Some characters in games get thrown in perilous situations yet they always to get out with the best possible outcomes while others just get the lower end of the stick.

Which characters have the most luck on their sides? Which characters have the least amount of luck on their sides?

Luckiest:

Bayonetta. Bayonetta might just have luck as a superpower because she often gets thrown into the most wack situations but things always work in her favor, and many times stylishly so. The consequence of her luck powers seems to have pit many forces against her so she never seems to get a break. But it's Bayonetta so that's okay.

Unluckiest:

Isaac Clarke of Dead Space. From the very beginning of the series, Isaac Clarke was just an average worker on a space station thrown into horrible circumstances that forced him to use his utilities as a weapon for survival. Not just that but key relationships in his life end up getting killed and as the series progressed Isaac's psychological problems intensify to unbearable degrees. Poor Isaac didn't age too well through the series.

So tell me, what are characters through video games - both main and side characters alike - that manage to have luck on their sides at all costs and then characters that never catch a break?

I'd probably say Peach, but after 30 years, I'm inclined to say she just likes it.

Haha I was gonna include Nathan Drake in my post too but I decided to just list one for both category so someone else can Nathan Drake. But yeah. Ironically the thing a globetrotter like Drake needs the most is a vacation. He's always getting himself into perilous situations but he always gets out of them with at times pin-needle precision. He's our Indiana Jones in video games, and Indy himself gets away with it all.

On that note with Naughty Dog games, the unluckiest contrast would be Joel and Ellie from The Last of Us. I mean, shit, what can I say? From the very beginning of the game Joel's daughter gets murdered right before his very eyes. Joel and Ellie both almost get killed through their journey. Joel falls off a ledge and severed and out of commission for months. Life really sucks for Joel, and poor Ellie - Joel lies right to her face at the end. There definitely was not much hope for either of these characters. Naughty Dog already stated the sequel will have a lot of hatred under Ellie's brow, so we know her character won't be experiencing an upward spiral any time soon.

Yea Nathan Drake is quite a scoundrel and gets himself into crap, but luck serves him right every time despite so. Odds will always be stacked his way.

Unlucky character: Wheatley from Portal 2. He may have had his power-trip, but to this day he is still drifting off somewhere in space and since Valve can't count to 3, chances are he will be gone forever.

Solid Snake, despite being able to complete his missions, got dealt a pretty bad hand throughout the course of his games.

Excellent choice. Yeah Snake literally deteriorates through the course of his run. He was not in the greatest shape at all in MGS4, racing against his own accelerated aging process was intense in his own character yet admirable how far he was willing to push himself towards the end.

I can't deny all the John Marston's in these choices. Even though I was not a fan of Red Dead Redemption, his character was interesting and based on tragedy through-and-through. I have not played Red Dead 2 so I don't know about Arthur Morgan's ark, but I believe it because it would be thematically balanced over the first game.

Luckiest? Pilotwings snes and n64 characters. It makes me laugh how you can crash a plane, it catches fire, and then the instructor says you didnt pass.

Nathan Drake is definitely one of the luckiest. There is a fucking mechanic in the game where he constantly faces imminent peril because 1 of every 3 hand-holds he moves to while climbing gives way under his weight... but he never slips and falls to his death.
