I just purchased (new) an Xbox One S yesterday at a crazy deal (1tb, 30-day Gold + Gears of War 4 at € 150) that I couldn't pass up and I'm honestly postively surprised by this console, despite all my prejudice against Microsoft for their business strategies, namely lack of exclusives.

I also got Metal Gear Rising for free through free with Gold and subscribed for GamePass at €1. That, and the Play Anywhere feature is actually neat.

I've been playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider through GamePass and it runs very smoothly and even if the game is supposedly running at 900p, I really hardly notice that on my full-hd TV.

Big pro is also that the console runs super quiet.

It may not churn out as many exclusives as Nintendo and Sony, but I'm having a very positive impression about this system so far!

Meanwhile Sony is offering PS NOW also on Pc, which I initially was very excited about, at roughly €15 per month, to play games in streaming at 720p and not including exclusive titles such as God of War, Uncharted 4, Spiderman. I mean, how is this service, at this cost, going to attract a large audience and be successful?

Yes, the S (and especially the X) are great pieces of hardware... and Xbox has the best services. And once all the Xbox Game Studios family start churning out games on a regular basis, you'll have even more content too :)

It already is the most successful streaming service, so ask the people using it I guess.

PS Now has the most market share and makes the most money. They must be doing something right. Probably the fact they have games people want to play.

Instead of gamepass which has nothing worth playing except Forza Horizon 4.

Sorry bro, but you are in the minority. Gamepass sucks compared to PSNow.

@ajstyles: making the most market share and most profits is like saying that Blackberry and Windows Mobile are dominant. Especially since this is such a small market at the moment.

I'll wait until Microsoft, Google and Amazon are all in the field. Things would be much more competitive.

Then that's good news, I'd be happy if they added their big exclusives games on the service as well, though, I don't think that'd hurt console sales at all.

At that price I'm not insecure at all. I'm mainly a Pc gamer. I'm just wondering why the Xbox One gets all the hate, that's all. I've never been in favor of Microsoft, but merits where are due.

Hardcore gamers at the outset... they've been all negati e about Xbox for who knows how long now.....

Honestly what I've found is that the original xbox was when there was a divergence major serious divergence with the hardcore video game community etc....

Whereas before with new releases you would find a lot of peole playing and arting stuff, the xbox that copl completely disappeared despite it's formidable library and sales.

Xbox one is just the final evolution of that trend... and it's sad because the xbox has produced a lot of great titles and significantly advanced the video game genre... it's definitely brought in

a large number of fans that werent there before.

@aia89: You are aware Xbox One get's the hate from the reveal back in 2013 and still today right? Lack of exclusive is also a turn off for most gamers and how you personally view the Xbox One is all on you. If you like what MS offers, it's doing something for you in the long run. But if you have a PC, (hence you are a PC gamer) their really isn't a reason to owning an Xbox One and I used to say that if you are getting it for Halo, but now that MCC & Reach are both coming to PC, this isn't the case to go buy an Xbox One when you have PC.

Like I said, if you enjoy you're Xbox One purchase, more power to you :)

True that, as I said I was never in favor of Microsoft's business policy regarding exclusive titles, but at the same time I cannot dismiss the positive aspects of it, since to me GamePass (at that low price) and Play Anywhere favor both Microsoft and the gamers. I'm aware of Don Mattrick's wrong handling of the product, it seemed really anti core gamer at that time.

Again, I'd not have bought the console had it not been THAT cheap, for €150 I basically got a system where the controller alone costs over €50 euros to buy and that I can use for my Pc as well, plus a game for free that I can download for free on my Pc and continue my gaming session across the same ecosystem thanks to the Play Anywhere feature.

The console itself is (seems to be) an actual good piece of hardware, very quiet when compared to the jet-engine-loud 360, which I'm thinking I'd be using especially for the odd games that won't come to pc - or not planned to - such as Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled and Red Dead Redemption 2, or when I'm on vacation.

I'm not loyal to any brands in particular, I like Sony and Nintendo a lot as well, but Ps4 seems to be a bit overpriced to me at the moment, can't find it at less than €250 (slim 500 gb model)

The thing is not everyone wants to build a gaming Pc, those who play on console will most likely continue doing so. Microsoft bringing their games to Windows as well is definitely pro consumer. Xbox One S is a valid and cheap option, PS4 isn't as cheap but delivers in both first and third party titles, which is why - I think - most console gamers went for it.

To be fair, you're probably not a typical customer, though. You know your games inside out and likely have a vast collection of modern games on multiple system - like a lot of regulars on this board. Me, I only have one current gaming system and I don't buy very many new releases, so I can find enough games I'd want to play in this list to keep me happy for a long while.

It's by no means a horrible option for some folks.

Enjoy. The saddest part about this place is it's predicated on some platform "winning" instead of people just loving games and talking about them. But I don't know how to coax anyone into GD

@xantufrog: I'm sure you were around during the PS360 days. Anything around here that is saddening now is crumbs compared to then, and the competition was even much closer then. I'd say it got 'better' wrt what you're addressing here.

1st party games day one make it great value. Notice I didn't mention exclusive as it's a dead expression for the Xbox brand. But all in all gamepass is a great service which has come on Leaps and bounds.

I almost, almost mind you, feel very guilty for getting all that GamePass AwesomeSauce plus all the great GWG games every month for pennies on the dollar. :D

Thank you MS, truly for the gamers... Jazz. :P

Since almost all Xbox games are on PC you might as well play the games there plus you have a PC so you get to install the filthy degenerate mods.

It doesn't matter to me as long as the frametime is constant, which is a way more important fact than just fps's. On my Pc the same game goes from 75 fps to 40 for no reason and that fps variance makes a difference in how smooth the game runs, so I'd rather use RivaTuner to cap the framerate and improve the not always great frame pacing.

The Xbox S is sold at a very affordable price and is a great choice for the casual gamer who enjoys the occassional fifa, shooter and so on. I hated the xbox reveal in 2013, but I think that Microsoft has mostly made up for its mistakes. But even with the kinect and DRM removed, the Xbox S is still technically inferior to the PS4, which again probably doesn't matter much to the casual gamer. The Xbox S does need more exclusives to really compete with PS4. Which again doesn't matter much to the casual gamer who has plenty of multiplats to play instead.

I said it was and still is a bad system when it comes to exclusives.

@xantufrog: I'm sure you were around during the PS360 days. Anything around here that is saddening now is crumbs compared to then, and the competition was even much closer then. I'd say it got 'better' wrt what you're addressing here.

Those were good/crazy days of system wars. I do not get on here much anymore, but it was cut throat back then.

@i_p_daily:

So how are those "free to play" games going on the x1?

@Sevenizz:

Well to be frank, while MS got the lock down on racers with FH, I'll argue that the "go to" shooters this gen have been multiplats for the most part of it. Halo and Gears have lost some of their "touch" this gen.
