Wondering who the first loser will be this year when Elden Ring sweeps a massive swath of goty awards this December. Is there another game that will stand head and shoulders beneath the masterpiece of 2022, but still get love on goty lists?
Still too early to go into these things lol. But to take this seriously, my vote still stands that God of War: Ragnarok could steal the thunder out of Elden Ring if the execution goes well of course. My money's on God of War: Ragnarok.
ER to me was good and all but it's not my GOTY but rather gonna be in my top 10 of 2022.
GOW is the obvious answer if it comes out this year that is, which I become more and more certain it won’t! Hoping I am wrong though, PlayStation desperately needs a good exclusive at this point!
I'm going with God of War: Ragnarok if it releases this year. May even still win GOTY despite Elden Ring.
Elden Ring is great, but not necessarily GOTY. Red Dead Redemption 2 was heavily favored in 2018, but God of War took the gold 😎
Elden Ring will for sure will win almost all of the GOTYs this year.
As for second place, that depends. If Starfield is delayed to 2023, GOW:R will be the second best game by far.
But if Starfield actually does come out in 2022, then GOW:R will be the second best game by far.
Halo: Infinite, should be number 1 by a light-year or three, others are just a big piece of number 2. lol :P
@djoffer123: Why would they? Already have HFW. That's 1 more quality exclusive than on Xbox and Switch.
@SecretPolice: Halo Infinite came out in 2021, didn't win shit.
Even though 2021 was the worst year in gaming since 2012, with almost no quality games, Halo Infinite was still not even top 5. (Deathloop, It Takes Two, RE8, FH5, etc.)
Imagine trying to compete with GOTD/GOTC contenders Elden Ring and GOW:R when you barely make top 10 in a terrible year :p
@Mozelleple112: wow, that went awfully quick to the Xbox, no one mentioned that piece of plastic someone got really triggered ehh?.. and while it might be more than the competition ( don’t think It’s true for switch tbh) I hope that one AAA pr year isn’t the goal here?
Elden ring and Horizon Forbidden west are the best games I played this year. Ghost wire is the only other 2022 game I played and that game is really the definition of "Mid". Elden Ring so far will take it, but IF GoW:R comes out..... well, we will see.
@djoffer123: Not triggered, and I am mentioning them because Sony is literally ahead of the pack, and have an absolute gigaton of a GOTD-contending exclusive coming up, while the other two have nothing left for 2022.
Why would you single out the winning company as "desperately" needing something?
@davillain: 'my vote still stands that God of War: Ragnarok could steal the thunder out of Elden Ring if the execution goes well of course. '
I can almost guarantee after Sony seeing MS delay both Starfield and Redfall that they're most likely planning to delay GOW as well into next year. We haven't seen anything of the game and it's supposed to release later this year.
@theam0g: The last God of War: Ragnarok trailer was way more than enough to show everything and I don't want Sony/Santa Monica show anymore without spoiling anything else. We're still in May and Sony does its own showing so we got time for Sony to shine on God of War Ragnarok...I hope😟
2022 has a lot of good games both released and announced,
Moss Book 2, Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe, Bayonetta 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Gran Turismo 7, Sol Cresta, Sifu, River City Girls 2, TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Rogue Legacy 2
But for now I think the best 2nd place contender is Horizon tho obviously I gotta see what God of War will be like. Between the two on PS4 I leaned more towards Horizon but I want to be fair to GoW:R.
Unless GOW2 is delayed (which i don't think that it will be), its a guaranteed 2nd place, and will most certainly win the goty award at some places. Elden Ring is untouchable, tho.
I felt Elden Ring was to difficult for my gaming skills, but with all the praise ER got it, it probably has the best chance for the game of the year. GoW:R seems to be really promising, but it’s not released yet, still might flop, highly unlikely but it’s a possibility? Don’t rule it out just yet? Does ER have any other competitor for game of the year?
Halo infinite should win this year, but it was released end of 2021 just out of the goty window sadly. Either way, I think it should be considered a 2022 game. If so, I'll give it to halo.
@brimmul777: actually most people don't even like the game, 90% of players dropped it in less than 3 months. It's just a vocal minority sadly, and alot of them are crazy. If Belden ring doesn't get the award, I feel sorry for the GS staff here, IGN, etc, who will have to put up with threats from the crazies.

@blaznwiipspman1: Mediocre games don't win GOTYs though.
There's Elden Ring
Then GOW:R
.
..
.
.
.
Then everything else.
@Mozelleple112: you're right, those are mediocre games right there, and gow ragnarok even releasing this year is a question mark at best. Halo deserves to win.
@x_hedon: Elden Ring is the only reason GOW:R does not have a chance of winning GOTY.
Imagine being as unintelligent as you are, who hasn't even played GOWR and thinks it will be mediocre. its the direct sequel to one of the top 5 best games of the last generation. It could win every single GOTY in any year that does not have Elden Ring or The Last of Us 3.

Imagine being as unintelligent as you are, who hasn't even played GOWR and thinks it will be better than mediocre. I know what the game is. I own and played and enjoyed GOW 2018. It's not GOTY material through I afraid. You can think it is, and I can think it's not. Why does that trigger you?
@x_hedon: Your stupidity shines once again. God of War is literally game of the year 2018, ahead of Red Dead Redemption II. I'm making an assumption based on that very fact. Your tasteless opinion is completely irrelevant to what is fact.

Nah. Sequel will be reviewed well but it wont hit like the first. Elden will beat it
@Mozelleple112: bro, Belden ring is trash, and gow ragnapoop will stink it up, or get delayed. Both suck compared to halo. You're lucky halo is technically 2021. Honestly, MS should have delayed the game by 2 months to fit it into 2022.

Oh come on. I gotta have faith God of War: Ragnarok will beat the hell out of ER🙏

Look the first one was amazing. It was new and refreshing after GoW Ascension. That newness is gone though. Its like Halo 2. It was a stellar game but the newness was gone and it garnered no real GOTY hype after the first ones success.
Elden Ring, like the superior imo, Sekiro will run away with it.

Poor cow resorts to insults when the lose a debate. Calm. It’s plastic. And I’m buying it. It’s not GOTY though. 👍
I don't think right now anybody would be bummed if Elden Ring swept the 2022 awards except people that already don't like the game, but can't imagine there's a game right now people think deserves that crown, none that has release yet anyways. But there's still the better part of a year left, 7 months, so who knows.
