Poll Who is the best Call of Duty developer? (87 votes)

Infinity Ward (Call of Duty, 2, 4: Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Ghosts) 37%
Treyarch (Big Red One, 3, World at War, Black Ops, Black Ops II) 57%
Sledgehammer (Advanced Warfare) 6%

With Call of Duty being a mainstay of gaming at this point, it's very easy to ignore it for when it does accomplish something, but I still think the studios behind the games need to be lauded for their consistency and for juat how fresh they manage to keep the games feeling year in, year out.

But who is your favorite Call of Duty developer?

I personally excluded Sledgehammer Games from my list, because while Advanced Warfare is great, it is a) not as good as Infinity Ward or Treyarch's best, and b) just one game- the studio has a long way to go to prove itself.

So, between Infinity Ward and Treyarch, it basically comes down to this: while Infinity Ward have Modern Warfare under their belt, that is... also all they have. The first two CoD games were great, nothing remarkable, and every Infinity Ward CoD game since Modern Warfare has been a shitshow (albeit MW2 was still fun in a Smash Bros. kind of way). In addition, Infinity Ward also made Ghosts, which is the single worst entry in the franchise.

As for Treyarch... they used to be really awful (they made Call of Duty 3, after all), but their consistency since then has been amazing- World at War was great, and probably the best WW2 era shooter we got, Black Ops is absolutely amazing, and probably the best game in the series (both, single player and multiplayer), Black Ops II deserves credit for having tried to make so many innovations in both the campaign and multiplayer... and of course, they introduced Zombies to the series, and the world is a better place for having had Call of Duty Zombies.

Every time Treyarch announces a new Call of Duty game, my interest in the series automatically rises. This year's Call of Duty is Treyarch. I anticipate it being one of the top ones.

All of them are crap now but Treyarch is less crap. They try something new in their games. Black Ops and World at war were great. I haven't touched COD after that but if they can bring back World at War 2 then I'll definitely play it.

Sledgehammer worked on MW3, so it's not like they don't have some sort of track record. Advanced Warfare easily stands among the best. It is the best playing Call of Duty to date. To say that AW isn't on the same level of quality as Black Ops 2 or Modern Warfare 2 is crazy talk.

Treyarch by far.

IW is merely a shadow of it's former self. They are lost cause.

Infinity Ward. CoD1 and CoD United Offensive on PC coupled with CoD2 and MW1. You can't beat them. They just need to stop listening to Activision and do what they want and they're golden.

Infinity Ward hit their peak on Modern Warfare 2.

After that and the people responsible of putting Infinity Ward at that peak leaving and doing that lawsuit with Activision they just crumbled and aren't worth anything anymore.

Treyarch, on the other hand went from a "lame developer" to whatever Infinity Ward was back in Modern Warfare days.

IW is really two different developers. There's the IW before and after the split. Pre split IW is easily the best cod developer. Right now it's sledgehammer

I respect 3arch for trying to make COD their own and not just following in IW's footsteps.

They seriously lack in presentation, though.

Their CODs feel very goofy and tasteless.

Not gonna lie, I'm curious to see what they'll achieve with 3 years dev cycle.

Grey Matter Interactive. United Offensive, while being an expansion pack, was as long as a main game and was the best in the series, in my opinion. Their successor, Treyarch, is okay. But CoD 3 sucked so bad I can never forgive them.

I reckon MW1 and before it was IW, now its Treyarch by a significant margin. They have all been gradually going downhill in recent years though. Except for IW they fell pretty steeply between MW2/3

Infinity Ward before it was gutted. The original Call of Duty, United Offense and Call of Duty 4 are better than anything made by the gutted shell of Inifnity Ward, and its two tribute bands (Treyarch and Sledgehammer)

Right now Sledgehammer is probably the best CoD dev. Treyarch went to crap with Black Ops 2 and whoever developed Ghosts needs to not be in video games.

i would go with iw without question. even new iw is great imo, i don't get the hate. clearly not as talented as old iw but mw3 and ghosts were great efforts.

teryarch is awesome as well but they're games lack refinement on the technical side. black ops for example is one of the better cods out there yet runs and looks like dog shit. i don't think your giving tre enough credit with cod3 either, that game had some of the best mp in the series.

honestly each studio has only produced one turd and thats been mw2 and black ops 2. mw2 while amazingly fun was woefully unbalanced and horribly designed when it comes to mp. to many broken perks and to much shit flying in the air. still loved this game.

black ops 2 however was a disaster on so many levels i feel i'm unable to list everything here. **** that game. even the sp was total shit regardless of the welcome freedom you were given.

Haven't got around to Advanced warfare yet.

Treyarch are infinitely worse than IW. WaW was garbage, so much so I stayed clear of Black ops.

IW slipped up with Ghosts, but MW1 and 2 were brilliant, and even 3 wasn't that bad.

Treyarch. I mostly just say them though because of their ability to create more ports than IW when they were at their peak. Hell, they created COD3 in 8 months and I realize it was a shit game compared to the others but at the same time what they did come up was quite impressive given the crunch time, and the number of ports they had, including a working PS3 port at launch when many developers were still scratching their head about how to make PS3 games for months and years after the PS3 released. Anyhow, they only made one good COD game I actually liked, that being World At War, but from Blops/MW3 onward the series was dead to me.

As far as the games themselves go, IW made the better games. I mean they basically made the best games in the series, COD, COD2, COD4: MW, COD:MW2, and then went to shit after West and Zempella left and we got that piece of shit MW3.

Old Infinity Ward.

They made MOH:AA, COD 1 and COD2. Three of the best WW2 shooters I've ever played.

Also really liked United Offensive and COD 5.

The OG Infinity Ward. I don't think its fair to put all those games next to their name since their staff drastically changed along the timeline of those games.

The one that made Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3.

Activision need to freaking Remaster both of these games for current gen like RIGHT NOW! would pay fulll price for possibly the best Call of Duty games.

Treyarch, hands down. Infinity Ward today is not the same that made Call of Duty 4, which was brilliant for its time. I remember when Treyarch wasn't very well liked, World at War was decent but didn't have near the amount of people lining up for it that Call of Duty 4 or MW2 had. Then all of a sudden, Black Ops came out, and midnight release was packed. I have a feeling they are working on a Reboot...Call of Duty 5 possibly :)

In order:

1. Treyarch - Superb storytelling and gameplay with dark turns and memorable scenery.

2. Infinity Ward - Had to tell the first Modern Warfare is a masterpiece but sometimes lack in campaign and multiplayer. Still enjoy the mw series and Ghosts.

3. Sledgehammer Games - Fast pace campaign and multiplayer. Storytelling and dialogue is not that good but it still enjoyable.
