Could be a developer as a whole, a sub-project team, whatever. A particular team for a particular game, series of games...you get the picture. So, who's your #1 favorite dev or dev team? Could be past or present, or anywhere in between. Maybe they don't even exist anymore.

Or maybe you don't care. Fair enough.

Anyhoo, here's mine.

Not sure I have one on a laminated card somewhere or care to decide on it, but I have a admiration for underdogs who make great things yet still striving to achieve recognition, or those that just nearly get there in hopes they might one day knock it out of the park, or once great celebrated devs who fell from grace yet still are managing to hang on, in hopes they see a strong resurgence.

Of the modern developers Mimimi Games is one of the few creators of games buy on good faith without much in the way of knowledge.

Shadow Tactics and Desperados 3 brought much joy when largely getting sick of a lot of gaming.

Nintendo and Capcom are pretty much tied for tops these days for me. Also really like Platinum and SquareEnix.

As far as underdogs go, Team Silent definitely fit the bill, to say the least. Individually they were all outcasts that did not really fit in with the rest of the company due to eccentricities and such. Konami was basically going to fire them all, but instead stuck them in a room together, more or less, and told them to brainstorm to see what they came up with. What they came up with was Silent Hill 1-4.

Lots of great dev teams out there. Nintendo have been great for so long, but at one point my absolute favorite was blizzard, this was pre Activision buyout, those bastards ruined them. Naughty dog comes to mind, I've been playing their games since uncharted 1 back in 2008 and loved it. All their games have been on point except for tlou2. Bungie or now 343 do good work with halo. MS game studios put out absolute gems like flight simulator, I mean the game is even used for training by piloting students. Playground games make fantastic games too, though I'm not really a big racing fan. The team behind subnautica really impressed me too.

The Zelda team at Nintendo is must follow. Feel bad for folks who never played botw. @heil68:

:P

Also, Miyazaki is a genius on another level, so from software games are high priority.

I also love Housemarqe because they succeed at everything they make. Proven winners.

My all time favorite team was Bioware before the 2 doctors sold it to ea. The made three of my favorite ips ever in a row... Kotor, Jade empire and mass effect. Three new ip....three incredible games. They also had Drew Karphysyn writing for them... His work creating the mass effect universe should be celebrated by fans every moment they cuddle their garrus pillows...

Arkane games, even though I have my doubts about Deathloop and their new vampire game, they haven't made a bad game yet:

Playground are great interested to see what they can do with fable. Ninja theory are very talented and barely made a bad game outside of bleeding edge.

Insomniac comes to mind for sure. Ratchet and clank is my second favorite video game franchise behind only Zelda. They gave us the first good spiderman game in years back in 2018 has there had been a lot of ok/bad spiderman games. They are also fast. I never played Spyro un till I played the remake collection in I think 2019 but figured I would check it out being that it was a insomniac and how I fell about the spiderman games they have done and ratchet and while it is not at the same level has spiderman and ratchet its still a fun good game.

Right now? From Software and Capcom take the cake as far as modern AAA developers go today.
