDs incompetence in the GPU market, Nvidia doesn’t feel the need to launch Volta until mid 2018. And here we are celebrating Vega? Please...

Good luck finding a vega at msrp......

I've seen 1080s cheaper than a vega 56.

Also don't forget, vega uses 2x as much power and runs extremely hot.

The 1070 is still the best option if you can find it at msrp

The 1070ti is faster..... not one buys reference cards..... everyone buys factory overclocked and the 1070ti smashes Vega 56 when both are OC'd.

Might want to compare the power draw...lol..if it draws 2x as much power, I expect it to be 2x faster...otherwise its a fail product. Go back & try again AMD. :P

Being a year+ later, being a bigger chip, having higher power draw, vega 64 should crush 1080 with ease. Could grab a 1080 asus strix for 499 on black friday here, that's bit less than the reference 56 go for.

The 1070 ti is almost exactly like a stock 1080 only with a little slower memory.

Might be because they are binned 1080 chips that didn't make the cut

I've seen Vega 56 at $399(MSRP). Further, I've seen Vega 64 below MSRP at $469 about a little less than a month ago. It was hard not pulling the trigger but I already told myself I am waiting for Volta.

What you never see is the regular 1070 for $399. Right now it's around $435 and the 1070 ti you can find for $460. The problem with that is that I've seen the 1080 for around $460 as well.

In my opinion it's dumb to pay more than $350 for the 1070 and you won't find it at that price so don't buy it. It's ridiculous to pay over MSRP for Vega also.

Did you watch the DF video? I'm supposed to ignore them to listen to a fanboy instead?

Look, since you're such an expert, go ahead and make your own videos and then we'll see if they're better than the DF videos. At that point maybe we can take your word for it. As it stands, fanboy talk is irrelevant around here. Easily we will defer to the experts at DF. I'm sorry that you're delusional but it's true.

Vega was late yes and that was a disaster, you are right. But now that they are here and until Volta arrives, Vega rules with an iron fist. You have to be dumb to choose Nvidia over AMD right now. A year ago if you bought the 1070 or 1080, you were the smartest buyer. But that's a year ago, today it's Vega or wait for Volta. The Vega aftermarket cooler cards haven't even arrived yet. It's very late and a mining card so the prices are high but it's a lot better than Pascal. The truth hurts.

How is it better than Pascal exactly? Vega 64 has like 50 watts higher power draw than 1080ti while being a significantly weaker card? literally the only thing Vega has over Pascal gaming cards(because gp100 has the same feature) is double rate fp16, which you most likely wont see outside of AMD partnered games.

@Xplode_games: the Vega 56 is definitely not selling for 400. It was briefly CLOSE to 400 recently, but it's been literally 100 over MSRP for most of its life, and appears to be back at largely around 500 USD now. The pricing is a mess. If it was 400, I'd jump on it. But I'm not paying 100 over MSRP.

Yeah, currently on Newegg the Vega 56 is listed as $470 though it's out of stock. It's even higher on Amazon, and they're all the reference/blower style cards

While 1070ti cards with blower style coolers are $450, and $470 for MSI Gaming or EVGA SC cards

..... Vega 56 is on par with GTX 1070ti..... it does not annihilate it at 1080p,1440p or 4k..... And in fact on average Vega 56 runs 5% slower than stock GTX 1070ti...... Even with AMD backed API "Vulkan" and or game itself backed by AMD.The 56 only manages to matches it in DOOM or beat a stock 1070ti by one fps in Wolfenstein 2. so where does that word annihilate come in at? Then if we were to include Overclocking into the argument there would be no argument since ti would annihilate the 56 .

Now if we were to look at Performance per watt VEGA 56 falls nearly 30% behind GTX 1070ti..... The GTX 1070ti are only 1080 chips that didn't quite make the cut to becoming a full one. So instead of cutting multiple SM clusters to make a old 1070, they just took off the only bad SM cluster and slapped GDDR5 instead of GDDR5x.

VEGA 56/64 should have came out earlier in 2016, even with them having more compute power while using HBMv2 they still fall behind the curve over a year late. With low stock quantities, and higher prices than msrp.... Vega 56 is not a better deal than 1070ti atm and the near future.

You have to wait for a sale. The Vega 64 is ridiculously expensive at newegg right now and a few weeks ago it was $460 I believe. If both cards were at their MSRP, the Vega 56 is a lot better choice. Especially when the after market cooled cards hit.

I haven't really been price shopping Vega 56s because I wasn't interested in them, I was more interested in a Vega 64. However, I do remember seeing the Vega 56 on sale at slickdeals for $399. I thought that was cool but how can I buy that when I saw the Vega 64 for only $460?

RTG was busy with semi-custom work e.g. Sony's PS4 Pro for 2016, MS's X1X for 2017 and Intel KabyLake G for 2018. Raven Ridge APU is late.

ATI was late with X1900s (DX9c) and 2900XT (DX10) with Xbox 360 R&D.

ATI/RTG has placed business to business semi-custom work as higher priority.

The supply for Vega 64 would be dried up since there's 12 nm FinFET update for Vega 64.

Vega 56 can be overclock hence riving GTX 1080 i.e. Vega 56's HBM chips are the same as Vega 64.

I find it amazing that AMD was actually able even produce a gpu with a budget that small. Though I think it was a mistake on Raj the head of radeons end to cram so much tech and bet on hbm thus delaying vega. He tried to run that division as if they were kicking butt like the ati days which was a mistake imo, but the last I heard the ceo is taking over the gpu as well now and he left for intel.

Their cpu end is doing well they just need to turn their radeon side around.

Getting VEGA 56 to overclock to any real degree is a crap shoot and the user has to jump through hoops for overclocking. If its using reference cooler your headroom is small, having to undervolt to cut temps and power usage, or even running a modified bios before you can see any substantial gains.

Now with recent releases of non reference 56's this week OC'ing should be less of a hassle.... But getting your hands on one and at msrp is another story.

Well if this anything to go by on 56...... 35% increase in power usage got 5-15% gains averaging 8% gain overall with this test.
